CHAPTER 2: REVIEW OF WEBSITE
2.1 Introduction of websites

Hamrobazar started as a hobby site when Prabal Saakha, managing director of the
company, was attempting to sell his phone at a good price. He had scoured the city to
get buyers for his used set, and when he’d finally found a storekeeper who was willing
to help him, what followed enraged him. For one, he was taken aback by the
ridiculously low price he was offered in exchange, and two, he had to leave the phone
in the storekeeper’s care—for a month or so until it was sold—without recouping a
penny. That was how such sales were conducted in Nepal in those days. Frustrated, he
thought about resorting to online-market sites, but to his dismay, Nepal did not have
such portals.

Hamrobazar.com is free online classified which enables individuals as well as

companies to sell wide variety of new or used product online. Hamrobazar is visited
by around 50,000 unique visitors who use the site for buying and selling purpose.
Compared to newspaper classifieds, hamrobazar.com will provide more
comprehensive detail and pictures thus enabling consumer to choose better.
Hamrobazar.com has created such platform where both seller and buyers can interact
with each other Mission Statement and stated goals of hamrobazar.com
Hamrobazar.com does not appear to have a predetermined mission statement,
nevertheless, the basic mission and goals of the Company is to provide a perfect
solution for selling the products for free. It also believes that internet is a great
promotional vehicle as well as communication channel for connecting buyers and
sellers. In general, hamrobazar.com has communicated that its mission is to influence
technology and potential to provide the best buying experience on the Internet for
free.

Hamrobazar has now moved its primary focus to implementing the business-
tobusiness and the business-to-consumer models. This move also reflects the
company’s aim to involve every business house possible. The team also provides
guidance to any wholesaler or retailer on how they can expand their businesses by
advertising through them. In the initial years, quite a few sellers misunderstood what
the platform was attempting to do. Many thought Hamrobazar itself was the trader or
dealer of the products on their website. And some people who didn’t like the deals
they made would blame the portal team for their bad experience, when Hamrobazar is
4
not liable for anything that happens between buyer and seller. But now, such notions
about the company have changed.

Hamrobazar generates revenue mainly from site traffic. Initially, the site didn’t allow
third-party ads because he was worried that third-party links would divert traffic away
from their site to other sites. But in order to monetize the site, they have had to
compromise and have recently resorted to featuring third-party ads.

Future Plan

Hamrobazar is still a developing concept, but there are already lots of businesses that
rely on Hamrobazar to conduct transactions. The company wants to grow, but not in a
manner that is unmanageable. In 2014, the company tried venturing into e-commerce,
but the competition was so fierce that they had to abandon the project.

Hamrobazar believes the country’s economic development depends on the strength of

its communication and information technology. Hamrobazar has added to that
development. But also exceedingly humble about what has achieved: Hamrobazar no
pioneers in this field.

5
2.1.1 E-commerce business model

Hamrobazar has consumer to consumer e-commerce (C2C) business model. C2C e-

commerce is a type of trade relations where both sellers and buyers are consumers, not
businesses. It presupposes interaction between parties through a third one, mostly an
online auction or trade website. Due to this phenomenon, selling and buying via the
Internet has never been so easy. Various internet resources help sellers and buyers to
find each other by charging a small fee or commission.

Everything is simple vendors sell their products on the site and buyers purchase what
they want. C2C websites benefit from commission fees for listing goods that are
normally paid for by the seller. Transactions are made through online payment
systems. E-commerce websites are only intermediaries and are not liable for product
quality, payment security or refunds.

2.1.2 SWOT ANALYSIS

Most of the time we see that the use of electronic techniques for doing business add
value either by the reducing transaction cost or by creating some type of network
effect, or by a combination of both. In SWOT analysis (the acronym is short for
Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats), here we try to find out the
strengths and weaknesses of ecommerce in respect of Nepalese business environment.
Then after we try to identify opportunities presented by that environment and the
threats posed by that environment. As shown in the following figure which shows the
questions that an analyst would ask in conducting a SWOT analysis.

Strength

➢ Engages customers with the "Instant Buy" capabilities.

6
➢ Creates a strong link between marketing and sale statistics.
➢ Enables pricing, availability etc to responding directly and instantly to market
pleasure.

➢ Reduces the cost of rolling out new products.

➢ Increase customer's engagements. ➢ Creates strong drive add-on sales.
Weakness

➢ Entering the online market requires you to be competitive and have the highest
level of customers service in place
➢ Reviews and negative comments can spread quickly and damages customer
brand
➢ Cost of entry can be high.
➢ Doing its poorly can be worse that not doing all the time
➢ Physical products can be available but lack in personal services which are
intangible

Opportunities

➢ New customer information can be used to identify and exploit new markets.
➢ Responsive marketing and sales can be used to identify and exploit new
markets.
➢ Integration with back end system can improve transaction turn around and
increased productivity.

➢ Automated processing and system can keep customer well defined

Threats

➢ Customers now a days are always in a search of innovative products and

technique.

➢ There is no direct interaction between customer and the seller and no scope of
bargaining.

➢ Persons using unfair means to operate ecommerce can damage the confidence

and faith of common people.

7
2.1.3 Service Offered

Hamrobazar has offered different of second hand product as well as new products to
the customer with different range of price like furniture, automobile, beauty and
health care, books and learning, computers, music instruments and more other
products. Hamrobazar offered service in a single roof of house so, Shopping in
physical shop is hard as different product cannot be found in single shop. We have to
travel to different place in the other shop for the variety of product. Hamrobazar has
developed an easier platform for customer to buy all the product through online
shopping. Hamrobazar has target to all class family so all can consumed.

Hamrobazar is the ultimate online shopping solution to customer. Hamrobazar provide

the unique digital market platform where sellers and buyers can interact on single stop
of online shopping. Hamrobazar is the pioneers of platform businesses in Nepal. Each
of them has allowed Nepali people to explore and exchange goods and services more
conveniently Hamrobazar with secondhand goods. Hamrobazar is the leading online

list of deals to be made on the site just keeps on expanding.

normal day by day sales count on hamrobazar is 2500+

2.2.2 Content and Catalogue Management

Hamrobazar site was displaying around 19,000 classified ads, displaying goods that
ranged from automobiles to apparels, and even jobs, events and pets. The site gets
315,000 unique hits a month. The total number of hits exceeds 600,000. The site does
not charge its users, even services like computer generated featured ads are free
9
addons. Therefore advertisements have to generate most of the revenue for the site.
The growth has also called for increased number of team members, adding to the
expenses of the company. HamroBazar was never about making money. That’s why it
has been
free from the start, and we intend to keep it that way. And I don’t think one can
measure success in terms of money.

says Saakha adding, “We could have made money from the site by introducing plug-
ins and buy options, but we thought that would dilute the site, and we want to keep it
simple.” However, he does have a plan to monetize the popularity of his site. Keeping
Hamrobazar’s USP intact, he is working on other sites that use the network of

options,” says Saakha.

Considering the current volume of internet marketing business, it’s hard to believe
how young the internet marketplace is. While the timeline of internet marketing has
been short, the cumulative events leading up to where we are now have impacted the
entire globe faster than any marketing revolution in history. Today, it’s hard to believe
in having an organization which doesn’t have some kind of online presence. When the

exchanging emails and digital information, but wasn’t yet considered valuable for
