A. Background information for learners.


Social work encompasses several activities that are directed at individuals, families, groups and
community to improve human and social conditions, alleviating human distress and social
problems. These people may constitute the clientele and audience of professional social work. The
purpose of social work is to improve the social services delivery network systems , processes and
methods.
Discipline of Communication deals how humans use verbal and non verbal messages to create
meaning in various contexts. The discipline provides us with understanding of how we construct
meanings, in this way we can further appreciate the process, the content, and the effects of
communication in all various forms.

B. Learning Competency/ies
1. Describe the clientele of social work.
2. Distinguish the needs of individuals, groups, organizations and communities.
3. Illustrate the different processes, and methods involved in undertaking social work.
4. Identify the goals and scope of communication.
