You are taking a big step forward in your educational career and are about to get started on
something that will have a large impact on your future.

The IGCSE Physics course revisits and builds up on your prior knowledge, which it extends in
depth and breadth. When you master the course, you will be able to solve problems and
understand unfamiliar subject-related material. We trust that working through this course
will be interesting, educational and informative.

If you are new to online or home study, the main

challenges that you will be facing are the following:

1. Reading and making sense of all the

information presented to you.
2. Drawing up a workable schedule to make the
best use of your time.
3. Sticking to said schedule.

At first, tackling this course may seem overwhelming. In order to make the best of the
programme, it is best to first familiarise yourself with how this course is structured.

Course overview
Please take some time to read this introduction to the course, as it covers several aspects
that will be of help to you working forward.

This CambriLearn course has been developed to support the Cambridge syllabus for IGCSE
Physics, for the examination in 2025–2028.

Structure of the course

The course has been structured with 36 learning weeks.

Each learning week consists of an introduction and three

lessons. The introduction maps the online lessons to the
textbook and to the syllabus. It outlines work that should
be completed in a given week in terms lessons, exercises
and questions. Each syllabus topic will be covered within
two to three weeks, with a few exceptions. The lessons
were designed to give a holistic view of each topic, to
enhance deep understanding and to help you develop
higher order thinking skills.

Throughout the course you will see the following symbol:

* KEY EQUATION
This shows equations that you are expected to know for your exams. It may be useful to have
a specific page in your notebook where you write these equations so that when it comes to
studying, they are all together.

Guided learning hours

According to the CAIE, an estimated 180 learning hours should be necessary to achieve the
qualification. This translates to approximately 5 hours per week. Of course, this is just a
guideline, and you may need to put in more study hours.

You may find some sections harder or easier than others. Give yourself enough time to study.
If you understand, you will enjoy it. If you don’t, ASK!

Make sure to gain a deep understanding of the concepts. Your teachers, tutors and resources
are there to help, use them…

It is easier to understand than to memorise!

If you move faster through some topics, for whatever reason, you are welcome to move
ahead of the schedule. Just make sure that you are only moving forward because you are
comfortable with the work and understand it.

Practice Assignments
There are six practice assignments throughout the course. These are there to prepare you for
the marked assignments. Before you attempt the assignments, do the practice assignments.
The memo for these assignments will also be available for you to mark your own practice
assignment and ensure that you are ready to submit the actual assignment.

Assignments
There are six assignments for this course, covering a total of 400 marks.
They are found at the end of certain sections and addressing a reasonable amount of content,
as indicated by the chapters below.

Week Topics covered Chapters covered Marks

Assignment 1 6A • Making measurements 1 (measuring), 2, 3, 70
• Describing motion 4
• Forces and motion
• Turning effects of forces
Assignment 2 13A • Forces and matter 1 (density), 5, 6, 7, 70
• Energy transformations 8
and transfers
• Energy resources
• Work and power
Assignment 3 19A • The kinetic model of 9, 10, 11 50
matter
• Thermal properties of
matter
• Thermal energy transfers
Assignment 4 25A • Sound 12, 13, 14, 15 70
• Light
• Properties of waves

Assignment 6 36A • Electromagnetic forces 20, 21 & 22, 23, 24, 70
• Electromagnetic 25
induction
• The nuclear atom
• Radioactivity
• Earth and the Solar
System

Try to complete each assignment in the week it is given.

The assignments have been compiled from past papers, so they are good revision at the
appropriate standard to prepare you for your final exams. Therefore, it would be beneficial
if assignments are written under exam conditions.

The assignments should be completed by you (the student) and then returned for
assessment.

Treat each assignment seriously as a test of your knowledge for a particular section. If there
are questions you do not know the answer to, study your textbook and do extra research to
find solutions.

The feedback you get for the assignments should be a useful indication of the level you are
at with your work. An external view can sometimes be helpful as it is not always easy to see
for oneself if learning and preparation are adequate.

Mid-course test
Following week 15 of the course and after completion of your second assignment, you will
write a mid-course test on topics covered thus far. This is a one-hour test for 50 marks, and
will be written under exam conditions with invigilation from a parent, guardian or tutor.

question paper provided.

Although the mock exam is assigned to be written during week 36 of your course, you can
choose to write it during any time in your course.

A number of past question papers and mark schemes have been added after week 36, for
easy access. Use them to practise answering different questions.

General CambriLearn rules

Completing work:

It is essential that you complete all the assignments and

test/s that form part of the CambriLearn course. They are
based on past paper questions and are marked in the same
way in which they will be marked by Cambridge. Please
remember that these marks do NOT count toward your final
Cambridge mark. The only mark that will appear on your
Cambridge certificate is the mark achieved for the final
exam that will be written at an independent Cambridge
examination centre.

Therefore, you are expected to work and complete assignments, tests and mock exams
independently, preferably under exam conditions, so that you really test yourself (rather than
fool yourself… by copying…).

Plagiarism:

According to the Rules and Procedures Document,

plagiarism is not allowed! This refers specifically to
copying of memos you might find on the Internet or
copying someone else’s work.

Bulk Submissions:

It is suggested that assignments be completed one at a time! This is to ensure that you get
the most benefit from the feedback you receive once it has been marked. PLEASE ensure that
you gain the most benefit by uploading a completed assignment, reading the comments on
the assessed document and working through any corrections BEFORE uploading the next.

There is a 7-day turn-around time for the marking of each assignment or test.

If at any time you don’t understand what to do, or at any point you have questions, don’t
hesitate to contact CambriLearn. If you are a premium student, you can always ask your
teachers. You might feel like it sometimes, but you are not alone, at all times, one way or
another, advice and support of our staff is a resource that is available to you.
