communication technologies such as
mobile phones, laptops, computers,
telephone, video and audio call, internet
etc to locate, save, send, edit and share
information.

 When we make a video call, we use the

Internet. When we send a text or make a
call, we use cellular networks.

FAMOUS PERSONALITIES BEHIND THE ICT

a. BILL GATES – He introduced Microsoft

b. STEVE JOBS – He introduced Apple

c. Telephone Alexander Graham Bell

d. MARK ZUCKERBERG – He pioneered Facebook and later bought

Instagram

e. MARTHA LANE FOX – developed last-minute.com., an online booking

site for airlines, hotels, restaurant and everything under the sun. Her
website relied heavily on online systems which other websites soon
followed suit.

f. TIM BERNERS-LEE – invented the World Wide Web, an Internet-based

hypermedia initiative for global information sharing.

WHAT IS WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW)
 WWW is an information space where documents and
other web resources are identified by URLs, interlinked
by hypertext links, and can be accessed via the
Internet.
 Invented by Tim-Berners Lee.

Examples:
Web page is a hypertext document connected to
the World Wide Web. It is a document that is suitable
for the World Wide Web.
example of web page - Bing images

Website is a location connected to the Internet

that maintains one or more pages on the World Wide
Web.
It is a related collection of World Wide Web (WWW)
files that includes a beginning file located a home
page.
example of website - Bing images
Web Browser displays a web page on a monitor or
mobile device.
It is a software application for retrieving, presenting, and
traversing information resources on the World Wide Web.

ICT is one of the best ways to improve business
sales and it is important for you to know how to
use it your advantage. One advantage is for
customers to share their thoughts with you
online, directly on your web page. That way, the
customers would feel that you are responsive
and very open in listening to their thoughts. But
in order to do that, you have to make your
website dynamic.
EVOLUTION OF THE WWW
(Types of WWW)
▪ Web 1 (static)

When the World Wide Web was invented, most

web pages were static.
➢ It is also known as flat page or stationary page
because the page is “as is” and cannot be
manipulated by the user.
➢ The content is also the same for all users.
EVOLUTION OF THE WWW
▪ Web 2 (Dynamic)
➢ It allows users to use web browsers instead
of just using their operating system.
➢ Browsers can now be used for their user
interface, application software (or web
applications), and even for file storage.
➢ Examples of Web 2.0 include social
networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing
sites, hosted services, and web applications
EVOLUTION OF THE WWW
Features of Web 2
⚫ Folksonomy – allows users to categorize and
classify/arrange information using freely chosen
keywords (e.g. tagging). Popular social networking
sites such as Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc. use
tags that start with a pound sign (#) or hashtag.
⚫ Rich User Interface – content is dynamic and is
responsive to user’s input. An example would be a
website that shows local content. In the case of
social networking sites, when logged on, your
account is used to modify what you see in their
website.
⚫ User Participation– the owner of website is not the
only one who is able to put content. Others are
able to place a content on their own by means of
comments, reviews, and evaluation.
⚫ Long Tail – services are offered on demand
rather than on a one-time purchase. This is
synonymous to subscribing to a data plan
that charges you for the amount of time
you spent on Internet or a data plan that
charges you for the amount of bandwidth
you used.

⚫ Software as a service – users will subscribe

to a software only when needed rather than
purchasing them. Ex. Google docs

⚫ Mass participation – diverse information

sharing through universal web access.
▪ Web 3 (Semantic Web)
Web 3 is a concept of the World Wide Web that
is designed to cater to the individual user.
Semantic Web– is a movement led by the World
Wide Web Consortium(W3C).
The semantic web provides a framework that
allows data to be shared and reused to
deliver web content specifically targeting the
user.
.
Web 3.0 is yet to be fully realized because of several problems:
1. Compatibility. HTML files and current web browsers could
not support Web. 3.0.
2. Security. The user’s security is also in question since the
machine is saving his or her preferences.
3. Vastness. The World Wide Web already contains billions of
web
4. Vagueness. Certain words are imprecise. The words “old”
and “small” would depend on the user.
5. Logic. Since machines use logic, there are certain limitations
for a computer to be able to predict what the user is
referring to at a given time.
Trends in ICT
1. Convergence– is the synergy of technological
advancements to work on a similar goal or
task.
platform of combining the data, audio and
video network into one platform

2. Social Media– is a website, application, or

online channel that enables web users to
create, co-create, discuss, modify, and
exchange user generated content.
Types of Social Media

receive these updates. Example: Twitter and
Plurk
f) Blogs and Forums– These websites allow
user to post their content. Other users are
able to comment on the said topic.
Example: Blogger, WordPress and Tumblr
3. Mobile Technologies – The popularities of
smartphones and tablets has taken a major
rise over the years. This is largely because of
the devices capability to do the tasks that
were originally found in PCs. Several of these
devices are capable of using high-speed
internet. Today the latest model devices use
5G, which is currently the fastest mobile
network.
Mobile Technologies with different operating systems
⚫ iOS– use in apple devices such as iPhone and iPad.
⚫ Android – an open source OS developed by Google. Being
open source means mobile phone companies use this OS
for free.
⚫ Blackberry OS– use in Blackberry devices.
⚫ Windows Phone OS – a closed source and proprietary
operating system developed by Microsoft.
⚫ Symbian– the original smartphone OS; used by Nokia
devices.
⚫ WebOS– originally used in smartphones; now used in
smartTVs.
⚫ Windows Mobile – developed by Microsoft for
smartphones and pocket PCs.
4. Assistive Media – is a non- profit service
designed to help people who have visual and
reading impairments. A database of audio
recordings is used to read to the user.
