Question:

What object were used to light the area?

Answer: It is a Christmas Light

Very good!

What religion usually celebrates Christmas?

Answer: Roman Catholic

Why do we celebrate Christmas?

Because Jesus Christ was born
Christmas light has the thing to do with our lesson today.

It will not allow electric current to pass through and another bulb will
not light up.
What happen if I were going to do on the second circuit?

Other bulbs are not affected. It still allows electric current to flows to
another bulb.
Excellent!
D. Discussing new The first circuit shown to you is called the Series Circuit and the other
concepts and one is called Parallel Circuit.
practicing new
skills #1
(Analysis) Series Circuit
When bulbs are connected one after the other in one chain. Electric
current flows through a single path, so when bulb is loosened or
Page 4

busted, all the bulbs in this circuit will not light anymore.
Parallel Circuit
When bulbs are in different loops. Each bulb is a part of a different
circuits. When bulb is loosened, taken or burned out, the other bulbs
still light up. This is because each bulb has its own pathway.
Just like the Christmas light, if it was set a series circuit it will affect all
the other bulbs. If it was set as parallel circuit, another bulb still lights
up even one bulb is busted.
Now, we will have a group activity.

The group must be consisting of Girls and Boys to have a Gender

Awareness and Equality.

Group Activity:
Group 1.
Connect the different electrical component cut-outs to form a series
circuit
Group 2.
Connect the different electrical component cut-outs to form a parallel
circuit
Group 3.
Paste a bulb eyes emoji inside the box above each picture if it is an
example of series circuit and battery emoji if it is an example of parallel
circuit.
Rubric

Let’s give ourselves a VERY GOOD CLAP!

Remember the following effect of changing number of

components in a circuit;

✔ The more bulb the dimmer light.

✔ The more batteries the brighter light but bulb will be

busted/burned if too much voltage.

✔ The lesser bulb the brighter light.

✔ The lesser batteries the dimmer light.

For the setup of Series circuit, what do you think will happen if we add
another bulb or more?

Answer:
E. Discussing new It will make the bulb dimmer and dimmer
concepts and
practicing new Now, we can see the effect of adding more numbers of com
skills #2 ponent in circuits. It will lessen the electricity flowing through the bulb.
(Analysis)

Note: Let the pupils count the number of bulbs in the circuit.

Now let’s see. For example, in MATH computation;

For instance, If we’re going to look on the amount of voltage of the

battery.

1 battery is equal to 9 volts and we have 3 bulbs

We will divide 9 by 3

How much voltages are there in each bulb?

Answer: 3 volts in each bulb

Very Good!
Page 6

What type of circuit is this?

Answer:
It is a Parallel Circuit

F. Developing mastery In your EPP class, you will be having an actual making of extension
(Independent Practice) wire.

For example, you are going to install electricity at home,

What is the most common circuit used at home?

Answer:
Parallel Circuit

Why?
Because bulb in a parallel circuit will still function regardless of the
other bulbs connected in the circuit.

How does Electricity Helps Human?

G. Finding practical
applications of Answer:
concepts and skills in Electricity does a lot of work for us. We use it many times each day. It
daily living lights our homes, warms and cools our rooms, and helps us keep them
(Application) clean. It cooks our food and washes the dishes. It really helps us at
home and most specially in the kitchen.

H. Making What are the different types of circuits?

generalizations and
abstractions about the Answer:
lesson Series Circuit and Parallel Circuits
(Generalization)
What are the effects of changing the number of components in a
circuit?
Answer:
More batteries/voltage (power source) makes the bulb glow
brightly but too much batteries/voltage (power source) can make the
bulb busted.
Adding more bulbs (load) can make the light dimmer but
lessening the bulb (load) will make it brighter. Longer wire makes it
hard for the current to flow that is why the bulb glow dimmer.
Why it is important to learn about the following circuit?
Because, learning circuits helps us identify what would be the
Page 7

best circuits apply at home.

Read each item carefully. Choose the letter of your answer.

1. Mary Ann noticed that a set of ten bulbs in her Christmas tree lights
did not light up when it was turned on. What could be a probable cause
of this?
A. Small wires are used.
B. Small bulbs are used.
C. There are bulbs in the strand.
D. There is one defective bulb in the set

2. What will happen to the other bulbs in a series connection when one
bulb is removed? The other bulbs will ________________________.
A. light
B. not light
C. have dim light
D. have bright light
I. Evaluating learning 3. What will happen to the other bulbs in a parallel connection when
(Evaluation) one bulb is removed?
A. few bulbs will light.
B. A few bulbs will no longer light.
C. The other bulbs will still light.
D. The other bulbs will no longer light.

4. Which of the following measures can prevent fire caused by

electricity?
A. Have a regular inspection of electrical cords
B. Avoid walking under low dangling wires.
C. Touch a switch with dry hands.
D. Do not leave sockets empty.

5. In a series connection, why do remaining bulbs not light up when

one bulb is taken out from its holder?
A. The other bulbs will not light.
B. The other bulbs were burnt out.
C. The path of electric current was renewed.
D. The path of electric current became incomplete.

Note:
⮚ This Lesson plan can be modified by the teacher base on the needs of the learners.
⮚ The teacher may construct a concrete example of series circuit and parallel circuit to be
presented/used during discussion. (Realia)

⮚ Indicator 4 will be observed on how the teacher deliver the lesson proficiently using
English as medium of instruction.
⮚ The lesson was integrated across and with in learning areas such as MATHEMATICS
and EPP.

Annotation:
The lesson plan employs inquiry-based learning based on their observation and
collaborative approach through groupings. In terms of inquiry-based learning, the learners are
allowed to think reasonably based on their observation on the circuits presented. The learners
also allowed to worked in a group. This approach (Collaborative) let the learners share what they
got about the lesson and present to the group.
