Discovery 3: Lab - View Maps, Topologies, and Circuits: Time For A Lab Activity!
Introduction
Complete this lab exercise to practice what you learned in the “Viewing Network Topologies” section of this course.
In this activity you will explore network maps, topologies, and circuits.
Lab Topology
Task 1: View Network Maps
The purpose of this task is to view the maps and understand the data that they provide.
Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1
From the jump host, open the Google Chrome web browser and click the Cisco EPN Manager bookmark
(https://epnm-40.lab.local) on the toolbar to access your Cisco EPN Manager server.
Step 2
Log in as user root with the password Pass1234.
Step 3
From the menu, choose Maps > Topology Maps > Network Topology.
A high-level map is displayed (unless it was visited before and modified), showing the configured locations
(building icons). If it is not displayed, click Device Groups in the upper left, and make sure that all locations are
selected. Click Load.
Step 4
Click the Unassigned location and choose Expand Group.
Step 5
Click the expanded group and choose Collapse Group.
Step 6
Click the Unassigned location and choose Drill Down Group.
Step 7
Click a device to see details about the device.
Step 8
Click a link to see what the line represents.
Notice that, in the link table next to the link name, is an information icon that launches a 360° view for the link.
Step 9
Notice that the left pane has three icons (acting like tabs) that you can click for viewing alarms, circuits and VCs,
and links.
Step 10
To move a device to a new location on the map, click and hold down the mouse button and drag the device.
Practice arranging the tcc devices.
Step 11
Find the Layout icon drop-down menu, and choose the various automatic layouts.
Step 12
When you find a layout that you like, click the Layout icon and select User Layout > Save to save the map.
Step 13
Click Show and then click Links to change the information displayed on a map. Turn the link types on and off to
see how the map changes.
Step 14
In the left pane, click the Links icon and select one of the listed links. Notice that the link is highlighted on the
map.
Step 15
To add a predefined image to your map, click the Add Background Image icon.
Step 16
From the Background Image drop-down menu, choose Predefined and choose an image.
Step 17
Click Apply.
Step 18
Practice moving the devices around to fit the map.
Step 19
Click the Bandwidth Utilization icon (the colored square at the top right of the map). Click the ? icon to view the
utilization key.
Note: Bandwidth utilization can be enabled or disabled by checking or unchecking the Utilization check box.
Step 20
Click the World icon in the upper right to open the geographical map.
Step 21
From the toolbar, click Show and click Device Families. Make sure that both Routers and Optical Networking
families are selected and click OK.
Step 22
From the toolbar, click Unmapped Devices.
Step 23
To put unmapped devices on the map, drag devices from the Unmapped Devices table onto the map. Note:
Devices with Lat/Long information added in Civic Location will already be displayed.
Step 24

You have viewed maps and the information within them.
Activity Procedure
Complete these steps:
Step 1
From the Network Topology map, in the left pane, click the Circuits/VCs icon.
Step 2
A list of all the circuits that relate to the current map view are displayed. A number of circuits are provisioned.
Locate the EVPL circuit by entering EVPL in the Circuit Name filter box.
Step 3
To view more information about the circuit, click the circuit name. The Circuit-VC Details page opens. Notice the
discovery state, serviceability state, and endpoint details.
Step 4
Close the Circuit-VC Details page.
Step 5
To view the EVPL circuit overlaid on the map, click the radio button to the left of the circuit name and state icon.
Step 6
Notice that the endpoints of the circuits are highlighted and that all other devices are dimmed.
Step 7
