STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Introduction:
I am Bidur Mihata Shrestha, son of Mr. Biswa Kumar Shrestha and Mrs. Basanti Shrestha, born on 18 th
September 2004, a permanent resident of Waling Municipality ward no-14 and holder of passport number:
PA0597881. My family shifted temporarily to Bharatpur Metropolitan City-04 Chitwan, where I did my
further studies. I have now opted to enroll at Victoria University to pursue a Bachelor of Information
Technology degree (BIT).

Academic Background:
I have completed my Secondary Education Examination (SEE) in 2020 A.D, from Narayani Model Secondary
School, Chitwan Nepal securing 3.60 GPA. Then, I completed my intermediate (+2) level studies in science
stream with 2.87 GPA from Narayani Model Secondary School in 2022. After high school, I decided to go
abroad for further study and enrolled in the PTE preparation classes. On 16 th September 2022, I gave the
PTE test and scored an overall score of 58 (Listening-52, Reading-66, Writing-55, and Speaking-61).

Reasons for not choosing to study in Nepal:

Although there are some universities and colleges in Nepal like, Purbanchal University (www.pusc.edu.np),
Tribhuvan University (www.tu.edu.np), St. Xavier College (www.sxc.edu.np), Islington College
(www.islington.edu.np), Birendra Multiple Campus (www.bmc.edu.np), Sagarmatha College of Science and
Technology (www.scst.edu.np) providing courses like Bachelor in Information Technology (BIT), Bachelor of
Science in Computer Science and Information Technology (BSc. CSIT) with fee structure of around NPR
400,000/- to NPR 800,000/-, I decided not to enrol in any of these colleges or universities. The main loath
of such universities and colleges is lack of proper infrastructure, focus on practical knowledge and
availability of internship opportunities. I also found out that proper learning material is not available to
every student. Similarly, education system in Nepal is book-focused where one can pass the exams by
memorizing notes, old questions and books rather than any research or practical projects and I believe that
practical knowledge and hand-on experiences are more important in my field of study at present time.
Thus, I want a study-favourable environment to study in which focuses on providing quality education to
students.

Reasons to choose Australia:

I made my mind to apply for my further education in Australia which is one of the most popular study
destinations for international students due to its welcoming culture and top-notch educational system.
Students have wide study options as over 22000 courses offered by 1100 institutions. I also wanted to
study in Australia since it accommodates multicultural society with a diversified population and has a
strong support system for international students. It would be a good opportunity for me to get to know
individuals from different cultures and study in close cooperation with them. This will undoubtedly be a
delightful experience for me. Likewise, the Education system of Australia has CRICOS (Commonwealth
Register of Institution and Course for Overseas Students), a register that lists all Australian education
providers offering courses to students studying on a student visa and the courses offered. This makes it
safer for international students as it can easily verify whether an educational institution in Australia is
legitimately registered or not. International students can benefit from a high level of financial protection
and other services thanks to the Education Services for Overseas Students (ESOS) Act 2000, which is
another key development in Australian education. ESOS offers resources to help international students find
the appropriate information about the programs, tuition costs, non-tuition costs, study modes, and other
details about organizations and agents. In my study, I was unable to locate any such facilities provided by
other nations. Similar to that, Australia offers Overseas Student Health Cover, a unique type of health
insurance, to foreign students (OSHC). Hence, I am pleased to have chosen Australia for my higher
education as an international student.

Reasons for not choosing other countries:

