Important Mnemonics
(Cheatcodes)
Here we will call all the extra and important materials which require
cramping as “Mnemonics” - reference for the timetable. - very Important

The first step for you is to print 8 Maps of India, with state distinctions and mark
the following in them -
1. Ramsar sites (Search them) or use this
https://www.clearias.com/ramsar-sites-wetlands-india/

2. Biosphere reserves in India and the states and capitals near the tropic of
cancer
https://www.sarkariexameasy.com/2020/08/biosphere-reserves-in-india-
map.html

3. Climatic regions of India according to koppen classification.

https://geography4u.com/tag/climatic-regions-of-india-upsc/

4. Folk Painting in their respective states and also puppets

5. Folk theatre and martial arts

6. National parks as numbers, and then use another paper to note down
which national park they represent
https://edubaba.in/national-parks-in-india/
(This is for reference)

7. Tiger reserves in India

https://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/wildlife/tigerreserves.htm

8. Unesco world heritage sites

https://www.mapsofindia.com/maps/india/world-heritage-sites.html
It's better to make these maps, instead of using already made maps, because it
will help you in practising, and remembering.

The below-given is a good website to find important maps to practice -

https://www.mapsofindia.com/india/

On the below-given website you can practice locations etc on maps, helpful in
remembering
https://lizardpoint.com/geography/

I would recommend Orient Black Swan Atlas - as it has good maps, as well an
interactive CD.

Further stick 4 kinds of maps (Buy them from market) around places where you sit,
even the bathroom, or where you eat
1. World Political
2. World Physical
3. India Physical
4. India Political

Map Practice
Map practice as mentioned in the timetable will include downloading blank maps
and then marking the important landscapes, etc like in South America map mark
the mountain ranges.
Also, search and mark important straits, places in the news, like National parks, or
wildlife sanctuaries.

Countries that the Prime Meridien passes through

A prime meridian is a meridian (a line of longitude) in a geographical coordinate

system at which longitude is defined to be 0°. Together, a prime meridian and its
antimeridian (the 180th meridian in a 360°-system) form a great circle. This great
circle divides the sphere, e.g., the Earth, into two hemispheres. If one uses
directions of East and West from a defined prime meridian, then they can be called
Eastern Hemisphere and Western Hemisphere.
There are 8 countries, 3 continents and 6 water bodies lies on Prime Meridian
passes.

The Strategy to make more such mnemonics -
Step 1: Write down the set of words that you need to memorize in
close vicinity on a page.
Step 2: Check the words’ first alphabet’s and write them as a single
word in an unordered way.
Step 3: Now check the number of vowels that you have in your word
as more the number of vowels, less alien your mnemonic will sound
to you and hence, better to memorize.
Step 4: Take the vowels and insert them in between the consonants
in a way in which a better and simple word is constructed.
Step 5: Make sure that the word that you have constructed for
yourself, does rhyme or relate to anything around you because the
best mnemonics are those which are related to your life’s
proceedings. And, that is also the reason why aspirants should
prepare their own mnemonics.
Chapter 4
Important Tricks, Hacks, and
Scientific-Intelligent Guesswork
for Paper 1 and Paper 2
Paper I

There is a certain way to attend the paper, so as to be more effective.

First, you should learn to attend the paper in 3 stages -
1. When you start reading , solve the questions where you are 80% sure or
more sure.
Attending the first round, mark the questions where you are 50% sure or
you can deduce 2 alternatives. DON'T SOLVE THEM, ie don’t fill the
answer in the omr sheet for these
Usually when you are well prepared you might be able to answer 40
questions in this round, if the paper is hard then it might be about 35.
2. In the second stage try to solve about 40 + questions where you were
able to deduce 2 alternatives and have 50% risk.
Don’t take risks on very difficult questions, like that of ancient history
where you have no idea.
3. In the last stage only take risk If the question seems attendable,
On average you can attend 90 questions, for a normal paper like that of 2020. But
in question papers like 2021 don’t take unwanted risk, there you can attend 80- 85
questions.
You will understand this once you start studying, and solving papers.
Remember - THE WAY YOU CALMLY ATTEND YOUR PAPER ON THE EXAM
DAY CAN MAKE THE WHOLE DIFFERENCE TO GET YOU SELECTED.
Read this compulsorily -https://abhijeetsinhaupsc.wordpress.com/2018/05/16/a-
different-prelims-strateg/
This is very important. To learn some extra things
Paper II
In this paper with practice you can know if comprehensive passages suit you,
because they are risky for many people.
For passages, always read the questions first and then read the passage, don't try
to answer by what you think, answer according to what the passage says.

