EEG351 TUTORIAL 2024 MARCH

(1) Explain the principles electromechanical energy conversion.

(2) Describe the processes of predetermination of efficiency and regulation in transformer with relevant
diagrams and instruments.

(3)A10 KVA , 800 /400 V ,50 Hz , single phase transformer gave the following readings.
Open circuit test: 500 V ,1 A , 50 W , (L.V side open).

Short circuit test: 25 V ,10 A , 6 W (L.V side shorted).

Determine; (i) The efficiency on full load, 0.8lagging power factor (ii) The voltage regulation on full
load, 0.8leading power factor (iii) The efficiency on 80% of full load, 0.8leading power factor (iv) Draw
the equivalent circuit referred to primary and inserts all the value in it.

(4) Explain a practical transformer on load with phase components of different load features and
significant equations.

(5) Proof that E1=N 1 x 4.44 f ϕ m and E2=N 2 x 4.44 f ϕ m where E1 and E2 are R.M.S. values of the
primary and secondary induced e.m.f of transformer respectively.

(6) List various equations involved in the transformation ratio and there implications

(7) A 4KVA, 200/400V, 50Hz single phase transformer has equivalent resistance referred to primary as
0.15Ω. Calculate, (i) The total copper losses on full load (ii) The efficiency while supplying full load at
0.9 p.f lagging (iii) The efficiency while supplying half load at 0.8 p.f leading. Assume total iron losses
equal to 60w.

(8) A direct current motor runs at a speed of 800rpm on no load taking a current of 6A from the supply,
when connected to 240V direct current supply. Its full load current is 40A. Calculate the speed on full
load. If armature resistance is 0.3Ω and shunt field resistance is 120Ω and draw the circuit.

(10) What are necessities for generation action, the physical principles that govern the act?

(12) Explain the difference between static machine and electromechanical devices

(13) An eight- pole armature is wound with 460 conductors. The average e.m.f generated in each
conductor is 1.1Vand each conductor is capable of carrying a full current of 65A.Calculate the terminal
voltage on no load, the output current on full load and the total power generated on full load when the
armature is (a) lap-connected and (b) wave-connected

(14) Compare an ideal transformer with a practical transformer.

(15) A 4pole, lap wound motor has 270conductors, its speed is found to be 500rpm when it is made to run
light. The flux per pole is 25mWb. It is connected to 230vd.c supply. The armature resistance is 0.8Ω
calculate. (i)Induced e.m.f (ii) Armature current (iii) stay losses (iv) loss torque.

(16)Explain the significant of the following in electromechanical devices

(i) Commutator. (ii) Commutation (iii) Lap winding (iv) Wave winding (v) Coil lamination
(vi) Armature (vii) Poles (viii) Pole pitch (ix) Coil (x) Conductors (xi) Transformation ratio (xii) Turns

(17) State the torque types in direct current machine and show their relationship.

(18) Illustrate the symbolic and basic transformer
