Challenge
You will need access to a desktop computer, laptop or tablet with spreadsheet software and
Source file 2.2_parents.csv.
Sofia and Arun surveyed parents of Stage 9 learners for their financial literacy club presentation.
They asked the parents several questions about what they do for a living, their years of experience,
how many children they have and more. Sofia and Arun want to analyse the collected data in a
spreadsheet file.
Using spreadsheet software, open Source file 2.2_parents.csv and examine the content.
Save the file as a spreadsheet with the new name 2.2_parents_analysed.

a In Column L, starting in cell L1, insert the following headings:


• Total number of parents
• Youngest parent age
• Oldest parent age
• Three years of work experience
• Number of parents earning more than $8 000.

b Format the cells L1:L5 to be bold and right-aligned.


c In cell M1, enter a formula to calculate the total number of parents Sofia and Arun surveyed.
d In cell M2, enter a formula to calculate the age of the youngest parent.
e In cell M3, enter a formula to calculate the age of the oldest parent.
f In cell M4, enter a formula to calculate the number of parents with three years of
work experience.
g In cell M5, enter a formula to determine the number of parents earning more than $8 000.
h Insert a new column after the Job ID field and label it ‘Long-serving mother?’.
i In cell K2, enter a formula to display the text ‘Yes’ if a parent is a mother and has 10 or
more years of experience; ‘No’ if a parent is a mother but has less than 10 years of experience.
Otherwise, display ‘Not applicable’.
j Replicate the formula entered in step i to all the cells in the range K2:K51.
