Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura will

By the end of this Business Statistics / Social Statistics / Information Technology degree program, graduates

8. Rationale
This course is designed to provide an introductory knowledge in principles of management. It aims to provide a
comprehensive understanding on the key facets of an organisation, its environment, and the process of
Management. Along with an introduction to historical evolution of Management, the Course will facilitate
participants to gain a basic knowledge of the concepts, models, and theoretical foundations of Management.

9 Main Objective of the Course Unit


1. To provide a comprehensive understanding to the key elements of the Organisation, its environment and
main functional areas of management.
2. To develop a foundation of knowledge on the different theoretical approaches to management and decision
making.

On completion of this course unit, students should be able to:
1. understand the nature of organisations and management, different approaches, concepts, and frameworks
to management.
