Tripura Medical College & Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Teaching Hospital is an autonomous


Medical College and Hospital run fully by Society for Tripura Medical College & Dr. BRAM
Teaching Hospital under Society Registration Act, 1860. It is affiliated under Tripura
University, a Central University and is a tertiary care centre of Tripura as well as the
neighbouring North-eastern states and Bangladesh. TMC & Dr. BRAM Teaching hospital is
committed to provide comprehensive high quality services & medical care (preventive,
curative, promotional, diagnostic & therapeutic) to every citizen without discrimination.

General Information
The hospital is situated at Hapania, Agartala, Tripura. It is located at about 18 km
away from Agartala Airport and 7 km away from Agartala city. The area is bordered by
neighbouring country Bangladesh, 1.5 km away from it. The ONGC and Tripura Jute Mill are
situated near this village. The village is with full of greenery having its natural flora and
fauna. The residents here are with low socio-economic status and avail the health care
facilities from this college and Hospital.

All the staffs have their uniform along with their identity card. White apron for
doctors along with their identity cards are mandatory during duty hours. The nurses, GDA,
Security, SCA have their respective dress code with identity cards for easy identifications.

Reception:
Reception is at the entrance of the main hospital building in the Out Patient
Department (OPD) Complex with proper sitting arrangement for the patient and relatives to
wait. The registration counter is opened for computerised registration from 8:00 AM to 1:00
PM from Monday to Saturday for normal scheduled OPDs and for special OPD till 4:00 PM.
No Registration Charges are taken for normal OPDs. Charges for the Special and Super
Speciality OPDs have to be submitted in Cash Counter. Registration counters give the
information as well as the registration card.
There are following counters for registration and enquiry:
 New patient registration counter for providing ticket to attend respective OPD
 Old (previously registered) patient Re-Registration Counter for attending
same OPD for follow up and providing new ticket on same registration
number for attending different OPD
 Enquiry Counter to provide information regarding the special OPD, Super
Speciality OPD, special Surgical Procedures as well as for registration.
 One Emergency Registration Counter for 24 hours service for weekdays as
well as holidays.

Out Patient Department (OPD):


Out Patient Department provides primary as well as comprehensive health care for
patients who come for diagnosis, treatment or follow-up care. All the OPDs are in ground
floor, numbered department wise. There are 11 no of Departmental OPDs, rendering services
in all week days except holidays from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Well equipped full flagged
Physiotherapy Department, Audiometry Division are running well from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM
under The Orthopaedics Department and ENT Department for out patients as well as in
patients. OPD Room number with sign board is placed in front of respective OPDs for easy
identification.
The following services are provided by OPDs are:
 Early diagnosis and timely treatment for control of disease
 Investigates and screen cases to confirm whether or not hospitalization is required
 Facilitate screening and investigations for admission to hospital
 Provide effective treatment on ambulatory basis
 Provide follow-up care to discharged patients and their rehabilitation
 Provide a facility for training of medical, para-medical and nursing students
 Control and surveillance of communicable diseases to prevent an out-break of
epidemic
 Provides services for community through various community based clinics
For easy way finding, sign board are present in OPD complex. Toilet complex for the patients
and by standby are present in OPD complex. New OPD Block, a four-story building is under
construction.

Emergency or Casualty Department:


Twenty bedded (20) Emergency department provides urgent and quality care to the
patients on urgent basis to prevent loss of life or for the restoration of healthy life. 24 hours
and round the clock on duty doctors (casualty medical officer and the residents of different
departments), nurses, GDA and SCA are available for attending the patient promptly.
The following services provided by Emergency or Casualty Department are:
 Immediate and correct life saving treatment at all times and for all situations
 Emergency Operation Theatre (major and minor) is well maintained and kept open for
24 hours round the clock for emergency minor operation. Major emergency surgical
procedures also done in major Operation theatre on urgent basis.
 Liaison with courts and police for Medico-legal cases
 Provision for 24 hours Ambulance Service, well equipped with wheel chairs,
stretcher, trolley for patients transport to emergency ward
 Able to provide effective management during disaster situation
 Can act as information and communication centre if any disaster occurs
 Provides education to the medical, para-medical and nursing students

