HBC 2110: INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS STATISTICS (45 LECTURES HOURS)

Prerequisite – 2103: Mathematics for Business

Course Purpose
Business Statistics Course is intended to be an introductory course in the discipline of statistics. Business Statistics
will mainly deal with fundamental statistics to enable the students to appreciate the use of statistics in social science
subject in general and data analysis in particular

Course Objectives
At the end of the course the students should be able to:

1. Appreciate statistical methods of data processing and analysis.


2. Crystallize the role of statistics in business analysis.

Course Description
Introduction to statistics. Descriptive, inference, deductive and inductive statistics. Statistical measures; the
arithmetic mean, median, mode, standard deviation, skewness, quartiles frequency distributions. Index
numbers; relative, composite, published. Basic probability theory events; compound events; conditional and
joint probability. Hypothesis testing; Z-Test, t-Test Chi-Square-Test, F-Test. Simple regression analysis;
Analysis of variance, Time series analysis.

3. Tutorials

These will include: Tablet, Smart board, LCD projector & Computers, Flipcharts

CATs/Assignment/Presentation 30 %
Final Examination 70 %
