Step-by-Step Process for Installing Kali Linux on VirtualBox

Step 1: Create a New Virtual Machine

1. Open VirtualBox.
2. Click the New button to add a new operating system.
3. Name the machine Kali Linux.
4. Upload the Kali Linux ISO file that you downloaded.

Step 2: Configure the Virtual Machine

1. Memory:
○ Set the memory to the default value of 2048 MB (2 GB).
2. Processor:
○ Increase the processor count to 2 CPUs.

Step 3: Create a Virtual Hard Disk

1. Choose to create a new virtual hard disk.


2. Set the disk size to 25 GB.
3. Complete the configuration for the virtual machine.

Step 4: Adjust Virtual Machine Settings

1. Video Memory:
○ Increase the video memory to 128 MB for better graphical performance.
2. Starting Screen Size:
○ Adjust the display settings to increase the starting screen size for a better visual
experience.

Step 5: Start the Virtual Machine

1. Start the virtual machine.


2. On the boot menu, press Enter to select Graphical Install.
Step 6: Installation Process

1. Language:
○ Select your preferred language.
2. Location:
○ Choose your current location.
3. Keyboard:
○ Configure the keyboard language.

Step 7: Configure the Network

1. Hostname:
○ Enter a hostname (e.g., Axel).

○ Leave the domain name field blank.

Step 8: Set Up Users and Passwords

1. Full Name:
○ Enter your full name.
2. Username:
○ Create a username (e.g., axel).
3. Password:
○ Set and confirm your password.

Step 9: Configure the Clock

● The clock configuration is automated based on the information entered earlier.

Step 10: Partition the Disk

1. Select Guided - Use Entire Disk to let the installer automatically partition the virtual
hard disk.
2. Choose All files in one partition to simplify the file system structure.
3. Finish the partitioning process and confirm by selecting Yes to write the changes to disk.
Step 11: Install the Base System

● The system will now install the base system files.

Step 12: Install the Desktop Environment

1. Select the default desktop environment.


2. Continue with the installation.

Step 13: Install Additional Software

● The software installation process will begin. This may take some time.

Step 14: Install GRUB Bootloader

1. Select Yes to install the GRUB bootloader, which ensures the system can locate and
load the Linux kernel during startup.
2. Choose the appropriate virtual disk (e.g., /dev/sda).

Step 15: Final Steps

1. Reboot the virtual machine after the GRUB installation.


2. Log in using the username and password you created earlier.

Step 16: Start Kali Linux

● Once logged in, you’ll see the Kali Linux desktop. The installation is now complete!
