RELOCATING VENDORS AND HAWKERS AT DARGAH CHOWK
LOCATION- Dargah Chowk, ● MARKET TIMING-7.30AM-10.30PM
● RUSH DAYS ARE MONDAY AND MORNING
C.Sambhajinagar
● CONTEXT OF MARKET-
● 40-60 STALLS, on the roads coming towards Dargah
Chowk sit daily on the footpaths.
● 300-400 STALLS, approximately gathers for the weekly
market on monday at Dargah Chowk.
● TYPES OF VENDORS-

Vegetable Market Flower Market Meat Mechanic Shops

● PROBLEM OF THE MARKET-

ROAD ENCROACHMENT & PARKING ISSUES. CLEANLINESS ISSUE.

● CURRENT TRAFFIC SITUATION-

DAILY MARKET NEAR CIIGMA HOSPITAL
(MORNING: 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM)

WEEKLY MARKET EVERY MONDAY

NEAR D-MART

● When we surveyed the area, we

found out that currently there are
two vegetable and fruit markets
that take place near Dargah
chowk.
● As well as some vendors even
accommodate the footpaths on
the roads coming towards
Dargah, thus causes obstruction
in pedestrian movement.
● In addition to these markets
there is a Chaupati itself on
Dargah chowk.

● When we interviewed some of these hawkers

the gave the following reasons for occupying
the roadside space:

1. We don’t want to shift to the stalls set up by

the AMC, as they are far from where we do
business now.
2. Having roadside shops gives us the benefit of
selling the items on display.
3. The stalls built by AMC are much smaller than
what we have now.
4. Our sales are bound to hit severely, if we
move there. Our regular customers will not
take the trouble of walking to the market to buy
from us.

● So based on this we concluded to provide the

hawkers zone i.e. to be demarcated should be
near the main roads so as the hawkers would
move there instead of again setting up their
stalls and occupying the roadside space.
● There are not only vegetable and fruit vendors at dargah
chowk but seeing them more vendors have joined them on
the roadside stalls such as -

1. Mechanical Shops
2. Locksmith Stalls
3. Flower Vendors
4. Sewing Stalls

● So when we develop a hawkers zone we will have to

relocate all this businesses as well and give all the different
occupations an allotted space so that their business ain’t
affected as well as they stay in the allotted zone to them by
the AMC.
● Considering these issues as well as the traffic we have to
relocate them near main road while considering the bylaws
for hawker zone. 4
PROPOSED HAWKERS ZONE

● The site we have considered is the Shri Hari Pavilion adjacent to D-Mart. (Area = 10,911 SQ.M. (2.7 Acres))
● We need to make a mandatory schedule for the simultaneous & undisturbed operation of both the activities of market &
bus terminal timing accordingly. So we can propose the timing as -
Vendor timing - 7:00am to 8:00pm
Bus Terminal timing - 8:00 pm to 7:00 am
● We can propose a market including all the trades over there which can become a community space with food vendors,
food stalls, and other trading activities that takes place adjoining Dargah Chowk and the area. While providing better
amenities and marketplace for the public.
● We can create a marketplace similar to the Mandai, Pune.
● We can also create barriers such as sitting place on footpath so as the hawkers won’t continue sitting on the footpath.
● Monday Bazaar Policy:
Reason – Both the vendors of Dargah & Monday bazaar has same occupied space on proposed site.
Solution – We can give holiday to daily vendors on Monday or to provide a specific allotted space in site for these people
without disturbance of others.

VENDORS SPACE UNUSED loss as their stalls are inside the market causing
no customer to come inside. Making their
business in loss.
● REASON FOR PROBLEM OF THE MARKET-

ACCESS TO THE SITE

1. After having the interview of the vendors and visitors

we got to the conclusion that what is the problem.
2. The main issue of the market is IT DOESN'T HAVE A
PROPER ACCESS .
3. It only has a proper access from the service road side
leading to the pathway from customer only for that
part.
4. Leading to vendors shifting from backside of market
to the main service road.

THE ACCESS OBSERVED IN THE MARKET CURRENTLY

RESIDENTIAL ZONE CIRCULATION THROUGH SITE

● Also the entry from Mukundwadi road side is difficult

due to the presence of residential property on that
side leading to no direct access to the site from that
side
