2. Presenting New Lesson

Things around us produce different sounds. Our voices also

produce different sounds. Music uses different sounds.
Sometimes, sounds can be silence, like hearing nothing.

For example:

When the baby cries, it produces sound

But when the baby is asleep, we hear nothing. It is what we

call silence.

Now it’s your turn! I will show you photos and you identify
whether they produce sound or silence.

1.
1. Sound Silence

2.
2. Silence Sound

3.
3. Sound Silence

Excellent!

4. Establishing Lesson Purpose

Our Objectives for today are as follows. Let us read

together At the end of our lesson, we should be
able to:

1. Distinguish between sounds and

silence
2. Demonstrate understanding of
sounds and silence

3. Appreciate the beauty of music

in our daily life

5. Discussing New Concepts and and practicing skill #1

Music expresses our feelings. Song writers, music

arrangers, and music composers make songs through
their emotions. Music exists because people create it,
perform it, and listen to it.

Symbols and signs are important in our everyday lives. We

see different symbols everywhere. At the faculty office
we see the sign “Please knock 3 times before entering”.
In the library what sign do we see?

Silence please
Correct!

Signs help use follow rules and tell us what to do.

In Music, we see different symbols and signs that music

composers and arrangers use to make music.

What do you see on the picture?

Lines

Correct! This lines in music is called the Staff.

How many lines are there?

5
Yes! And how about the spaces?
4

Good Job! Therefore, a musical staff has 5 lines with 4

spaces.

Other Symbols we see and use in Music are Cleff

It is a symbol written in beginning or left side of the staff.

G-Clef

(Students will be given a chance to

practice drawing the notes.)

F-Clef

F clef is being compared to the half shape of the heart with

2 dots on the side.

And wait, there’s more.

We also have important symbols called the Notes.

Basic Kinds of Notes:

1. Whole note

2. Half Note

3. Quarter Note

4. Eight Note

Rest Symbols

1. Whole Rest

2. Half Rest

3. Quarter Rest

4. Eight Rest

These notes and rests are written in a musical staff

5. Discussing New Lesson and Practicing New Skill #2

Now let us study the beat or the count of notes and rests

Whole Note and whole Rest have the same number of beat

= 4 beats of sound = 4 beats of silence

Likewise, half notes and half rests have the same number of
(Students will follow the teachers
beats
demonstration)
= 2 beats of sound = 2 beats of silence

Quarter note and quarter rest has also the same number of
beats or count

= 1 beat of sound = 1 beat of silence

Eight note and eight rest has the same number of beats

= ¼ beat of sound = ¼ beat of silence

6. Developing mastery

Activity 2: Action!

Direction: Do the beat of the given notes

The first one is an example

1.

Student will try demonstrate the beat

Good job!

2.

3.

Excellent!

7. Application

Activity 3: Do you know me?

Instruction: identify the given notes and rests and

demonstrate the beats.

1.

1. Half note – 2 beats of

2. sound

2. Whole note – 4 beats od

sound
3.
3. Quarter rest – 1 beat of
silence
4. 4. Eight note – ¼ beat of
sound

5. 5. Half rest – 2 beats of silence

6. Quarter note – 1 beat of

sound
6.
7. Eight rest – ¼ beat of
silence

7. 8. Whole rest – 4 beats of

8. Making Generalization and Abstraction about the

Lesson

Activity 4: Animal sound our silence

Now As I call you one-by-one you have to be quick in

responding. When I say sound you make animal sound, any
animal sound, but when I shout silence you should keep
quiet. Understood? Yes, Teacher.

Sound Meow!
Sound! Tweet-tweet-tweet

Silence --------------------

Excellent!

How about this. What do we call this?

A staff

Very good!

How about this?

A G-clef

Where do we write the symbol G-clef?

How about this symbol?

F-Clef

Where is it written?

On the beginning of the staff

Remember kids that musical symbols are important to make

symbols.

Music is composed of different notes. You can create music

by writing notes.

Rest is a musical silence, it is important to sustain energy

when singing or playing a musical piece.

Good job! Do you have any questions?

None, ma’am!
