govern educators' conduct and behavior in their professional roles. It acts as a moral
compass, guiding teachers to maintain the highest levels of integrity, professionalism, and
ethical behavior in their interactions with students, colleagues, parents, and the community.
Here's an overview of key principles commonly found in the Code of Ethics for Professional
Teachers:
1. Commitment to Students: Teachers are committed to promoting the welfare and holistic
development of students. They strive to create a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning
environment that nurtures the intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being of all
students
2. Professional Integrity: Teachers are expected to demonstrate honesty, fairness, and
transparency in all their professional dealings. They uphold the values of integrity,
trustworthiness, and ethical behavior in their interactions with students, colleagues, and the
community.

maintain the confidentiality of student records and information. They handle sensitive
information with discretion and ensure that student privacy is protected at all times.

They do not engage in or tolerate cheating, plagiarism, or any form of academic dishonesty.
Teachers model ethical behavior and encourage students to uphold high standards of
academic integrity.

and the community. They create a culturally responsive learning environment that values
and respects the unique backgrounds, perspectives, and identities of all individuals.

the teaching profession. It reinforces the importance of ethical behavior in fostering a
positive learning environment and promoting the well-being and success of all students.
CASE STUDY
Article VIII section 4, “A teacher shall not accept favors or gifts from learners,
their parents, or others on their behalf in exchange for requested concessions,
especially if undeserved" highlights an essential ethical principle in the teaching
profession. This principle is rooted in the Code of Ethics for Professional Teachers
and emphasizes the importance of maintaining integrity, impartiality, and fairness in
teacher-student relationships.
By refraining from accepting favors or gifts in exchange for undeserved
concessions, teachers uphold the principles of equity and meritocracy in education.
This practice helps prevent favoritism, bias, or unfair treatment based on external
influences such as gifts or favors. It ensures that all students are treated equally and
receive the support and opportunities they deserve based on their efforts, abilities,
and achievements.
Furthermore, by adhering to this ethical standard, teachers demonstrate their
commitment to professionalism, ethical conduct, and the best interests of their
students. Upholding this principle fosters a culture of trust, respect, and fairness in
the educational environment, ultimately contributing to the integrity and credibility
of the teaching profession.
Yet, there are some teachers who failed to abide the law. There is this case where
the teacher who fails to follow the code of ethics for professional teachers specifically
the article VIII section 4. In the small town of Cangcalaw, there was a big problem
at the elementary school. One student's mom, Mrs. Sanchez, wanted her daughter
Lita to be the top student at graduation. She asked Mrs. Anderson, a fair and caring
teacher, to change the rankings so Lita could be number one. Mrs. Sanchez even gave
Mrs. Anderson a nice gift to persuade her. Feeling torn and pressured, Mrs. Anderson
made a bad choice. She changed the rankings to make Lita the valedictorian, even
though it wasn't fair to the other students.
After doing this, Mrs. Anderson felt guilty and uneasy about what she had done.
As the graduation day got closer, students started talking about the unfair change in
rankings. Some students felt upset and betrayed, while others stayed quiet, not sure
what to do. Despite the tension, no one spoke up or reported what had happened.
After the graduation, the school's reputation was damaged by the unfair actions.
