LEARNING PLAN

Subject: CHEMISTRY 1 Grade Level:11

Unit Topic: MATTER AND ITS PROPERTIES Quarter: 1ST

LEARNING PLAN

EXPLORE

There are different kinds of matter around us. What you drink and eat is
matter. You, yourself are a matter. But what is the nature of matter? And what
exactly is matter? Let’s find out more about matter and the nature of matter.

Consider this question:

What do you think all things are made of?

PRE-ASSESSMENT:
Direction: Read and analyze each item carefully. Circle the letter of the
correct answer.
A soli1. It is a state of matter that has a(n)
a. indefinite volume and an indefinite shape.
b. definite volume and a definite shape.
c. definite volume and an indefinite shape.
d. indefinite volume and a definite shape.

2. 2. In which state of matter are particles packed tightly together in fixed positions?
a. gas
b. solid
c. liquid
d. compound

3. 3. The state of matter in which particles are arranged in either a crystalline or an

amorphous form is
a. liquid.
b. gas.
c. solid.
d. fluid.

4. 4. Particles of a liquid
a. are tightly packed together and stay in a fixed position.
b. have no viscosity.
c. decrease in volume with increasing temperature.
d. are free to move in a container but remain in close contact with one another.

5. 5. The surface of water can act like a sort of skin due to a property of liquids called
a. viscosity.
b. surface tension.
c. condensation.
d. evaporation.

Map of Conceptual Change:

Activity 1: IRF Chart
Direction: Fill in the IRF Chart by writing your idea about the essential
question. Write your in the initial column only.

Essential Question:
What is the arrangement of particles in solid,
liquid and gasses?

Initial Revised Final

Activity 2: Jumbled Words - Rearranging Letters Form a Meaningful Word

Directions: Rearrange the jumbled letters to form meaningful words related to our
lesson.

1. TMARTE - _________________

2. ILDSO- _________________

3. IUIQDL- _________________

4. CESPRILTA- _________________
5. SPEAHS- _________________

Activity 3: Group Experiment:

You are now ready to be amazed of the different phases of matter. Let us
begin with a group experiment/demonstration, which draws out your peripheral
reaction to the object indicated.

Directions: You will be divided into four groups and perform the following
experiments:

Group Experiment
1 Ice Melting: Observe and record what
happens when ice melts.
2 Water Boiling: Watch water change to
steam (demonstrate with caution or
show a video).
3 Balloon Inflation: Observe how gas fills
the balloon.
4 Baking soda and vinegar experiment

PROCESS QUESTIONS:
1. What have you observed in the following activities? How did matter
change?
2. How did the composition of matter change in reference to its original
shape?
3. What are the phases of matter?

a representation of the Liquid, and Gas
arrangement, relative
spacing, and relative
motion of the particles
Directions: Based on the concepts of this lesson and your observations in activity
in each of the three
2, illustrate the arrangement of particles in
phases of matter
solid, liquid and gas by filling in each square box with small circles that represents
the particles of matter. See the
sample below as your guide. Then fill in the blanks with a correct answer.
Learning Targets:

I can compare the

Activity 5: IRF Chart

Direction: Fill in the IRF Chart by writing your idea about the essential
question. Write your in the revised column only.

Essential Question:
What are the arrangement of particles in the
three phases of matter?

COMPETENCY
Activity 6: Illustration

Directions: Write your significant learning from the discussion about the three
phases of matter and key in the salient points about the lesson.
Activity 7: Complete the table
Directions: Complete the table below by listing down the characteristics of the
three phases of matter.
Activity 8: IRF Chart
Direction: Fill in the IRF Chart by writing your idea about the essential
question. Write your in the final column only.

Essential Question:
How can the knowledge of the properties of matter
applicable in real life?

Initial Revised Final

Learning TRANSFER
Competency
Transfer Goal:
Students on their own and on the long run will be able to create a digital
poster on the basic facts about Matter and its properties and their practical
applications in life. It must be relevant and comprehensive, covering all the three
phases of matter.

Performance Task:

G- create a digital poster on the basic facts about Matter and its properties
R- artist
A- science teacher
S- evaluate the application of the changes of matter in real life scenario.
P- digi-poster
S- Main idea, details, content-accuracy, graphics-relevance, graphics-
visual, design/layout, fonts and usage and mechanics
Analytic Rubric:

POST-ASSESSMENT: 3 2 1 ACTIVITY

POST ASSESSMENT
Direction: Complete the table.
3 THINGS I LEARNED
1. ____________________________________________________
2. _____________________________________________________
3. _____________________________________________________
2 INTERESTING FACTS
4. _____________________________________________________
5. _____________________________________________________

1 QUESTION I STILL HAVE

1. _____________________________________________________
Value Integration:

The features that can be measured are referred to as matter properties.

Chemical qualities such as flammability, corrosiveness, and acidity are
examples, as are physical properties such as color, texture, and flexibility.
These characteristics distinguish one substance from another. The more we
understand about diverse substances and topics, the better we will be able to
use them.
