Statement of Purpose
Personal profile
I would like to introduce myself as Wenxue Yao, born on 04 June 1992 in Yangjing City,
Guangdong Province, China. I belong to a middle class Chinese family consisting of six
members including my father, my mother, my two elder sisters, my younger brother and
myself. I have been brought up with great love and care and education. My parents always
inspired me to have a goal in life. They continuously encouraged me to focus on my study
and try to apply the knowledge and skills to improve our life. As I grew up, I came to realise
the value of education and the ideas shared by my parents became the motto of my life. The
success I gained in my business career with my vocational qualification opened a new
horizon of possibilities in future. This boosted my morale to undertake Advanced Diploma of
Leadership and Management course from an Australian education provider. So, I got enrolled
for General English leading to Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Leadership and
Management program at Signet Institute Australia to start 24 April 2023. Hence, I am
applying for a Student Visa (Subclass 500) to pursue the course in Australia.
My academic background
In regards to my academic qualification, I attended Guangdong Senior Technical School of
Light Industry, majoring in Mold Design and Manufacturing, from 2006 and 2009. Since, I
was motivated to apply the knowledge in real world, I chose pursue a career as a product
designer and test applicability of my skills. So, I discontinued my studies and step into a
career journey.
Work experiences
Upon graduation, in August 2011, I started my career as a product designer in my family
business Hand-in-Hand Luggage Co., LTD, Shenzhen City, China. I worked in this company
till 2013. Then I joined Shenzhen Hand-in-Hand Luggage Co., LTD., Shenzhen City, China
as a Sales Representative in 2013 and continued to work till 2014. After that I worked as a
sales Executive at Shenzhen Hand-in-Hand Luggage Co., LTD, Shenzhen City, from 2014 to
2015. From 2015 to 2017, I worked as a Sales Manager, at Shenzhen Hand-in-Hand Luggage
Co., LTD, Shenzhen City, 2015-2017. Finally, I got appointed as Chief Executive Officer
(CEO), of Shenzhen Wangshu Internet Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen City, in February
2019 where I am discharging my responsibilities till date.
Meanwhile, I also started my own company called Shenzhen Netshu Network Technology
Co., LTD (http://scndewmy.en.alibaba.com) in October 2018. The main activities of my
company are to manufacture and distribute a wide range of solar light products on wholesale
price. Over the years, I have put considerable efforts to expand and expose my company in
international market by developing a website in English and selling products incorporating
with Alibaba Group Holding Limited. However, the unimagined Covid-19 pandemic
harshly affected my business. Meanwhile, I was targeting my business to expand to foreign
market, I considered that earning qualification from an education provider of a first world
country would be very helpful. Because, pursuing qualification from an English speaking
country would not only improve my English language skills, but also enable me to earn
advanced business certification.
Why Australia
The high-quality education system of Australia is one of the biggest reason to study in
Australia. I have learned that there are over 1,000 institutions offering 22,000 courses to
choose from. As an international students this gave me plenty to choose from. Moreover,
many of Australian universities appear in the top 50 in the world. Top institutions such as the
University of Melbourne Melbourne (ranked 33rd in the world) and Monash University offer
a broad range of courses. Also, Australia has a large number of vocational providers
delivering the course across the country. This gave me wider option to choose the right
location, right institution and right course to match my interest. So, I chose Australia for my
proposed study.
Some of the reasons for choosing Australia over countries are the climate of Australia,
quality education, and government’s policies for overseas students. I have grown up in a
warm tropical climate where the temperature remains relatively constant throughout the year,
I found that the daytime temperature of Australia is close to that of my city. Likewise, the
quality of Australian qualification is one of the highest in the world. Australian degree has
global recognition. This means, qualification earned in Australia will unlock the gates of
employers of all over the world.
Moreover, the Government of Australia has established the provisions like Tuition Protection
Service (TPS) and Education Services for Overseas Students Act (ESOS Act 2000) in order
to support international students. TPS is an initiative to assist overseas students to receive
refund of their tuition fees or other alternative arrangement whose education providers are
unable to fully deliver their course of study. Similarly, the aim of ESOS Act (2000) is to
maintain nationally consistent standards for the delivery of courses to overseas students.
These provisions seem to be very impressive for me as an overseas student. So, I decided to
study in Australia over other countries.
Why Sydney
One of the reasons for choosing Sydney as my study city is its being one of Australia’s best,
biggest and most livable cities. In Sydney, there are many world-famous icons such as
Sydney Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, Luna Park, Royal Botanic Garden,
Government House, Art Gallery of NSW and Darling Harbour are located in Sydney. Hence,
I would like to be a part of this city.
Similarly, Sydney is renowned for having a welcoming environment for overseas students.
The city has naturally become a melting pot of cultures and a global hub where overseas
students from all countries are made to feel welcome. It will be a great opportunity for me to
make new friends and quickly integrate yourself into city life in Sydney both inside and
outside of the classroom because I learned that nearly 40,000 international students currently
living and studying in this vibrant city.
Likewise, cultural diversity of Sydney is another thing that attracted me to choose this city.
Because I love to learn about new culture and new languages. I came to know that other than
English language, Arabic, Cantonese, Mandarin, Greek, Vietnamese and Hindi language
speaking community are there in Sydney. So, I believe this would be a great opportunity for
me to fulfil my passion of experiencing new languages and cultures along with my principal
qualification.
Last but not the least, Sydney’s transportation network attracted me which is very
comprehensive, offering a wide range of destinations. The city has a vast and complex
network of bus that covers most of the destinations in Sydney. In addition, the city also has a
highly advanced railway networks which can be the most effective means to travel long-
distance.
The reputation of Signet lies in its approach of embracing the value of providing
opportunities to students coming from diverse cultural and national backgrounds by
supporting and enabling them to pursue their profession. Signet recognises that education is a
continuous and lifelong process. At the core, the institute believes that a quality education
enables students can not only to build and modify experiences, knowledge, and skills to adapt
into a new atmosphere and excel in their roles in the field of their interest.
Further, I carried out a thorough research in terms of which institutions would be best for me
to study General English leading to Diploma and Advanced Diploma of Leadership and
Management. I found a number of providers with the similar programs, however, I got
influenced by Signet Institute. First of all, I got an invaluable information from Signet
Institute’s Business Development Manager Vivian Smith on WeChat to look into Signet
Institute’s trainer and facility quality. She shared some campus photos with me that I am very
satisfied with. I came to know about Signet’s streamlined educational pathway. Also, I learnt
about the option to re-locate to another city should I wish to in the future without having to
change college as it has campus in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide. I am impressed by the
fact that Signet has adopted Canvas LMS, which is the world's fastest growing learning
management system that is considered one of the Australian university standard learning tool.
Hence, I chose Signet for my course.
Financial Capacity
I have been able to save a significant amount of money from my regular income while
working at different companies. At the same time, I have a generous income from my
company which will continue operate under the supervision of my parents and brother even
after I come to Australia to study. Therefore, I have enough fund to cover my tuition and
living expenses for the entire duration of my study.
Visa Conditions
I am aware of the Student Visa (Subclass 500) conditions that an international students
should abide by while undertaking the course in Australia. I have understood the following
conditions and not breach any of them during my stay and study in Australia:
8105 - I cannot work more than 40 hours per fortnight when my course is in session.
8202 - I must remain enrolled in a registered. A registered course is one that is on the
