Computer Systems Servicing Guide

Installation of Operating System

Windows 7
 Language to install: English then click next then
 Click install now
 Click the I accept the license and term then next
 Choose custom (advanced) then next
 Click drive options (advanced)
 Click new
 Type the size 10,000 then apply and ok
 Format partition 1 and 2
 Then click unallocated space then click new
 Click apply
 Then format partition 3
 Then click partition 2 then click next
 Wait until the formatting are finish

Windows 2008
 Language to install: English then click next then
 Click install now
 Choose windows 2008 R2 standard full install x64 bit if the installer then
next
 Click the I accept the license and term then next
 Choose custom (advanced) then next
 Wait until the formatting are finish
 Changing computer name
 Click Provide computer name and domain
 Click Change and type the computer name (Server)Click OK to Restart
your computer to apply the changes
 Click Close and Click Restart Now

CONFIGURING COMPUTER SERVER

1. Setting Time zone


 Go to Initial Configuration Task(oobe)
 Click Set time zone
 Click Change Time Zone
 Select (UTC+08:00) Taipei
 Click Ok
 Click Change date and time
 Set the date and time
 Click Ok
2. Setting IP Address
 First set client PC to Obtain network properties
 Set Router IP ADDRESS
 Set Server IP ADDRESS
 Choose Use the following IP Address and type the IP address
(192.168.1.3)
 Click Subnet mask (255.255.255.0 will be assigned automatically)
 Assign Default gateway (192.168.1.1) –this is the IP address of the router
 Click OK and click Close (Close Network Connections Window)

3. Configure Windows Firewall


 Click Configure Windows Firewall
 Click turn windows firewall on or off
 Turn off home or work location settings
 Turn off public location settings
 Click ok
 Click close

4. Install Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS)


 Add roles
 Next
 Check the box Active directory domain services
 Next
 Install

5. Installing and Configuring Domain Name Services (DNS)


 Type dcpromo then enter
 Check the box used advanced mode installation
 Next
 Choose create new domain in a new forest
 Next
 FQDN of the forest root domain –type the domain (Css.edu)
 Next
 Next
 Forest functional level choose WINDOW SERVER 2008 R2
 Next
 Next
 Yes
 Next
 Enter the given password
 Next
 Check the reboot on completion
6. Installing and Configuring DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol)
Server
 Click add roles
 Click the box of the DHCP server/file services/print and document services
 Then next, next, next
 Ip address of server will appear
 next
 preferred DNS server IPv4 address input the ip address of the server
 Click validate
 Click next
 Click next
 Click add
 Type scope name (css.scope)
 Type starting IP address (192.168.1.20)
 Type ending IP address (192.168.1.40)
 Click ok
 Then next
 Highlight the scope name and ip range
 next
 Click disable DHCPv6
 Then click next, next,
 Click install
 Wait until finish
 Click close

7. Joining client to server domain


 Before joining check the firewall if it’s on then off the firewall
 Go to client (client)
 Select Start and Right click the computer
 Click properties
 Click change setting
 Then click change
 Click domain
 Type the domain name (css.local)
 Click ok
 Windows security
 Username (administrator)
 Password (P@ssword123)
 Click ok
 Restart

8. Folder Redirection
 Start
 Administrative tools
 Active directory users and computers
 Go to domain right click (css.edu)
 New
 Organizational unit
 Name: OU
 Uncheck the protect container from accidental
 Ok
 Expand the domain(css.edu) go to the organizational name you created
 Right click go to new then choose user
 Type the user name to the first name and to the log on name
 next
 input the password
 then uncheck the user must change password at next logon
 check the box of user cannot change password and password never
expires
 next
 finish

CREATE A FOLDER TO DRIVE D:


 Right Click and Look for Properties
 Click Sharing tab
 Click share and Everyone in the dropdown list
 Click add and Change permission level of Everyone to Read/write
 Close and proceed to Advanced sharing
 Click Share this folder
 Change permission to Full control
 Make sure to Copy network path in Sharing tab
9. Creating GPO (Group Policy Object)
 Click start
 Administrative tools
 Group Policy Management
 Expand forest
 Expand domainsand expand domain name (css.edu)
 Click Create a GPO in this domain
 Rename the GPO
 New gpo (cssgpo)
 Right click GPO (cssgpo)
 Then edit
 Expand “user configuration”
 Expand policies
 Click windows setting
 Choose Folder redirection(double click)
 Right click desktop
 Click properties
 Setting-choose basic
 Root path: paste network path (\\server\css)
 Uncheck the Granting and Move the contents
 Apply, yes, then ok
 Same as to documents
 Login user/s and check in our server if folder automatically created.

