CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

Street food is a food or drink sold on streets and in public places. It's common seeing people buying some, after work,
school, or after a very long day. Apart from being cheap and convenient, it also suits many people's tastes. Some
people however are against street food, which they also call dirty food, even though they know of its remarkable
taste, as it is sold on streets where pollution and dust are evident. This knowledge opens an opportunity for us, young
entrepreneurs, to establish a small business where we can grow and earn profitable income, taking into account, our
cooking skills and unique recipes for street foods.

cleaner surrounding and environment?

5. What are the possible factors that affect the consumers' taste and preference when it comes to street food?

Office workers - Since it will be sold in a commercial building, it will benefit office workers in the surrounding area as
well. It is more accessible because it is close to their workplace.

Financially unstable people - it is cheap, which is advantageous to those who cannot afford to eat in a restaurant.

To the Marketers - It is advantageous for them because they are the ones who advertise and promote products and
services.

To the Seller - The seller benefits as well, especially if their products are bought by many customers. They will gain
profit.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

According to the Look Upgrade Corp (2019), street food can be found almost everywhere in the Philippines, near
schools, churches, parks, and roads. It is an exciting cuisine that everyone can afford and enjoy; it is ready to eat and
available all the time. Filipinos love it, as they do not have to spend a lot of money to get a lot of food. However,
though the street food is usually healthy, it is not always so.

The quality of the ingredients used in making street food, along with the processes of storing and preparing it, are
major factors in determining its safety. unfortunately, many street food vendors do not properly store their goods
and have insufficient infrastructure for providing safe drinking water, restrooms, freezing ice cream, disinfection of
surfaces, hand washing facilities and waste management. in addition to this, often when water is available it is not
suitable for drinking or cooking with, as it can be contaminated by insects, rodents, and other animals. (Hanashiro et
al., 2005; Lucca and Torres, 2006).

According to an article entitled, 'Street Foods: Urban Food and Employment in Different Countries,' the youth in the
rapidly growing city of Iloilo, Philippines, rely on street food to sustain themselves. Students take advantage of the
opportunity to both patronize, and sometimes even work for, street food vendors while attending school, which gives
them a chance to make some profit and gain valuable experience in the business that will help them establish their
own enterprises when they graduate. However, over time, as street food vendors attempted to compete with fast
food chains in Iloilo, corruption began to spread, and this caused the industry to suffer a downfall. Tinker, Irene
(1997)

In accordance with Bruce Kraig and Colleen Taylor Sen PhD, street food is the most lucrative sector in the global
economy. It is reported that 2.6 billion people consume street food on a daily basis. Street foods are typically
associated with developing countries, as food trucks have become common sights in many big cities. Not only is street
food a key part of culinary tourism for travelers looking for unique eating and drinking experiences, but top chefs
have gone so far as to incorporate variations of it onto their more upscale menus. Street Food around the World: An
Encyclopedia of World and Culture (September 2013)

In accordance with an article headed, ' Street Vended Food in Developing World: Hazard Analyses,' street vended
foods are not only popular for their unique flavors, convenience, and cultural and social significance; they have now
become an important source of nutrition. Furthermore, they provide business opportunities to aspiring
entrepreneurs,
