IV. PROCEDURES TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

Preliminary Activities Good morning, everyone! Good morning, sir!

So, who is assigned to lead the prayer? Students give a name.

(Start the prayer.)
(After the prayer.)

Before you seat down kindly arrange your Students arrange their chairs
chairs and pick up some pieces of and pick some pieces of papers.
papers…

Who is absent today?

- Class beadle kindly wrote down who is None sir.
absent today if there is.
Very good that everybody is present
today.

Do you have any assignments? None sir.

By the way, please observe our

classroom rules which is to;

1. Listen when the teacher is talking.

2.Raise your hand if you want to ask a
question or any clarifications, or you want to
use the comfort room.
3.Always be respectful.

Can we all agreed to my rules inside this Yes sir.

classroom?

A. Elicit Recap about the topic last meeting:

Before we start, anyone who can

remember what was the topic last
meeting?

Can someone give example

- Thank you
B. Engage Before we start out proper discussion let’s
play a game.

“ CHARADES”

Divide the Class:

Split the class into two or more teams with
an equal number of players.

Setup:
3 players from the acting team picks a card
and acts out or describes the term without
speaking or writing numbers or words.
The other team members try to guess the
correct term within a time limit (1 minute).

Guidelines for Acting:

No speaking, writing, or using props.
Only gestures, body movements, or pointing
to imaginary objects are allowed.

Scoring:
Teams earn 1 point for each correct guess.
If no one guesses correctly within the time
limit, the other team gets a chance to guess
for half a point.

Did you get the mechanics on how to play Yes sir.

charades?

Winning the Game:

The team with the most points at the end of
the game wins.
Words be given:
(Mode)
(Data)
(Peak)
(Tail)
(Spread)

C. Explore Very good

So our topic for today is about Normal curve

But first, before we dive in to our main topic
let me read to you our objectives for today's
session.

All right, very good. Any other sketch on

what is a normal distribution?

Thank you for your cooperation class, some

got the correct answers and some are not,
but I commend your participation in
sketching a normal distribution.

D. Explain The normal curve is a graphical

representation of the normal distribution, a
fundamental concept in statistics and
probability. It is often called the bell curve
due to its symmetric, bell-shaped
appearance.

Key Features of the Normal Curve:

Symmetry: The curve is perfectly symmetric

around the mean (μ).
Mean, Median, and Mode: These three
measures of central tendency are identical
and located at the center of the curve.
Tails: The curve extends infinitely in both
directions, approaching but never touching
the horizontal axis.
Standard Deviation (σ): The spread of the
curve is determined by the standard
deviation. Approximately:
What are the characteristics of normal
curve? It has a symmetric view sir.
What you have seen on the left
side will be seen also at the right
side.

E. Elaborate Procedure:
1. Construct the normal curve of the
distribution and locate the given.

2. Shade the normal curve based on the

given.

3. Find The area of the region.

4. Conclusion

Example:

A teacher recorded the weight of his

students and got an average of 132.5 kg
with a standard deviation of 13.4. Assuming
that the weights are normally distributed,
what percent of the students are between
119. 1 kg and 159. 3 kg?

Step 1
1. Construct the normal curve of the
distribution and locate the given weights.

Step 2
2. Shade the normal curve based on the
word problem.

Step 3
3. Find the area of the region.
To find the area of the region, we add the
given areas below.

34.13 + 47.72 = 81.85 %

Step 4
Therefore, there are 81.85% who are
between 119.1 and 159.3 kg

Another Example
The average score of 200 students in an
entrance exam was 75.2 with a standard
deviation of 3.8. Assuming that the scores
are normally distributed, how many
students got 79 and below?

What should we do first? Construct the normal curve of

the distribution and locate the
given.
Very Good!

What would be our 2nd step?

Shade the normal curve based

Very Good! on the given.

How about our 3rd step?

Find The area of the region.

Very Good!

50.00 + 34.13 = 84.13%

80.13 (200) = 168.26 or 168

Now, what would be our conclusion? Therefore, there are

approximately 168 students who
got 79 and below.
Very Good!

Try this!
The average weight of students in a school
is 134.6 kg with a standard deviation of
3.8. Mrs. Antazo wants to identify how many
students have weight between 123.2 kg
and 138.4 kg. Assuming that the weights are
normally distributed, what percent of
the students can Mrs. Antazo identify?
Solution:

1. Construct the normal curve of the

distribution and locate the given weights.

2 Shade the normal curve based on the

word problem.
The problem asks for the percent of the
students who weigh between 123.2 and
138.4 kg. Thus, shade the area between
these weights.

3. Find the area of the region.

To find the area of the region, we add the
given areas below.

49. 87 + 34.13 = 84.00%

4. Therefore, there are 84% of the students

who weigh between 123.2 and 138.4 kg.
F. Evaluate Instructions: Read the problem carefully
and answer use the step by step
procedure. (20 points)

A car travels at a different speeds which are

normally distributed for 16 hours. Given that
the average speed is 56 kph with a standard
deviation of 5.2, in how many hours does
the car travel at a speed of between 45. 6
and 71. 6 kph?

Solution:
1. Construct the normal curve of the
distribution and locate the given speed.
2. Shade the normal curve based on the
word problem.
The problem asks for the number of hours
that the car travel at speed of
between 45.6 and 71.6 kph. Thus, shade
the region between 45.6 and 71.6.

3. Find the area of the region.

To find the area of the region, we add the
areas below.

47.72 + 49.87 = 97.59%

97.59(16)= 15.6144

4. Therefore, there are 15. 6114 hours that a

car travel at speed of between 45.6 and
71.6 kph.
G. Extend Agreement:

I want you to practice more and gain

mastery regarding to the normal curve . The
normal curve will serves as your foundation
for the incoming topic of statistic and
probability.
