COURSE OUTLINE

Principles of Management

Instructor: Hamid Ullah


Course Description:

Principles of Management. 3 hours credit.

This course will enable students to develop short and long-range plans to
effectively accomplish organizational goals. Through the use of terminology,
exercises and case studies, students will be able to give a critical appraisal of
real life situations involving organizing, staffing and motivating others. The
student will also learn tools to aid in problem solving, valuing diversity and
coping with change.

Course Relevance:
The principles learned in this course will allow the student to effectively work
with and through others in an organization. The principles are relevant to any
type of organization or group, empowering the student to lead others,
negotiate, embrace change and better understand the role of business in
society.

Required Materials:
 Principle of Management by Griffin
 Kreitner, R. (2004). Management (9th ed.). Boston, MA: Houghton
Mifflin.

Learning Outcomes:
The intention is for the student to be able to
1. Work as an effective team member and leader
2. Look for opportunities to work with and better understand diverse
populations
3. Use problem-solving strategies and critical thinking in real life situations
4. Approach change with enthusiasm
5. Demonstrate understanding of successful planning

Through the student involvement in this course, they will develop and

Through analysis of case studies involving real life situations, students
will demonstrate understanding of planning, communication and
motivation.

Through assignments, projects and role -plays, students will demonstrate

By analyzing modern and historical frameworks, students will recognize
different synergies and their value.

4. Problem Solving
Through assignments and discussions, students will demonstrate
problem solving skills using concepts and tools from the class.1

Through a variety of readings and discussions, students will demonstrate an
understanding of why people resist change, and create solutions to overcome
those obstacles.

Learning Activities:
Independent and collaborative learning activities will be assigned within and
outside the classroom to assist students to achieve the intended learning
outcomes. Those activities will include class discussions, reading
assignments, case studies and guest speakers.

Grade Determination:
 Mid term Exams 40 marks

 Final Exams 40 marks

 Assignment and Quizzes 20 Marks
