Course Introduction
Course Introduction
The IGCSE Physics course revisits and builds up on your prior knowledge, which it extends in
depth and breadth. When you master the course, you will be able to solve problems and
understand unfamiliar subject-related material. We trust that working through this course
will be interesting, educational and informative.
At first, tackling this course may seem overwhelming. In order to make the best of the
programme, it is best to first familiarise yourself with how this course is structured.

Course overview
Please take some time to read this introduction to the course, as it covers several aspects
that will be of help to you working forward.
This CambriLearn course has been developed to support the Cambridge syllabus for IGCSE
Physics, for the examination in 2025–2028.
Recommended textbook
The textbook below is endorsed by Cambridge to support the syllabus for the examination in
2025–2028.
Third edition.

You may find some sections harder or easier than others. Give yourself enough time to study.
If you understand, you will enjoy it. If you don’t, ASK!
Make sure to gain a deep understanding of the concepts. Your teachers, tutors and resources
are there to help, use them…
If you move faster through some topics, for whatever reason, you are welcome to move
ahead of the schedule. Just make sure that you are only moving forward because you are
comfortable with the work and understand it.
Practice Assignments
There are six practice assignments throughout the course. These are there to prepare you for
the marked assignments. Before you attempt the assignments, do the practice assignments.
The memo for these assignments will also be available for you to mark your own practice
assignment and ensure that you are ready to submit the actual assignment.
Assignments
There are six assignments for this course, covering a total of 400 marks.
They are found at the end of certain sections and addressing a reasonable amount of content,
as indicated by the chapters below.
• Electrical quantities
• Electric circuits
Assignment 6 36A • Electromagnetic forces 20, 21 & 22, 23, 24, 70
• Electromagnetic 25
induction
• The nuclear atom
• Radioactivity
• Earth and the Solar
System
• Stars and the Universe
The assignments have been compiled from past papers, so they are good revision at the
appropriate standard to prepare you for your final exams. Therefore, it would be beneficial
if assignments are written under exam conditions.
The assignments should be completed by you (the student) and then returned for
assessment.
Treat each assignment seriously as a test of your knowledge for a particular section. If there
are questions you do not know the answer to, study your textbook and do extra research to
find solutions.
The feedback you get for the assignments should be a useful indication of the level you are
at with your work. An external view can sometimes be helpful as it is not always easy to see
for oneself if learning and preparation are adequate.
Mid-course test
Following week 15 of the course and after completion of your second assignment, you will
write a mid-course test on topics covered thus far. This is a one-hour test for 50 marks, and
will be written under exam conditions with invigilation from a parent, guardian or tutor.
Mock exam
In week 36, i.e. at the end of your course, you will write a mock exam consisting of the
following:
Although the mock exam is assigned to be written during week 36 of your course, you can
choose to write it during any time in your course.
A number of past question papers and mark schemes have been added after week 36, for
easy access. Use them to practise answering different questions.

“Candidates who have studied the Extended subject content (Core and Supplement), should
be entered for Paper 2, Paper 4 and either Paper 5 or Paper 6. These candidates will be
eligible for grades A* to G.”
Therefore, you are expected to work and complete assignments, tests and mock exams
independently, preferably under exam conditions, so that you really test yourself (rather than
fool yourself… by copying…).

Bulk Submissions:
It is suggested that assignments be completed one at a time! This is to ensure that you get
the most benefit from the feedback you receive once it has been marked. PLEASE ensure that
you gain the most benefit by uploading a completed assignment, reading the comments on
the assessed document and working through any corrections BEFORE uploading the next.
There is a 7-day turn-around time for the marking of each assignment or test.
