Objective:

The objective of the document is to explain the update mode available in SAP BW 7.0 to update
Master data while loading Transaction Data/Master data attributes.

Description:

There is an option in the SAP BW system to load Master data automatically while loading
Transaction Data/Master data attributes.

First we will look into the option available to automatically update the Master data while loading
the transaction data.

While loading the Transaction data using DTP, we have 2 update types available in the update tab
of the DTP definition (As shown in Figure: 1).

1. 1. Further Processing Without Master Data

If this option is selected, while updating the transaction data the presence of the corresponding
master data will not be checked in the master data table and the load request will not fail in the
absence of the corresponding master data in the master data table and also the value present in
the transaction data will be added in the Master data table.

If the rule type is selected as “Read Master Data” in the relevant transformation, the Initial
values are updated in the transaction data and the updated will not terminate.
Dependencies with DataStore Objects:
Only if the SID generation option is enabled in the DSO, the system generates any missing SID
values during activation.

2. No Further Processing Without Master Data

If this option is selected, while updating the transaction data the presence of the corresponding
master data will be checked in the master data table and if the corresponding master data is not
present the update will fail.

Dependencies:

Dependencies in the Transformation:

If the rule type is selected as “Read Master Data” in the relevant transformation, the records
that do not have value are skipped. If the attributes without values are located in the key field of
the InfoProvider, they cannot be loaded subsequently. In this case, you have to delete the
request and load it again.
Dependencies with DataStore Objects:
In DataStore maintenance, if you do not set the SIDs Generation upon Activation indicator, the
No Update without Master Data indicator in the DTP has no effect.

If the SID generation option is enabled in the DSO, the activation process of the DSO will fail
during SID generation step.

Now we will look into the option available to automatically update the Master data attributes
while loading the Master data.

While creating DTP by having Master Data objects as target, the option “Type of Data Update to
Data Targets” will not be available (Refer Figure: 2).

To achieve the same in the Master Data load, Goto transaction SPRO-->SAP Reference IMG-->SAP
NetWeaver-->Business Intelligence--> General BI Settings-->Update Mode for Master Data.

There are 2 different types of Posting modes available as shown in the Figure: 4.

1. Create Master Data if Not Available

2. Check Master Data

1. Create Master Data if Not Available

In this update type, the attribute which is not present is checked and the corresponding entries
are created, if they are not present.
2. Check Master Data
In this update type, the data records are entered only if the corresponding master data is
present in the system.
