1- Objective:

This method statement to define the requirements for tiles work in Wall/Flooring.

2- Scope:

This procedure is applicable for tiles work as per approved drawing and technical specification
and relevant IS code.

3- References & standards:

 Project approved drawings.


 Technical specification or as per BOQ.

4- Work Programme:

The tiles fixing work shall be carried out in accordance to work schedule programme.

5- Material Required:

 Cement as per IS:2250


 Coarse sand as per IS:2250
 Tiles as per BOQ/Technical Specifications/equivalent IS code.

6- Resources / Manpower & Tools:

The following tools and tackles will be required for this activity,

 Iron pans
 Floats
 Tile Cutter
 Cutting machine
 Chisels and Hammers
 Rubber Mallet
 Notched Trowel
 Polishing Machine
 Spade.
 Measuring Tape.
 Level pipe.
 Plumb
 Right Angle.

7. Mehod Statement for tiles work in Wall/Flooring:

7.1 For Wall Tiles Fixing:-

 Finish level should be prepared in advance as per Drawing.


 A bedding of cement mortar as per BOQ/Technical specification/Drawing.
 Wall plaster (if required) shall be finished rough (Scratch coat).
 Plaster curing period shall be completed before start of tiling work.
 To ensure rows of tiles are truly horizontal, a level line shall be established to position the
starting course.
 Tiles of specified and approved sizes shall be fixed to wall surfaces with approved
mortar.
 Mixing of mortar shall be strictly followed in accordance with manufacture's/as per BOQ
recommendations.
 Mortar shall be used as per manufacture's/as per BOQ recommendations.
 Apply floated of mortar to dry background and comb the surface with the
recommended solid bed trowel.
 Fill any keys and apply thin even coat of mortar over the entire back of each tile.
 Press tiles onto bedding with twisting/sliding action to give finished bed thickness
recommended by the manufacture/ as per BOQ.
 Tamp the tile with rubber mallet to obtain required mortar and level.
 Tiles shall be laid with required spacers to align horizontal and vertical even joints.
 Lay tiles to pattern in accordance with shop drawings.
 Excessive mix of mortar shall be removed with a damp cloth before the materials has set.
 The vertical joints shall be maintained plumb for the entire true level and plane by
uniformly applied pressure.
 Joints in wall tiles and fittings, after edges of tiles have been thoroughly cleaned it
shall be grouted neatly with approved grout.
 Grout shall be applied to the spaces between the tiles using sponge or a small piece of
the soft cloth.
 Ensure that joints are free dust and debris.
 Force grout and fill joints completely too entire depth, tool to an approved profile,
clean off surface and level free from blemishes.
 Rub wall tiling with a dry cloth when joints are hard.
 Keep expansion, movement and control joints are required as per approved shop
drawings. Joints shall be free of mortar or grout.
 The joints & pattern of the tiles should be maintained as per drawing.
 Care shall be taken for no hollow in bed or joint.

 Joints should be filled up with approved grout material with approved pigment to match
the shade of tile.
 The entire finished surface should be thoroughly cleaned to remove all cement stains etc.

7.2 For Floor Tiles Fixing:-

 Concrete surface shall be cleaned of scales, laitance, set mortar etc. It shall be
washed with clean water.
 Marking of the finish level should be marked on the wall by lime with the help of string.
 Thaiya of the required finish level should be prepared in advance.
 A bedding of cement mortar as per BOQ/Technical specification/Drawing.
 Set mortar to accept tiles is applied, no voids under the tiles occur. Grind off high
spots and fill-in low spots as necessary to ensure no voids occur.
 Preparation of Floors for Wet Areas: Apply tile mortar to the protection screed floor
in the required thickness.
 Tiles shall be placed according to level shown in drawing and shall be placed firmly
with the help of rubber mallet.
 As per survey reference level point, tiles shall be laid level or enough slope to drain
(1% slope) in wet areas as required.
 Care shall be taken in wet areas to avoid/prevent low spot and pooling of water.
 The tiles shall be neatly cut, grind rough on exposed edges around pipes & other
obstructions.
 Make provision of floor drains as per approved shop drawings.
 When the installation has hardened sufficiently a thick grout of cement mixed with
a minimum amount of water/ grout shall be prepared and brushed over the floor until all
the joints are thoroughly filled.
 Application shall be as per BOQ/Tender specification recommendation.
 Surplus mortar/grout material shall be removed with a dry cloth.
 Do not saw-cut joints after installing tiles.
 Provide movement joint not less than 6mm and shall be located as required as
per approved shop drawings.
 The completed floor tile should be avoided from traffic for at least 24 hours or specified
in item specifications.
 The joint width shall not be more than 3mm & joints to be true to the line, continuous and
without steps as per approved shop drawings.

Mode of measurement:

 Mode of measurement shall be as per BOQ specification. A Joint protocol shall be


maintained by the engineer concerned at execution.

8. Quality Assurance
 All the activities shall be in compliance with approved quality plan.
 Inspection test report shall be generated prior to commencement of the activity; any short
fall shall be attended at earlies.

9. EHS – ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH and SAFETY:

All necessary precautions shall be taken in accordance with EHS Plan.

General Safety Considerations:

 The following safety precautions shall be followed during construction.


 All the workers shall wear proper personal protective equipment.
 All the workers & staff personals shall be trained well in works to be executed especially
at height & precautionary & corrective measures to be taken for the same.
 All the workers shall be trained and safety induction shall be imparted to them before
the commencement of work at site.
 Daily tool box talk shall be carried out for mutual understanding of work.
 A competent site supervisor shall be present at all times during work.
 A first aid kit shall be provided in site office.
 Emergency call numbers shall be posted on site for contact in emergency.
 Prepare Risk assessment plan for the activity by identifying risks involved
and recommend safe work methods to carry out the works safely.
