VPL Season - 4 Rules
15. In league stages if two teams are tied with same points, NRR would be
taken into account and the team which has a better NRR would move to the
knockout stage.
16. If a match is stopped due to rain, then match would be started where it was
stopped.
17. Any requests for change of match timings will not be entertained.
18. In matters of doubt not covered by the tournament rules, the decision of the
tournament committee will be final and binding upon all concerned as per the
standard rules.
Batsman Rules:
1. LBW and Leg byes are not applicable for this tournament and no run would
be counted.
2. All “no-balls” (As per ICC rules: front foot, side-line, above the waist,
Fielding restriction etc) result in a free hit in the next delivery
3. A runner for Batsmen cannot be used during any situation in the match.
4. Initial 11 only can bat during the match, irrespective of the substitutes we
could take in the match.
5. All the other ICC cricket rules are applicable as it is.
Batsman could be declared out,
a. When a batsman thinks that he is going to be run out and he blocks the ball
with his bat or changes his line intentionally when running between wickets
to block the ball.
b. The striker is out when willful obstruction or distraction by either batsman
prevent a catch being made.
Batsman cannot be called out, if
a. When a batsman is running between wickets, he does not deviate from his
course and the ball hits him without the batsman blocking the ball on
purpose.
Bowling Rules:
1. Regulations are as follows
a. 8 Overs Match -> 2 – 2 – 2 – 2 (Max over’s by a bowler)
2. One bouncer is allowed per over, provided the ball passes between the
shoulder and the head, However, ball passing over the head will be declared
as a wide.
3. If the first bouncer is above head height and batsman gets out or scores runs,
then it’s considered as first bouncer and its considered as a legal delivery.
Also batsman would be declared out or scored runs would be counted
respectively.
4. Free hit is allowed for all No balls (all foot no-balls, above waist no-balls, no
balls due to fielding restriction or some other reason)
5. Foot no –ball can be called on following conditions
a. If the bowler bowls without some part of the front foot either grounded
[first grounding point] or in the air behind the popping crease
b. If the bowler back foot touches or crosses the return crease.
6. No-ball could also be called,
a. If the bowler bowls more than one bouncer per over
b. Any delivery, which passes or would have passed on the full above waist
height of the striker standing upright at the crease
c. In case if a bowler chucks during his action of bowling after legal warning
from umpire.
d. If field restriction rules are not followed as per the guidelines
e. If the bowler starts the over/ changes the side of the wicket from which he
bowls without telling the guard to the umpire.
7. Chucking is strictly not allowed and if batsman at strikers or non-strikers end
appeals against the action it’s left to the on field umpires to analyse the action
and if they find a problem they could warn the bowler. If the bowler
continues with the same action umpires can call a no-ball with free hit in the
next delivery
8. All the other ICC cricket rules are applicable as it is.
9. Length of the Pitch: Pitch length would be of 19 metres wicket to wicket.
10. Boundary : 51 metres from middle of the pitch
11. There will be change in bowling end after 4 overs. (1st 4 overs bowling from
one end and next 4 overs bowling from another end) at any circumstances
Judging a Wide:
If the Bowler bowls the ball so high over or so wide of the wicket that, in the
opinion of the Umpire it passes out of reach of the Striker, standing in a
normal guard position, the Umpire shall call and signal "wide ball" as soon as
it has passed the line of the Striker's wicket.
The Umpire shall not adjudge a ball as being a wide if:
a. The Striker, by moving from his guard position, causes the ball to pass out
of his reach provided ball is within the identified wide line.
b. The Striker moves and thus brings the ball within his reach
c. If the Striker switches the Batting Guard before ball is delivered and ball is
within the identified wide line considering both the sides of wicket as off side
Fielding Rules:
1. Maximum of 5 fielders are only allowed in on – side field at any stage of the
game. [Including Bowler: if bowler bowls around the wicket]
2. If batsman during the course of backing up leaves the popping crease before
the ball is delivered, he could be run out by bowler after giving one warning.
3. If the player is absent from the field for longer than 2 over, the player shall
not be permitted to bowl in that innings after his return until he has been on
the field for at least the number of overs for which he was absent.
4. Minimum 4 fielders should remain within the fielding restriction area
throughout the innings.
SUMMARY: LEAGUE / KNOCK-OUT MATCHES: PLAYING
CONDITIONS
1. All the matches shall be played on league cum knock-out basis with 8 overs
per side unless all out earlier. A new Vicky Green Tennis Ball shall be given
for each innings.
2. Each participating team shall submit a list of 14 players and the same shall
not be changed thereafter.
3. The teams should report to the organisers at least 20 minutes before the
scheduled start of the match for submit players and playing 11 list and toss.
Otherwise, the team / s shall be disqualified from participating in the match.
4. 4 bowlers can bowl not more than 02 overs each in an innings in all matches.
If the number of overs per side are reduced, then the umpires shall decide the
number of overs per bowler.
5. If the match is delayed due to weather, bad light, ground conditions or any
other unforeseen reason, the minimum number overs to constitute a match
shall not be less than 04 overs per side to be decided by the umpires.
6. Throwing by the bowler is not allowed and action shall be taken by the
umpires leading to suspension for further bowling in the match and the
bowler shall not bowl in the tournament.
7. There shall not be more than 5 fieldsmen on the on-side at the instant of
delivery throughout the innings. Otherwise, either Umpire shall call and
signal No Ball. [Including bowler if bowler bowls around the wicket]
8. In addition to the fielding restriction mentioned in 7 above, only TWO
fieldsmen shall be permitted outside the fielding restriction area marked at
the instant of delivery for first 02 overs in all the league, SF matches and in
finals. In case the match is played by reducing the overs, then the Umpires
shall decide on the number of overs for the fielding restriction. Also,
minimum 04 fielders should remain within the fielding restriction area
throughout the innings.
9. One team from each group with highest number of points shall qualify for the
knock-out stage and if the points are equal, the team with better NRR will be
placed higher
10. There will be change in bowling end after 4 overs. (1st 4 overs bowling from
one end and next 4 overs bowling from another end) at any circumstances
11. Selection of bowling end is the discretion of bowling team.
Result:
a. The side which has scored in its innings a total of runs more than that
scored, by the opposite side in its completed innings shall win the match.
Points for a win 2 points, loss 0 and for tie 01 point for both teams.
b. The result of the match shall be a tie when the scores are equal at the
conclusion of play but only if the side batting last has completed its innings.
The winner shall be decided by super over.
c. If the match is abandoned due to weather, bad light, ground conditions or
any other reason, the winner shall be the one with better run rate, provided
team batting second has batted for minimum 04 overs. Otherwise, the result
of match shall be tie including Finals
d. If both teams do not get opportunity to play at least the minimum number
of overs, then the match is abandoned, and the result of the match shall be
draw during league stage and the knock-out matches are decided by spin of
coin in the presence of umpires.
e. In league stages if two teams are tied with same points, NRR would be
taken into account and the team which has a better NRR would move to the
knockout stage.
