THE TIME (part 1)
Use it’s + time to say what time it is.
You can ask What time is it? or What’s the time?

Use at + time to say when you do something.


Ex: A: What time do you get up?
B: I get up at half past seven.

In English, we use the numbers from 1 to 12 (not 24) to talk about the hour.

a.m. = in the morning


p.m. = in the afternoon

12 a.m.: noon ( or midday)


12 p.m.: midnight

We use about after it’s to estimate the time.

Have has two meanings.

For family and possessions.


e.g. I have three children.
He has a big house.

For activities.
e.g. I have lunch at 1.30.
She has a shower in the morning.

Use have with food and drinks.

ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

15. Read the article. What is it about?

Mornings are different for different people. For some people, mornings are always easy. They
always wake up early. They eat breakfast, they read the morning newspaper and they go to work on
time. These are morning people.

For other people, mornings are often very difficult. They always go to bed late at night. They sleep
late and they wake up late. They sometimes drink a cup of coffee but they don’t often eat breakfast
(because they are usually late for work). These are night people.

You don’t decide to be a morning person or a night person. It’s genetic.

16. Decide if the following sentences are about morning people (R) or night people (‚).

GRAMMAR
Adverbs of frequency

We use adverbs of frequency to say how often you do something.

• Adverbs of frequency go before all main verbs (except be).


after be.
e.g. I’m always late.
I always go shopping on Friday.
• Use a positive verb with never and hardly ever
e.g. He never smokes
• In negative sentences the adverb of frequency goes between don’t / doesn’t and the
verb.
e.g. I don’t often wake up late.
• In questions the adverb of frequency goes between do / does and the verb.
e.g. Do you sometimes go shopping on Sunday?

Expressions of frequency

Expressions of frequency usually go at the end of a sentence.


e.g. I go to the cinema once a week.

Some expressions of frequency:


once a week, twice a month, three times a year, every day, every week, …
