Emi 1

The document contains a series of physics assignments focused on electromagnetic induction, including problems related to induced emf, magnetic flux, and the behavior of conductors in magnetic fields. Each question presents a scenario or calculation involving concepts such as Faraday's law, the motion of magnets, and the effects of magnetic fields on current-carrying conductors. The assignments require students to apply their understanding of electromagnetism to solve practical problems.

(c) Magnet is in accelerated mo on towards the coil
(d) Magnet is at rest near the coil
2. A metallic cylinder is held ver cally and then or small magnet is dropped along its axis. It will fall

the field. The radius of the ring starts shrinking at the rate (da/dt). Then induced-emf at the
instant when the radius is a is-
(𝑎) 𝐵
(b) 𝜋𝑎𝐵(𝑑𝑎/𝑑𝑡)
(c) 𝜋𝑎 (𝑑𝐵/𝑑𝑡)
(d) 2𝜋𝑎𝐵(𝑑𝑎/𝑑𝑡)

5. A wheel with ten metallic spokes each 0.50 m long is rotated with a speed of 120 rev/min in a
plane normal to the earth’s magne c field at the place. If the magnitude of the field is 0.4 Gauss,
the induced e.m.f. between the axle and the rim of the wheel is equal to

6. In a circuit with a coil of resistance 2 ohms, the magne c flux changes from 2.0 Wb to 10.0 Wb in
0.2 second. The charge that flows in the coil during this me is
(a) 5.0 coulomb (b) 4.0 coulomb (c) 1.0 coulomb (d) 0.8 coulomb
7. An increasing current is flowing through wire PQ. The direc on of induced current in coils A and

8. A current-carrying coil of total resistance R is kept inside magne c field. How is the change in
magne c flux through the coil related to the amount of charge passing through the coil?
9. A thin rod AB is kept in a region of uniform magne c field outward directed as shown in the
figure.

Rod is made to rotate about the pivoted end A with angular velocity ω. Calculate poten al

10. A wheel with 10 metallic spokes each 0.5 m long is rotated with a speed of 120 rev/min in a
plane normal to the horizontal component of Earth’s magne c field HE at place. If HE = 0.4 G at
the place, what is the induced emf between the axle and the rim of the wheel? Note that 1 G =
10–4 T.
11. A metallic rod of length L is rotated at an angular speed w normal to a uniform magne c field B.
Derive an expression for the current induced in the rod, if the resistance of the rod is R.
12. A conductor of length 2.0 m is falling freely under gravity from a height of 15 m so that it cuts
the magne c lines of force of the horizontal component of Earth’s magne c field of strength 0.3
gauss. Calculate the emf induced across the conductor.
13. A skeleton cube is constructed by connec ng twelve wires of equal length (each 5 cm). The cube
is moving with a velocity of 10 m/s in the direc on of a magne c field of 0.06 Wb/m2 . Find the
emf induced in each arm of the cube. If now the cube moves perpendicular to the field, what
will be the emf induced in each arm?

14. The figure given below shows a conduc ng rod AB res ng on two metal rails XA and YB, which
are 30 cm apart in a uniform magne c field of strength 0.5 T, ac ng perpendicular into the plane
of paper. The ends X and Y are connected through a resistance R. If the current induced in the
rod is 0.1 A when it moves to the right with a velocity of 8 m/s, find the value of R. Also, give the
direc on of induced current in the circuit.

15. A 0.5 m long metal rod PQ completes the circuit as shown in the figure. The area of the circuit is
perpendicular to the magne c field of flux density 0.15 T. If the resistance of the total circuit is 3
Ω, calculate the force needed to move the rod in the direc on as indicated with a constant speed
of 2 m/s.

16. Refer to the given figure. The arm PQ of the rectangular conductor is moved from x = 0,
outwards. The uniform magne c field is perpendicular to the plane and extends from x = 0 to x =
b and is zero for x > b. Only the arm PQ possesses substan al resistance r. Consider the situa on
when the arm PQ is pulled outwards from x = 0 to x = 2b, and is then moved back to x = 0 with
constant speed v. Obtain expressions for the flux, the induced emf, the force necessary to pull
the arm and the power dissipated as Joule heat. Sketch the varia on of these quan es with
distance.

17. A circular coil of 30 turns and area 250 cm2 is rota ng about its ver cal diameter with an

horizontally to its plane. Calculate the maximum voltage induced in the coil.
