LEARNING ACTIVITY SHEET

Illustrating Addition as “Putting Together or
Combining or Joining Sets

I. Introduction

This lesson is about the first fundamental operation of

numbers, the addition. To be able to succeed, you should be wise in
the counting numbers.
Addition can be shown by combining sets or group of things.
The numbers are called addends. The + is the symbol used in
addition. The answer in addition is called sum. The = is the symbol
that shows that the 2 sets are the same or equal.

Addition With the Combining Sets:

The addition can be shown through combining numbers. For
example, if the number three is combined with number 4, the
equivalent is: 3 + 4 = 7
This means when the two numbers or addends are combined,
you can get the sum or answer to the addition. The numbers 3 and
4 are called addends. This shows how many numbers are
combined. The number The number 7 is the answer to the addition
is called the sum.
Example:
addends

3 + 4 = 7 sum
Here are some other illustrations of adding the sets or groups

and

Number Sentence: 3 + 5
When we combine the apples in the 2 sets, we can get 8.
Therefore, 3+5=8
