• Faith in Totalitarian rule (Dictatorship).


• To despise democratic political system.
• State is supreme and could suppress Fundamental rights and freedom of individuals.
• To uphold one party- one leader.
• Believed in Aggressive Nationalism and Imperialism.
• Extol war, believed in Aggressive Foreign policy.
• Anti-communist, anti-socialist, anti-democratic.

Q3. Explain the consequences of the Second World War with reference to the Cold War.

• The United States and Russia emerged as great powers in the world. The entire world
seemed to be divided into two Power Blocs and this led to the emergence of Cold War
between the Western powers led by USA and the Communist Bloc led by Russia.
• Cold War is a state of extreme political unfriendliness between two or more countries,
although they do not fight each other. It was’’ a condition of uneasy peace’’.
• Cold War set in motion a mad race for armaments.
• It also led to the formation of various military alliances such as NATO or North Atlantic
Treaty Organisation under US leadership and the Warsaw Pact signed by the
representatives of Russia and other Communist countries.

Q4. Explain the consequences of the war with reference to the defeat of the Axis Powers.

• The allied forces recaptured African territories lost by France.


• This was followed by their victory over Italy. The allied powers forced Italy to make an
unconditional surrender and send an armistice.
• In 1945 the allied forced moved across the Rhine and defeated the German forces.
• The allied powers turned their attention towards Japan. The British forces liberated Malaya,
Myanmar, Singapore and Philippines.
• In the Potsdam Conference Japan was asked to surrender, but did not.
• America dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Japan offered
to surrender and the war came to an end. At the end of the war Germany was divided into
four zones. Japan and Italy became weak. The American army was to occupy Japan till
1952.
Q5. Explain the consequences of the war with reference to the formation of the United Nations.

• The horrors of the two world wars.


• The failure of the League of Nations led to a meeting of the big three - Roosevelt, President
of the USA, Churchill, Prime Minister of England and Stalin, Premier of the USSR at Yalta in
February 1945.
• They resolved to convene a conference of the representatives of all the nations at San Francisco
to draw up 'Charter of the United Nations'. The UNO was thus established on October 24, 1945.
