Calculate percentage increase/ Decrease.
To find the original quantity given the percentage increase/decrease and the
new quantity.
Definition:
Remark 1.80:
(i) 7
100 reads as 7 percent
(ii) 10
100 reads as 10 percent.
Usually the denominator 100 is not written instead the symbol % is used to
denote

7 = 7 × 1 = 7%

In any circumstance the total number of items being considered is taken as
100%. For example, if there are pupils in a class, this is considered as

100%. If 60% of these are girls then the percentage of boys is taken as 100%
- 60% = 40%.

Changing a percentage to a Fraction. .
To convert a percentage to a fraction, replace the symbol % by 1/100 then
simplify where possible.
(i) 25%
(ii) 65%
(iii) 125%
(iv) 12½%