Day care services:


Day care services provide the diagnostic and therapeutic management and treatment
for the patients who are not necessarily need for hospital stay. The services are provided
through:
 Surgical Minor OT
 Emergency Minor OT
 ENT and Eye OPD & OT
 MTP (under MTP Act, 1971)
 Ambulatory Medical procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes are
provided in Medicine Ward, Emergency Ward, Chest Medicine ward
 Ultrasound, CT-Scan and 2D-Echo Guided procedures are done in Ultrasound,
CT-Scan and Echocardiography room.

In Patient Department (IPD):


The hospital is 558 bedded hospital which includes general wards including various
intensive care units. The inpatient departments of the hospital includes nursing station, the
beds it serves, storage or anteroom for keep storage of medicine, equipments etc.

 General Ward beds - 510


 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds – 48
 Beds in different wards: General Medicine – 120, General Surgery – 120, Obstetrics
& Gynaecology – 60, Orthopaedics – 60, Paediatrics – 60, ENT – 30, Eye – 20, Chest
Medicine – 20, Dermatology – 10, Psychiatry – 10.
 They are sub divided into male and female wards
 All in-patients receive treatment by team of Resident Doctors and Nurses, available
round the clock, under the supervision and guidance of Faculty Members
 Specialists and consultants visit all the patients three times a day
 State-of-art diagnostic and therapeutic facilities are provided
 A discharge Certificate, written with proper instruction, medication and management
during admission is provided to the patients to be discharged
 Aseptic and Septic Labour Room (SLR)
 Immediate Anti Retro Viral treatment for the accidental exposure to the staff is
provided from Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department
 Wards are Well ventilated and with proper sanitation
 Waste disposal is done as per the established Biomedical Waste Management and
Handling Rules rules and utmost care is taken to keep the premises neat and clean
inside the ward as well as outside the ward.
 Well equipped with wheel chairs, stretcher, trolley for patients transport to the ward
 Free food (breakfast, lunch and dinner) is served in the wards three times a day
 Two working lifts/Stairs/Ramp are present for the staffs as well as for the patients
transport
 Every inpatient is provided with attendant pass for general ward and for ICU patient
for needful.
 Visitor's timings in General Wards are from 6:00 AM to 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM to
6:00 PM and for ICUs from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Operation theatre:
The operation theatre had been designed to ensure sterility. All the routine Operation as well
as the speciality operation is conducted with improved aseptic and antiseptic measures, with
sophisticated equipments utilized by the surgeons.
 There are 10 numbers of Operation Theatres which includes Surgery (02),
Orthopaedics (02), Obstetrics & Gynaecology (02), Otorhinolaryngology (ENT- 01)
and Ophthalmology (Eye - 01), Casualty (Major OT – 1, Minor OT – 1)
 Operation Theatre complexes are well maintained, situated at Ground Floor(Casualty
OT), First floor (Surgery, OBG, ENT, Eye) and Second floors (Orthopaedics)
 There are patients waiting rooms, and recovery room
 Optimum utilization of OT staffs including Nurses, technicians and attendants makes
the working environment favourable
 Other medical professionals are called for help in times of need.
 Essential pharmaceutical storage, instruments and other equipments are well
maintained by the in-charge OT nurse and staffs
 Safer anaesthetic techniques are used during surgical procedures by the anaesthetics
 Medical gases are available during the procedures. Storage of the gases are reserved
as gas cylinder for at least one extra day use
 Facilities for laboratory investigations, blood from Blood Bank in times of need are
provided during operation
 Fire safety measures are well maintained in OT
 Waste disposal of the OT is well maintained by the cleaning staffs

Intensive Care Unit:

Intensive care unit provides the services to the critically ill patients who require
invasive life support.

