1. System Design Overview

This smart home security system controls access to different rooms using combinational circuits,
including logic gates, multiplexers, decoders, encoders, and a demultiplexer. The system allows
authorized users to enter rooms by entering a code or using a keycard.

2. Ingenious Integration Strategy of Components

Logic Gates: The system employs AND, OR, and NOT gates in an integrated manner to verify access
conditions. The AND gate ensures that both the correct keycard and code are required for entry, adding an
extra security layer. For instance, when both inputs (code and keycard) are valid, the AND gate outputs a
"1" to signal access approval. The OR gate manages multiple valid keycards, granting access when any of
them is entered, allowing flexibility for different users. NOT gates are used to block invalid access
attempts by inverting incorrect signals. This seamless arrangement of logic gates helps manage different
access scenarios efficiently, ensuring only the right combination unlocks the door.

Multiplexer (MUX): The multiplexer plays a crucial role in handling various access codes and keycards
for multiple rooms. It simplifies the system by choosing one input from several potential inputs (codes or
keycards), and forwards it to the decoder for further processing. The MUX reduces the need for multiple
data lines, streamlining signal management. For example, if there are different access codes for different
rooms, the MUX selects the correct code based on the input received, ensuring that only one access code
is processed at a time. This integration allows the system to handle multiple room entries efficiently
without overwhelming the circuit.

Decoder: The decoder translates the binary inputs from the MUX into room-specific signals. If the MUX
selects a code for Room 3, the decoder converts that binary signal into a unique output that corresponds to
Room 3’s lock mechanism. Each room has its dedicated output line, activated only when the correct code
is processed. This integration between the MUX and decoder allows for precise access control to different
rooms in the house, ensuring that the system directs the signal to the right room’s lock.
Encoder: The encoder ensures that signals from access devices, like keycards or input pads, are converted
into binary form for easy processing by the system. The encoder takes a keycard input and translates it
into a binary code that the logic gates and MUX can handle. This seamless conversion allows the system
to process multiple types of input devices (e.g., keycards, pin pads) uniformly, enhancing compatibility
and simplifying integration with other components like the MUX and decoder.

3. Efficient Use of a Demultiplexer

The demultiplexer (DEMUX) enhances the system’s performance by efficiently handling access to
multiple rooms. Once the input (keycard or code) is verified and processed by the gates, MUX, and
decoder, the DEMUX directs the signal to the appropriate room’s lock. If a user has access to Room 1, the
DEMUX routes the approved signal to that room’s locking mechanism, leaving the others untouched.
This ensures that the correct room is unlocked, minimizing errors and improving the security and
scalability of the system.
Conclusion
By combining logic gates, multiplexers, decoders, encoders, and a demultiplexer, this system effectively
controls access to multiple rooms in a smart home, ensuring only authorized users can enter. Each
component works together seamlessly, improving security and ease of access.
