]PEACEMAKER HONOR

Here's a response to the AY Pathfinder honor "Peace Maker" based on the

provided image:

1. Define conflict and discuss the difference between good and bad conflict.

 Conflict is a disagreement or clash between two or more people or

groups. It can be caused by differences in opinions, beliefs, values, or
goals.

 Good conflict can lead to growth, understanding, and resolution. It can

help us learn and develop new perspectives.

 Bad conflict can be destructive and harmful. It can damage

relationships, create stress, and lead to violence.

2. Identify the 4 causes of conflict as described in the Bible. Read the

following passages for assistance:

 Acts 15:22-29: Differences in opinion about whether Gentile converts

needed to follow Jewish laws. This conflict was resolved through
discussion and compromise.

 1 Corinthians 12:12-31: The importance of unity and cooperation

within the church. This passage highlights the dangers of division and
conflict.

 Genesis 13:1-12: Conflict between Abraham and Lot over land and
resources. This conflict was resolved through negotiation and
compromise.

 James 4:1-3: The root of conflict is selfishness and worldly desires. This
passage encourages us to resist these temptations and seek God's will.

3. Identify each segment of the slippery slope of addressing conflict, and

discuss examples of each type from the Bible and your own experiences. 1

Escape - Denial: Avoiding the conflict or pretending it doesn't exist.

(Example: Ignoring a disagreement with a friend) Blame Game: Blaming
others for the conflict and refusing to take responsibility for your own
actions. (Example: Accusing your sibling of breaking your toy when you were
the one who actually broke it) Attack: Verbally or physically attacking the
other person. (Example: Yelling at your parents during an argument) Gossip:
Spreading rumors about the other person. (Example: Telling your friends that
your classmate is mean because they didn't want to play with you) Put
Downs: Making fun of or insulting the other person. (Example: Calling your
little brother names because he took your toy) Conciliation: Seeking to
reconcile with the other person. (Example: Apologizing to your friend for
saying something hurtful) Overlook: Forgiving the other person and moving
on. (Example: Forgiving your sibling for taking your toy without asking) Talk it
out: Communicating openly and honestly with the other person. (Example:
Talking to your parents about why you're upset) Negotiate: Finding a
compromise that works for both parties. (Example: Negotiating with your
sibling to share your toy)

4. Reverse role-play a conflict from your own life and identify where you are
on the "slippery slope" and what possible conciliation options you might try. 2

 Example: You get into an argument with your friend over a game. You
start to get angry and say hurtful things. You are on the attack
segment of the slippery slope.

 Possible conciliation options:

o Talk it out: Calm down and talk to your friend about what's
bothering you.

o Overlook: If your friend apologizes, forgive them and move on.

o Negotiate: Find a way to compromise and play the game in a way

that works for both of you.

Remember: The goal of conflict resolution is to find a peaceful solution that

works for everyone involved. By understanding the causes of conflict and the
different ways to address it, we can work towards building healthier and
more harmonious relationships.

TELL THE WORLD

1. Choose a character from the movie.

 William Miller

2. Why did you choose that character? At first, William Miller was a Baptist
minister who, through diligent Bible study, became convinced that the
Second Coming of Christ was imminent. His message resonated with many,
leading to a significant revival movement. I chose him because his story is a
testament to the power of biblical study and the importance of sharing one's
faith with others.

3. How will you relate yourself to the character of the movie as a modern-day
Christian of the SDA Church? While I may not have the same level of
prophetic insight as William Miller, I can relate to his passion for sharing the
Gospel and his desire to see people come to Christ. As a modern-day
Adventist, I can use the tools and resources available to me to spread the
message of hope and salvation. This could involve sharing my faith with
friends and family, participating in outreach programs, or using social media
to connect with people around the world.

4. If you will be given a chance to become one of our pioneers, on which part
of our history would you like to appear? I would love to be part of the early
Adventist movement, perhaps during the time of the Great Disappointment.
It would be fascinating to witness firsthand the spiritual awakening and the
formation of the Adventist Church. I could contribute to the movement by
sharing my faith, helping to organize meetings, and supporting the early
leaders. This period was a time of great spiritual growth and discernment,
and I believe it would be a privilege to participate in it.

Here are the answers to the Camp Safety worksheet based on the provided
image and general camping safety guidelines:

1. Why is it important to find out what the local laws are before starting a
campfire?

 Local laws can vary depending on the area you are camping in. They
may have specific regulations regarding campfire size, location, and
when they are allowed.

 To avoid fines or legal issues, it is crucial to be aware of these

restrictions.

 To protect the environment, some areas may have fire bans during dry
periods to prevent wildfires.

2. Identify 3 reasons why a campfire should never be left unattended.

1. Fire Hazard: Unattended campfires can easily spread, especially in

windy conditions, and potentially cause wildfires.

2. Accidental Injury: People or animals could accidentally bump into the

fire, causing burns or other injuries.

3. Property Damage: Uncontrolled fires can damage surrounding

vegetation, campsites, and nearby structures.

3. List 10 rules for fire safety to consider when camping.

1. Choose a safe location: Build your campfire away from trees,

overhanging branches, and dry grass.
2. Clear the area: Remove any flammable materials, such as leaves,
twigs, and pine needles, from around the fire pit.

3. Only use dry wood: Wet wood will produce more smoke and be less
efficient.

4. Never leave a campfire unattended: Always have someone monitoring

the fire.

5. Keep the fire small: A small fire is easier to control and less likely to
spread.

6. Extinguish the fire completely: Drown the fire with water, stir the
ashes, and repeat until everything is cold to the touch.

7. Have a shovel and water nearby: Use these to contain and extinguish
the fire if necessary.

8. Never use gasoline or other flammable liquids: These can cause

dangerous flare-ups.

9. Be aware of wind direction: Position your campfire so that the wind

blows away from your tent or campsite.

10. Check local fire restrictions: Be aware of any fire bans or

restrictions in the area.

4. Identify the temperature the following foods should be kept at, and explain
why this is important when camping:

 Hot foods:1 Above 140°F (60°C) to prevent bacterial growth.

 Cold foods: Below 40°F (4°C) to slow down bacterial growth.

5. List 5 things you can do to prevent animals from coming into your
campsite:

1. Store food properly: Store food in airtight containers and keep it away
from your tent.

2. Clean up after meals: Dispose of food scraps in bear-proof containers

or pack them out.

3. Cook away from your campsite: This will reduce the smell of food,
which can attract animals.

4. Use bear-resistant food storage containers: These are specially

designed to keep animals out.
5. Camp in designated campsites: These areas are often less attractive to
animals.

6. What safety precautions should you consider when building a latrine?

 Choose a suitable location: Dig the latrine at least 200 feet away from
water sources and campsites.

 Dig the hole deep enough: The hole should be at least 8 inches deep to
prevent animals from digging up the waste.

 Line the hole with a plastic bag: This will help to contain the waste and
prevent odors.

 Cover the waste with dirt: After each use, cover the waste with dirt to
prevent animals from accessing it.

 Pack out all toilet paper: Never burn or bury toilet paper.

If you have any more questions or specific scenarios you'd like to discuss,
feel free to ask!