 There are six (06) ICCU with air conditioned facility


 Medical ICU (06 beds), Neonatal ICU (06 beds), Paediatric ICU (02 beds), Surgical
ICU (06 beds), Burn ICU (02 beds)
 28 bedded, ICU is specially equipped place for monitoring and treatment
 High levels of medical and nursing care are provided

Blood Bank:
A full-fledged licensed blood bank is running round the clock in the hospital premises
to cater the patients need. Services rendered by blood bank are:
 Blood of all the Groups are available in the Blood Bank
 Emergency grouping and cross matching of blood sample is done before transfusion
 Blood donation for the patient by the patient party
 The blood bank is with component separation facilities for Fresh Frozen Plasma
(FFP), Packed Red Blood Cell (PRBC), Platelet Concentrate, and Cryoprecipitate.
 Transfusion Transmitted Infection (TTI) testing done for HIV, HBV, HCV, RPR,
Malaria are done for the blood unit before preserving the blood in the bank
 Voluntary Blood Donation Camp used to organised periodically to meet the shortfall
between the demand and supply

Investigative Procedures Provided By TMC & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital:


I. Laboratory Services:

Laboratory services are provided by the department concerned from 9:00 AM to


4:00 PM along with modernized, well equipped 24 hours Central Laboratory
Services where the on duty doctors from all different departments are available
round the clock along with the well trained technicians and attendants.
 Routine Investigation - Week Days (Monday-Saturday) from 9:00am-
4:00pm
 Emergency Laboratory - 24 hours, all days
 Collection Timing: -
- Week Days (Monday-Saturday) from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM for OPD,
IPD patients
- For Emergency Patients: 24 hours sample collection for routine and
essential investigations
 Reports are made available within the shortest possible time through
computerised hospital information system or by manually
 Information for the charges for various tests can be obtained from cash counter
and billing section

II. Electrocardiogram (ECG):


 ECG is taken for the OPD, IPD and Emergency Patients round the clock in
times of need
III. Arterial Blood Gas Analysis: done inside the Intensive coronary Care Unit.
IV. Medical Imaging Services:
1. Radiodiagnosis Department Provides Diagnostic Investigations by:
 X- Ray (Normal and Digital X-Rays), Ultrasonography with Doppler
Study, Computerised Tomography (Non-contrast and Contrast CT-Scan)
 Interventional radiographic procedure by Ultrasound and CT- Scan guided
procedures
 Ambulatory X-Ray and Ultrasound for non-ambulatory patient

2. General Medicine Department Provides Diagnostic Investigations by:


 2-D Echocardiography for diagnosis and interventional procedures
 Holter Monitoring (24 hours, 48 hours, 72 hours)
 Treadmill Test (TMT)

Other Facilities provided by TMC & Dr. BRAM Teaching Hospital:

I. Bill Section: 24 hours billing for the investigations, patient admission and
discharge are run by the hospital in ground floor opposite to the Reception.
II. Medicine Counter: The hospital runs Generic Medicine Counter in Ground floor
opposite to Bill Section from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
V. Ambulance: 24 hours ambulance service is provided by the hospital. Ambulance
is running under the Emergency Department.
VI. Oxygen Manifold Room:
 Provides 24 hours oxygen supply
 Other are Nitrous Oxide and Vacuum Suction
VII. Medical Record Section (MRD):
 MRD is well organised for keeping all the hospital records
 Birth and Death Registrations are done
 Any information helpful for previously treated patient can be obtained
 Faculties and students can use for research purposes
VIII. Biomedical Department:
Biomedical Department is running round the clock for prompt and quick
management of the equipments used in the hospital
IX. Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) and Laundry Services:
 Adequately provides sterilised instruments, equipments and materials to
various wards
 Regular every day collection, cleaning of linen and providing it to the
respective area
X. Electricity services:
 24 hours electricity services with back-up services are provided
XI. Security Services:
 Security services are all over in hospital premises for 24 hours round the
clock for security and to help the patient

Board of this College & Hospital
