LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 8

Topic The Particle Nature of Matter
Sub Topic Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures
Grade Level Grade 8
Date July 26, 2024
Teacher Jheca Claria Abaquita

I. OBJECTIVES At the end of this lesson, the students are expected to:
a. differentiate the three states of matter according to its properties;
b. appreciate the importance of the three states of water by relating it
to real-life events; and
c. create a model demonstrating the particle nature of matter,
effectively using physical materials.
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
the particle nature of matter as basis for explaining properties,
physical changers, and structure of substances and mixtures
B. Performance The learners shall be able to:
Standard present how water behaves in its different states within the water
cycle
C. Learning Explain the properties of solids, liquids, and gases based on the
Competencies Particle Nature of Matter. (S8MT-IIIa-b-8)
II. CONTENT The Particle Nature of Matter
A. Integration Values Integration and ICT Integration
B. Strategy Multimedia Resources, Demonstrations
III. LEARNING Science Curriculum Guide (Prescribed by the Department of
RESOURCES Education) pp. 144

IV. PROCEDURES Material/ Assessment

Tools
ELICIT
Opening Prayer (video presentation)
Greetings
Checking the attendance
Setting of Classroom Rules
 Listen attentively
 Raise your hand if you want to
answer
After the students read the Learning
Objectives, let them identify the pictures Video presentation,
according to what is being asked. PowerPoint, Pictures

ENGAGE
The class will be divided into two
groups. Each group will follow whatever
the teachers says and the group who
followed correctly will receive an extra
points.
When the teachers says “compress”
students will move forward to each
other as if they are having a group hug.
When the teacher says “near” students
will going to move a little bit away from
each other and when the teacher says
“far” students will move away from each
other as far as they can.
Let the students participate on the game.
EXPLORE Instructions:
For this activity each group will present
any physical materials that you can see
inside of the classroom and explain
your observation.
Select representative to present it in
front of the class.
EXPLAIN Let the student share their observation about
the materials they have found inside the
classroom.
Teacher’s Discussion
Matter is anything that occupies space and
has mass. It is made up of tiny particles called
atom.
The reason why some are hard, and some are
not because of the arrangements of the PowerPoint
particles in matter.
Three states of matter are solid, liquid and

gas.
Solid has definite shape and volume, particles
in solid are tightly packed together. Liquid has
a definite volume and takes the shape of a
container. Gas takes the volume and shape of
the container; particles are far from each
other.
ELABORATE Let the students watch a short video about the
Particle Nature of Matter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e
Ask students: “What can you say about the
particles of solids, liquids, and gases?
“Particles can move or cannot?” Based from Video from YouTube,
the video you watched. PowerPoint, Ice
Tell the students that they can see the cubes, frying pan,
three states of matter in water. stove
Water exist in three states
Teacher demonstrate an experiment
about the states of matter in water
Students will observe
Let the students share about the
importance of knowing these states of
water happen in our daily life.
EVALUATE MULTIPLE CHOICE. Choose the letter of the
correct answer.

matter you are focusing a particular
characteristic. What term refers to the
characteristics that describe a sample
of matter?

b. mass
c. property
2. Which of the following is NOT true
about the particles of solids, liquids, and
gases?
a. liquids have definite volume
b. solids have indefinite shape and
volume
c. gas particles are from each other
3. which of the following states of matter Checklist
allow an easy flow of particles?
a. Gas and liquid
b. Liquid and solid
c. Solid and gas
4. Which of the following has the strongest
force of attraction between the
particles?
a. Gas
b. Liquid

6. Which of the following states of matter
has an indefinite shape and definite?
a. gas
b. liquid
c. gas
7. Which of the following states of matter
allow an easy flow of particles?
