Teacher's Activity Learner's Activity

Good morning, class!
Good morning, Sir.
Before we start our class for today, kindly
arrange your chairs properly and make
sure that your places are well organized
and distraction-free.

Okay, let’s check the attendance.

Who’s absent?
None, Sir.
Very good! It looks like you are all excited

2. Review
a. Socratic Method
Last meeting, we discussed about Writing
and Balancing Chemical Equation. Now
will you define what is a chemical
equation, Liamme? Chemical equation illustrates the formulas
and quantities of reactants and products
in a chemical reaction.

Correct! You mentioned about reactants

and products, will you differentiate the two, Reactants are substances that start a
Romarck? chemical reaction (given on the left-hand
side) while product are substances that
are produced in the reaction (given on the
right-hand side.)

In balancing chemical equation, we need

Very good. Why is it important for us to to follow the law of conservation of mass
Balance Chemical equation, Christian? where in the number of atoms of each
elements in the reactant must be equal to
the number of atoms of the elements in the
product.

Very well said.

b. Activity Method
Let's have an activity to further know if you
really understand our previous topic.
DIRECTION: Balance the following
Chemical Equations.

1. __N + __H -----> __NH

2. __H + __O ------> __HO

3. NaOH + KNO -----> __NaNO +KOH

4. CH + O ----> CO + 2HO

5. Fe + NaBr ---> FeBr + Na (Students will complete the Chemical

Equation on the board.)

Very good! It seems that you really

understand our previous topic.

B. Motivation
I have here sets of pictures and I want you
to observe the properly. Based on your
prior knowledge about chemical change,
choose the picture that illustrates chemical
change and give evidence of the chemical
change.

(Students follow instructions.)

a. Change in color
b. Change in color
c. Production of light/ temperature change/
change in color.
d. Change in color
e. Change in color
f. Change in color

lOMoARcPSD|49711273

Very good! All of those images illustrate

chemical change because of the
evidences present in their structure.
Whenever there is a chemical change, we
can say that there is always a chemical
reaction. And the different types of
chemical reaction is our topic for today.

C. Lesson Proper The picture is all about the reaction of

vinegar and baking soda because when
this two combines together, small bubbles

as we go through our discussion.

Now, what can you say about this picture,

Josie?

It is a picture of a rusted nail.

Nails get rust because they are being

exposed to oxygen.

Okay, how about the next picture, John?

Yes, Sir.

As we put food in our mouth, there is an

enzyme in our saliva that breaks down
sugars and other carbohydrates into

Good. Let us proceed to the last picture.

Do you ever wonder how the digestion of

food takes place? Combination Reaction

Any idea Class? Yes Ivy?

A reaction when two or more reactant
combine to form a single product.

Nice! All of the pictures I've shown are

associated with our topic for today which is
the Types of Chemical Reaction.

Now, we have six different chemical

reactions and what is the first one,
Elmina?
N+3H--> 2NH
And what is a Combination Reaction,
Melanie?
In this reaction a single reactant breaks
down into simpler ones. ( 2 or more
products). This is the reverse of
Good. The general formula for combination reaction.
Combination reaction is: A+B-->AB.

For example: AB--> A+B

C+O-->CO

Let's try another example:

N+3H-->___
What will be the product of nitrogen
hydrogen gas when combined together,
Junmark?

Next is Decomposition Reaction. Any idea

what is decomposition reaction, Leah?

It is also called as single displacement

reaction . In this reaction , a more active
element replaces a less active element in
the compound.
Nice. What is the general formula for
decomposition reaction, Elmarie?

Downloaded by Elaine Barcelon (barcelonelaine1@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|49711273

Okay, for example:

2HgO-heat->2Hg+O
2AgBr-light->2Ag+Br

Heat and light are just some of the factors

that affect the chemical reaction. You will
learn more about the factors affecting
chemical reaction next meeting. Based from the activity series, the most
reactive metal is the lithium and the less
reactive metal is the gold.
Let us proceed to the next type of
chemical reaction. The Substitution
Reaction. Any idea what is it? Yes
Charles?

Very good. The general formula for

Substitution Reaction is:
A+BC-->AC+B

And the activity series of metals is being

used in this type of chemical reaction. In a metal displacement reaction, a more
active metal kicks out a less active metal
Take a look on the activity series in your from a compound.
hand out that I gave to you.

What do you think is the most reactive

metal? Less reactive?

Hydrogen can also be displaced from

compounds by all alkali metals and even
some alkaline earth.
Very good. The activity series is a list of
elements arranged in decreasing order of
reactivity. The most active element
appears at the upper portion of the table.

Each element can replace any element

below it in a compound that is by
substitution.

There three displacement reaction under Just like metals, more active halogens will
Single Displacement Reaction. And the displace less active halogens from a
compound.
first one is the Displacement Reaction in
Metals. Any idea what displacement
reaction in metals is, Ivy?

Okay, for example:

Fe+CuSO-->FeSO+Cu

Next is the Hydrogen Displacement, AB+CD-->AD+CB

Please read, Cedrick?

Thank you. For example:

2Na+2HO-->2NaOH+H Burning
Just like this reaction, an explosion occurs
because hydrogen is displaced from water,
it quickly forms hydrogen gas and 2
molecules of sodium hydroxide.

Now is the Displacement Reaction in

Halogens. Please read, Rhea.

Thank you. For example:

CI+2NI-->2NaCl+I Acid-Base Reaction

The fourth chemical reaction is the Double

Displacement reaction which is
characterized by the exchange of ions
between two compounds.

Any idea what is the general formula for

this reaction, Ara?

Downloaded by Elaine Barcelon (barcelonelaine1@gmail.com)

lOMoARcPSD|49711273

Nice! For example:

NaCl+AgNO-->NaNO+AgCl

After Double Displacement next is the

Combustion Reaction. From the word
combustion what does it means?

Okay. Combustion reaction is when

oxygen combines with hydrocarbon
(compound containing hydrogen and
carbon) to form a water and carbon
dioxide.

For example the burning of butane gas:

CH+O-->CO+HO

The last type of chemical reaction is a

special kind of double displacement
reaction that takes place when an acid and
base react with each other. Any idea what
type of reaction is this? Yes, Christian?

Nice! The H+ of acid reacts with the OH- of

the base forming water or salt. For
example:
HCl+NaOH-->NaCl or HO

Yes, Sir.
Now that we are through with the Six
(Students will present their work.)
Types of Chemical reaction let's have an

9. H2SO4+NaOH-->NaSO4+H2O table .)
10. NiSO4+Li3PO4--
>Ni3(PO4)2+Li2SO4

Very good class!

D. Application

Now, I want you to go to your group mates

and make a short story or scenario that
shows the different chemical reactions you
encounter every day and you will present it
in a form of role playing. Clear?

Okay you may start now.

Very good. Is there any questions or

clarifications regarding the types of
chemical reactions?

E. Generalization
Let’s have a review on what we have
discussed on our lesson for today.