10. Installing Print and Documents Services (for printer deployment)


 Go to Server Manager and click Roles to add roles.
 Select Print and documents services.
 Next -> Next-> and Click Install

11. Installing Printer


 Click start-> Administrative tools -> Print Management
 Print servers -> Server - > Printers right click and add new printer
 Select -> Add a new printer using an existing port -> Next
 Select -> Install a new driver -> Next
 Select printer (assessment package) -> Epson -> Epson LX-300+ /II
 Click Next 3 times.
Deploy printer in GPO
 Right Click printer installed and click Deploy with Group Policy
 Click Browse -> domain->GPO-> Click Okay
 Check the “ The users that this GPO applies per user and per
machine” -> Click Add -> OK
 Check client PC under Devices and Printers
 If the Printer name doesn’t exist -> Run -> gpupdate
 Check again for printer
12. File Screening
 Adding File Server Resource Manager
 Click Server Manager -> Roles -> Scroll down and look for File
Services -> Add Role Services -> Click File Server Resource Manager
Create File Screening
 Administrative Tools -> File Server Resource Manager
 File Screening Management -> File Screens -> Create File Screen
 Browse File Screening path-> Select Local Location (users folder (D:)
 Define Custom -> Custom Properties -> Create -> Type File group
name -> Type in Files to include e.g. *.txt , *.Jpeg , *.bmp add one by
one -> Click OK
 Select File Groups you’ve created -> Click OK -> Create -> Save the
files screen without creating template
 Try create a file in our client PC with file extension included in File
group or screening.
13. Drive Mapped
 Create a Folder same as Folder redirection process remember to copy
Root Path
 Administrative Tools -> Group Policy -> Select Same GPO -> Edit
User configuration -> Preferences -> Windows Settings -> Drive Maps
 Right click Drive Maps-> New -> Mapped Drive
 Action= Create -> Location: Paste the Network Path we’ve copied ->
Select Drive Letter according to the test package -> Select Show this
drive and Show all drives -> OK
 Go to Client PC and type Gpupdate /force after pressing windows icon
+R key on your keyboard -> type Y to Logoff
 Login the last user -> Check by pressing Windows icon + E (same as
clicking computer label
 Look for the shared drive mapped.
14. Installation of Remote Desktop Services
 Server Manager -> add Roles -> Select Remote Desktop Services ->
Next -> Select/check Remote Desktop Session Host -> Install remote
desktop session Host anyway -> Next ->Next - > Do not Require Network
Level AU->Next-> Install
 Click Close and Restart computer
 Open Administrative Tools -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote
Desktop Session Host Configuration
 Right click in Restrict each user to a single session -> Properties ->
Uncheck Restrict each user to a single session -> Click OK
 Administrative tools -> Group Policy Management
 Edit GPO
 Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates ->
Network -> Network Connections -> Windows Firewall -> Domain
Profile -> Look for REMOTE DESKTOP word -> Enabled -> type “*” in
textbox-> OK
 Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop
Session Host -> Connection -> Allow users to connect remotely using
Remote desktop Services – Enabled -> OK

Remote Desktop Connection (client)


 Go to client and Right click to Computer -> Properties -> Remote Settings ->
Enter Administrator and Password -> Click Allow connections from computers
running any version of Remote Desktop-> OK
 click start then click Remote Desktop Connection
 computer: IP Address to remote or Computer name
 click connect
 Enter Administrator and Password

Remote Desktop (server)


 click start then type Remote Desktop Connection
 computer: IP Address to remote or Computer name
 click connect
 Enter Administrator and Password.
15. Remote App deployment
 Administrative Tools -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote App
manager
 Click Add RemoteApp Programs -> Select App (word and excel)
 Click the first App -> Create .rdp File -> Next -> Browse location (usually
Desktop of specific user/s)
 Click the 2nd App -> Create Windows Installer Package File -> Next ->
Browse location (usually Desktop of specific user/s) -> Check Desktop –
Next -> Finish
 Go to Client , Check the two deployed application and installed with
administrator’s credentials

Core Competency #4
 Install Server Backup in Server Manager
 Click Server manager -> Click add Features and Select Windows Server
backup -> Install
 Administrative Tools ->Windows Server backup
 Backup Once -> Next -> Local drives ->Next -> Select destination (make
sure not the drive to be backup -> Next -> Backup
 Recovery -> next and Select the backup file details
 Remove Client from domain
 Click Computer and Properties -> Change settings -> Type administrator
username and password -> Change -> Workgroup : Type workgroup ->
Click OK and Ok -> Restart Now
 Remove Dcpromo
 Next -> Check Delete the domain -> Next -> Check delete all application -
> Next ->P@ssw0rd -> Next -> Reboot on completion
 Stop all Running in all Share and Storage Management
 Server Manager -> Roles -> File Servies -> Share and Storage
Management -> Select all and Stop sharing (except IPC$)
 Select File Services and stop all running under System Services
 Roles -> Remove all roles by unchecking all selected/installed roles -
>Restart and Wait for the Removal progress to finish
 Features uncheck all installed Features and proceed to remove.
 Check Roles and Features , It should be shown 0/17 for the roles and 0/14
in features installed.
