sl st slip stitch
The pattern is: single crochet in 1 stitch, then increase
stitch in the next stitch. Because an increase is actually
2 single crochet stitches in the same stitch of the
previous round, the total number of stitches in this
round is 18.

SWORD BLADE Thread a needle with the tail; then use it to whip
stitch both sides together:

CROSSGAURD
With blue yarn.

Step 1.

Create a slip knot and insert the loop into the hook.

Step 2.

Insert the hook into the fourth chain of the piece
where the right side of the crossguard will be, hold
the working yarn so that it’s behind the piece, and
yarn over.

Step 3.

Create a sl st by pulling the working yarn through
the hole it just went into and through the first loop
on the hook.

Step 4. 

Insert the hook into the hole on the opposite side
of the blade where the left side of the crossguard
will be, and sl st.

Step 5.

Ch 3.

Step 6.

Sl st in the second ch from the hook, sl st.

Step 7.

Sl st into the same hole as step 4.

Step 8.

Sl st into the same hole as step 3.

Step 9.

Repeat steps 5-6 to create the other side of the
crossguard.

Step 10.

Invisible fasten off to the first V of the slip stitch
join, leaving a long tail. Hide the tails into the
piece.