There are other developed countries which are well known to be the best education providers including
the UK, USA, and Canada. I have done research on these countries expressing my own views.
United States of America
Bachelor’s degrees in these Universities are a bit lengthy (4 years) and expensive as well. Living expenses in
the USA are more in comparison to Australia. Students need to take several pre-enrollment examinations
besides IELTS/PTE, which are tough to crack and a very time-consuming process as it takes around 6-7
months of preparation. High crime rate also can be added to the limitations of USA’s study. So, I left the
option of the USA to pursue study in.
United Kingdom
When I was doing research on universities of UK, I learned that they have high academic standards for
admittance, and the fees and living costs are very expensive (1GBP=NPR.145.69/-), making it very
challenging for me to afford them. Furthermore, because of the abrupt closure of colleges due to the
government's unrestrained policies, many international students lose their tuition payments. Moreover, I
feel international students are still the victims of racial discrimination on and off campus. Due to the
reasons, I dropped my plan to study in the UK.
Canada
The major reason for not choosing Canada for my higher studies is the harsh climatic conditions. I don’t like
winters and Canada is a country which gets heavy snowfall in winters, and temperature sometimes even
goes below -30 degree Celsius.
Reasons for choosing Sydney:
Australia’s most populated city, Sydney is always a bustling hive of activity and action, and with a large
number of students arriving every year, the streets and parks are brimming with a cosmopolitan mix of
students from home and away. The reasons to choose Sydney are below:
1. An outstanding education, Sydney consistently delivers an impressive array of academic
opportunities and is a leading high-quality education provider.
2. A land of opportunity, as a large city, Sydney has plenty to offer students both socially and
economically.
3. A multicultural experience, students from all over are drawn to the relaxed vibe and laidback
beachy lifestyle which means the city streets are infused with immersive cultural experiences.
4. Australia is considered one of the safest countries in the world, with Sydney nominated as the fifth
safest city in the world by the economist’s safe cities index (2019).
Reasons for choosing Victoria University (VU) among other University:
After deciding the country and city, with the thought of getting an international degree from the best
University, I went through multiple online searches, brochures, visiting the websites of high ranked
colleges and Universities, gathering reviews from my seniors, friends, who are already in Australia,
analyzing all important things and facts that should be well considered. I preferred to choose Victoria
University as my study destination after doing details research on www.vu.edu.au/vu-sydney regarding
tuition fees, courses specialization, scholarships and other facilities and services. Victoria University is
ranked on top 3% of universities in the world, according to the Times Higher Education World University
Rankings. Moreover, it has quite an affordable fee structure compared to other Australian colleges and
Universities for the Bachelor of Information Technology program. The tuition fee for my program is AUD
12,320 per semester which is very affordable for me. The courses offered in VU are particularly designed to
fulfill the needs of businesses and industries while also giving students the skills and knowledge that are
needed in today workplace and are in great demand all over the world. This includes the VU Block Model,
in which one unit is taught at a time rather than several at once. Top-notch classrooms, workshops, audio-
visual equipment, and fully outfitted computer laboratories are all available at VU along with first-rate
facilities and services. VU also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to
students including accommodation facilities, study abroad and exchange programs, online courses and
distance learning opportunities as well as administrative services.
Comparative study of other education providers with VU:
Name of providers Course Annual tuition fee Remarks
La Trobe University Bachelor of Information AUD 36,200 Tuition fee is very
www.latrobe.edu.au Technology expensive for me to
afford.
Western Sydney University Bachelor of Information AUD 32,424 Course structure is not
www.westernsydney.edu.au Systems preferred.
RMIT University Bachelor of Information AUD 37,440 Doesn’t provide the
www.rmit.edu.au Technology course in Sydney.
Victoria University Bachelor of Information AUD 24,640 The preferred course

desired location.

Reasons to choose Bachelor of Information Technology:

The Bachelor of Information Technology program focuses on delivering knowledge and skills in computer
networking, application development and computer-based software to meet the current IT industry needs.
The program ensures that graduates develop a broad and coherent body of knowledge in the underlying
principles and concepts of Information Technology. It provides students with the opportunity to explore
and identify critical IT industry demands and to understand how these demands are met. As information
technology is incredibly diverse and not restricted to manufacturing and repairing computers, it allows me
to take my career in a number of different directions which can be fascinating, mission-critical, high-paying
jobs such as Web Developer, Software Engineer, Data Analyst, Network Engineer, Network Security Officer,
Project Officer, Information Security Analyst, IT Security Consultant, Computer forensic investigator,
Software Engineer, Cloud architect and so on. Many of these careers are demanding and offer a handsome
financial reward. In today’s generation, IT has played a vital role in the field of business and education and
also has helped in the diagnosis of different diseases through computer-aided surgery. Because of its
importance in the modern world, undoubtedly this sector will keep on flourishing which in turn requires
experts who work behind to make it effective and efficient. On top of that, I have seen many IT companies
being built in Nepal such as Janaki Technology, Eval Technologies, SPI Nepal, Ant Software, and so on. It
means when I return back to my country after study, I will get lots of options of work and will be paid high.
This shows a promising future for IT Professionals. Thus, focusing on my career and aiming to hold an
international Bachelor’s degree, I would like to study for a Bachelor of Information Technology.

