question carries 1 mark. There is no internal choice in this section:
Q.1. A pure substance which contains only one type of atom is called ————–.
(a) An element (b) a compound
(c) a solid (d) a liquid

Q.2. The smallest particle that can take part in chemical reactions is ————–.

Q.5. Principal, Azimuthal and magnetic quantum numbers are respectively related to:
(a) Size, shape and orientation (b) Shape, size and orientation
(c) Size, orientation and shape (d) None of the above

Q.6. According to Aufbau principle a new electron enters the orbitals when:
(a) (n + l) is minimum (b) (n + l) is maximum
1
(c) (n + m) is minimum (d) (n + m) is maximum
Q.7. Which of the following is not permissible?
(a) n= 4, l = 3, m= 0 (b) n= 4, l = 2, m= 1
(c) n= 4, l = 4, m= 1 (d) n= 4, l = 0, m= 0

Q.8. The atomic orbital is ————–

(a) The circular path of the electron
(b) Elliptical shaped Orbit
(c) Three-dimensional field around nucleus
(d) The region in which there is a maximum probability of finding an electron

Q.9. Assertion (A): Boron has a smaller first ionisation enthalpy than beryllium.
Reason (R): The penetration of a 2s electron to the nucleus is more than the 2p electron hence 2p electron is
more shielded by the inner core of electrons than the 2s electrons.
(i) Assertion and reason both are correct statements but reason is not correct explanation for assertion.
(ii) Assertion is correct statement but reason is wrong statement.
(iii) Assertion and reason both are correct statements and reason is correct explanation for assertion.
(iv) Assertion and reason both are wrong statements.

Q.10. In the resonating structures of benzene, the number of sigma and pi bonds are
(a) 3π and 12σ (b) 3σ and 3π
(c) 6σ and 6π (d) 12σ and 12π

Q.11. Which one of them is the weakest?

(a) Ionic bond (b) Covalent bond
(c) Metallic Bond (d) van der Waals force

Q.12. Assertion (A): Sodium chloride formed by the action of chlorine gas on sodium metal is a stable
compound.
Reason (R): This is because sodium and chloride ions acquire octet in sodium chloride formation.
(i) A and R both are correct, and R is the correct explanation of A.
(ii) A and R both are correct, but R is not the correct explanation of A.
(iii) A is true but R is false.
(iv) A and R both are false.

Q.13. Which of the following pairs represents isobars?

(a) 3He2 and 4He2 (b) 24Mg12 and 25Mg12
(c) 40K19 and 40Ca20 (d) 40K19 and 39K19

Q.14. The electronic configuration of chromium (Z=24) is:

(a) [Ne] 3s2 3p6 3d4 4s2 (b) [Ne] 3s2 3p6 3d5 4s1 2
(c) [Ne] 3s2 3p6 3d1 4s2 (d) [Ne] 3s2 3p6 4s2 4p4
SECTION-B

15. Calculate the mass of a photon with wavelength 3.6 Å.
16. What is the difference between molality and molarity?

17. All transition elements are d-block elements, but all d-block elements are not transition