For logical reasoning and other questions you can use any good book or the one
recommended in the list.
In this paper more practice will improve your efficiency and score.
Chapter 5
Preparations and necessary
requirements to start with the
timetable
To start with the timetable,

● Read the whole timetable one beforehand.

● Make changes if it doesn’t match your speed - specifically in stage 1 i.e.
the first 45 days. If you are reading for the first time it might not suit you,
as it has been prepared for those who have at least read the most
known books at least twice before. So you can make changes with part
2 in the 45 days to match your speed and cover the whole course. In the
timetable the course is read thrice within the first 45 days.
● Prepare all that is said in the mnemonics
● Prepare a list of tests you want to attend in the timetable.
Or if you want to take test series, or download for free and attend in
home setting
● Tests must be attended on paper with omr sheet like real tests. And at
the same time as 9:30 am to 11:30 am. So make a routine to wake up on
the right time
● Keep all blank omr sheets and map printouts ready
● Arrange all the books, you can even download, mostly all of them for
free.
Chapter 6
Guidelines for the Timetable and
Formula to Analyze performance
To follow the timetable carefully -

● You can change the timetable according to your speed, but I would
recommend not to change the subjects and the things you have to do
like map practice.
● You might not be able to read all the mnemonics in the given time, so
you just have to read as much as you can and then read the other part
in the next given time.
● Many times you will find the time accorded to be less, so bring out some
extra time from your routine. But if you are really willing, trust me you
can do this, I did this, and many times I even studied for 15 hours.
● Sometimes you might be left with extra time, don’t waste it, use it wisely,
Time is a very precious commodity.
● Analyse your performance based on your completion of daily targets.
And the score, in the beginning the score could be very less, don't get
disheartened, you will definitely improve with every revision.
● One extra day has been given for cover up.
● Be attentive give your 100% in following the timetable
● Follow pomodoro technique - 5 minutes break in every 30 minute, it's
better to have 10 minutes break in every 1 hour. Breaks are important,
as they help in better retention.
● Stick your photo in front of your study place, and write down whatever
rank you aim for. Now write down and stick each days timetable as you
begin the day, on your photo, such that it can be removed, so when you
complete your timetable you can remove it and see your topper photo,
this will keep you motivated to complete the day's target.
● Be confident, we all feel every other day that this is hard, but I did it, its
natural to feel this way, just don’t lose.
● The preparation requires a lot of sacrifices in terms of enjoyment, Chech
Tushar Gupta’s answer about this on quora, you will know how much
this exam requires.
● I didn’t use my phone for 1.5 years, this is the level required from you.
● While having food you can watch the big picture on RSTV, or discussion
on Bharata First Youtube channel.
● Be ready for everything that appears.

Important Tips for the Final Exam
Day
FINAL DAY

All those dreams that you have lived through the night,
It's time to bring them all alive.
—Jaashiin

EXAM DAY
[Sunday]

The Most important thing is to

● Take good sleep
So that you are fresh and attentive - 7 hours sleep before
this day’s night
● Be calm and have patience
Don’t get over excited if the paper is easy, don’t panic if it is
hard
IT IS THE SAME FOR EVERYONE
THE ONE WHO GIVES HER/HIS BEST IN THIS
SITUATION WILL WIN.
● Follow the 3 time strategy
Last year many attended a lot more questions, even for a
hard paper, don’t repeat that mistake
● Don’t ramble over paper 1, do attend the paper 2, at all
costs, whatever may be the reason.
● For CSAT, be calm and try to attend as many questions as
you know and the easy ones before, leave the time taking
ones for the end.
● You must have known your strength in CSAT by now, so
attend those first.
● You have studied well, believe in yourself, I believe in you,
You just give your best
● It is better to fill OMR as you attend questions, leaving it for
last might create panic, follow the strategy that worked for
you in the tests, don’t change it at the end.
● After both papers are done, don’t start searching for random
answer key, I did this mistake, and cried for an hour, as the
answer key that I checked on Jagran Josh was all wrong, so
wait till night for Reputed institutes answer keys - IASbaba,
Insights, Vision IAS, Shankar Ias, ForumIAS. The answer
keys might even take 2-3 days.
Chapter 12
Next Step - Analyzing and getting
ready for UPSC Mains
● Start preparing for mains after taking a 3 day rest, even if answer keys
show otherwise. Rest is important you have done real hard work
● Anything can happen, UPSC is quite unpredictable, but the result is out
within 20 days, so no harm in studying for mains.
● Set your goals, I will also upload a timetable before prelims, for your
reference as a book.