Financial Arrangements:
My family is fully cognizant of the course's possibilities and importance to me in this competitive market,
and also the financial challenges that come with studying overseas. My father, mother and my uncles will
be sponsoring for my education and living expenses in Australia. My mother, Mrs. Basanti Shrestha runs
her business named as “Basanti Stores” and earns an annual income of NPR 984,338.62 from it. My uncle,
Mr. Rajendra Kumar Shrestha is a lower secondary level teacher at Shree Rajendra Bhawani Secondary
School and earns a yearly salary of NPR 664,044.00. Similarly, my other uncle, Mr. Dashrath Shrestha works
as a basic second class teacher at Shree Amar Basic School and has an annual salary of NPR 665,314.80. In
total, the annual income of all my sponsors is NPR 23,13,697.42 which is equivalent to AUD 27,197.83.
Furthermore, my father, Mr. Biswa Kumar Shrestha has sanctioned an education loan of NPR 4,500,000
from Sanima Bank. Hence, I assure you that my sponsors are capable to fund all of my expenses.
Future Career Plan:
I will return to my own country with a solid education and an international credential after completing my
studies in Australia. I will continue to pursue my goal of using the knowledge and skills I have acquired
abroad to help build up the infrastructure in my own nation. Nepal being a developing nation needs
professionals who are knowledgeable and competent in every field, including the technology sector, for
sustainable economic growth. The technology field is slowly but steadily advancing in Nepal, and thus the
demand for such skilled specialists is increasing. The internationally recognized degree I will earn and the
knowledge and skills gained from Australia will undoubtedly offer a benchmark for the success of my
future professional career. Not only this, graduates who have international degrees are favored over
nationally produced graduates. So, after returning to my home country, I will be able to apply for potential
employment profiles of IT officer manager, information security analyst, web page developer e-business
project manager and so on, however, I am determined to take the role of ‘Software Engineer’. I can work in
a variety of software firms, data analysis firms, AI projects, and other organizations including Brain digit,
CryptoGen Nepal, One Cover Pvt. Ltd., NCELL, IT Expert Nepal, Logpoint Nepal, Deer Walk, e-Sewa, World
Link, Classic Tech etc.. Similarly, a growing number of job openings are being advertised every once a week
on the job portals like (https://www.merorojgari.com),(https://www.jobsnepal.com),(https://
merojob.com), (https://kantipurjob.com ) etc. In my initial Phase, I expect a pay of above NPR 50,000 per
month (www.salaryexplorer.com) depending on the standards and policies of the respective companies,
eventually my pay will increase up to NPR 75,000 – 150,000 per month after gaining years of experience.
This will quickly recover my abroad study expenses. While working in my country for more than 4 to 5
years will allow me to broaden my experience and talents too. Later, when I will be competent enough, I
want to launch my own IT business that focuses mostly on software development which will also offer
other services that my nation and its people will benefit from. I'm conscious that it will be really difficult at
first, but I think that all of my experiences and talents will be of the biggest assistance to me at that time.

Reasons to return back to home country:

I have a strong motive of studying in Australia but I definitely want to return back to my home land after
completion of the course. I have no intention of staying in Australia and I am certain that my country need
a skilled and professional person in technology field. My dream is to serve my country with full
determination and help in the development of my nation. Moreover, being the only son in the family, I
have many responsibilities towards them. I have to take care of my parents, support them mentally,
emotionally in their old ages as they have always supported me in every single decision. They have
provided me with the best possible education and sometimes went beyond their limits to provide me with
better opportunities. Moreover, I have a responsibility to look after all of the family's assets and properties.
Thus, after achieving the bachelor and skill for my career development, I will certainly return to my family
and my native land which I take as a land full of opportunities.

Understanding of visa conditions subclass 500:

I’m much more aware about the visa conditions, under subclass 500. I assure you that I will maintain
eligibility under Australian rules and I will heartily respect the Australian cultural values as well.
 I need to maintain my academic progress and the attendance record of 80%.
 I’m not allowed to work before my course of study commences and also not more than 40 hours
per fortnight.
 I’m required to maintain overseas student health cover (OSHC) in my stay period.
 I must notify in my residential address to my education provider within 7 days of moving to
Australia.

Conclusion:
Finally, I would like to assure you that I will prove myself to be good student with higher grades and good
academic achievements. After pursuing a degree in the field of technology with my full effort, I would like
to rise up in the professional world. I want to serve my nation and make a valuable impact and visible
changes in Nepal. I am excited to learn new things, gain skills, experience and education in Australia and
contribute to my own country after my return back to my homeland as a qualified professional. Thank you
for your time and consideration.

Sincerely Yours,
