1. If a tower 6m high casts a shadow of 2√3 m long on the ground, then the sun’s
elevation is:
(a) 60° (b) 45° (c) 30° (d) 90°
2. The angle formed by the line of sight with the horizontal when the point being viewed
is above the horizontal level is called:
(a) Angle of elevation
(b) Angle of depression
(c) No such angle is formed
(d) None of the above
3. The angle of depression of an object on the ground, from the top of a 25 m high tower
is 30°. The distance of the object from the base of tower is:
(a) 25√3 m (b) 50√3 m (c) 75√3√3 m (d) 50 m
4. If the height and length of a shadow of a tower are the same, then the angle of
elevation of Sun is
(a) 30° (b) 60° (c) 45° (d) 15°
5. The height or length of an object or the distance between two distant objects can be
determined with the help of:
(a) Trigonometry angles
(b) Trigonometry ratios
(c) Trigonometry identities
(d) None of the above
6. From a point on the ground, which is 15 m away from the foot of the tower, the angle
of elevation of the top of the tower is found to be 60°. The height of the tower (in m)
standing straight is:
(a) 15√3 (b) 10√3 (c) 12√3 (d) 20√3
7. A ladder leaning against a wall, makes an angle 60° with the horizontal. If the foot of
the ladder is 2.5 m away from the wall. Find the length of the ladder.
8. If a pole 12 m high casts a shadow 4√3 m long on the ground, find the Sun’s elevation.
9. A flagstaff stands at the top of a 5m high tower. From a point on the ground, the
angle of elevation of the top of the flagstaff is 60° and from the same point, the angle
of elevation of the top of the tower is 45°. Find the height of the flagstaff.
10. An observer 1.5 m tall is 28.5 m away from a tower of height 30 m. Find the angle of
elevation of the top of tower from his eye.
11. A man standing on the deck of a ship, which is 10 m above water level, observes the
angle of elevation of the top of a hill as 60° and the angle of depression of the base
of hill as 30°. Find the distance of the hill from the ship and the height of the hill.
12. If the angle of elevation of a cloud from a point 10 meters above a lake is 30° and the
angle of depression of its reflection in the lake is 60°. Find the height of the cloud
from the surface of the lake.
13. From the top of a tower 100m high, a man observes two cars on the opposite sides
of the tower and in same straight line with its base, with angles of depression 30° and
45°. Find the distance between the car. [Take √3 = 1.732]
14. A boy standing on a horizontal plane finds a bird flying at a distance of 100 m from him at
an elevation of 30°. A girl standing on the roof of a 20 meter high building finds the angle
of elevation of the same bird to be 45°.Both the boy and the girl are on the opposite sides
of the bird. Find the distance of the bird from the girl. [Given √2=1.41] .
1. What is the angle of elevation if they are standing at a distance of 42m away from
the monument?
2. They want to see the tower at an angle of 60o. So, they want to know the distance
where they should stand and hence find the distance.
3. If the altitude of the Sun is at 60 o, then find the height of the vertical tower that
will cast a shadow of length 20 m.
