7.0 Backfilling Work

7.1 Work Preparation.

7.1.1 Material Handling and Storage.

 All materials shall be handled/transported/stored in an optimal way that will not cause
damage to them.
 Materials delivered shall be approved by soil laboratory.
 All materials to be stored are strictly in accordance with the requirements storage
recommendation.
 The Site Engineer shall be responsible for the off-loading and handling of the materials
on-site and shall ensure that materials delivered to the site are matching with
specifications
 All items shall be kept in a protective environment

7.1.2 Material Inspection.

For materials to be inspected after receiving at the site, the following points are to be followed:

the excavation.

7.2 Work Execution

7.2.1 Work Back filling
 After the utilities have been laid, the trench refilling is to commence with
approved fill in compacted layer not exceeding 150 mm unconsolidated
thicknesses. Each layer shall be well compacted by hand with iron rammers
weighting not less than 5 kg until the trench has been filled to a height of 300mm
above the top of utility.

 The remainder of the trench is then to be refilled in the compacted layers not
exceeding 200mm unconsolidated thickness. Each layer is well compacted, with
power rammers, vibrating plate compactors or other mechanical means of a type
to be approved until the ground is thoroughly consolidated.
 Approved Warning tape shall be installed at a depth of 500 to 600 mm from the surface
of the earth.
 . Trenches are not to be backfilled until all required test are performed on the
utilities and verified by the Engineer.

 To permit the proper consolidation of backfill into the voids behind trench sheeting
and supports, trench sheeting shall be withdrawn gradually as backfill progresses
in depth along the trench.

7.3 Work inspection.

 The consultant supervisor and the soil laboratory engineer inspect the material and the
process of backfilling layer by layer and the process includes doing the proctor test
periodically and field compaction percentage test including the sub base and base course
layers in asphalted areas.
 The supervisory authority shall receive the works according to the Inspection checklist for
backfilling.

8.0 Safety & Hazard Plan

8.1 Hazard Identification & Preventive Measures

SN. Hazard Identification Preventive Measures

1- Equipment drivers must be highly qualified and have long experience

in the field of excavation work.
2- Providing a driller to guide the driver if the work requires it.
3- Perform periodic maintenance of the equipment, ensure its safety, and

ensure that it does not make louder sounds than normal.
4-The equipment is turned off when it is supplied with fuel on site.
5- The equipment must move in specific paths and away from the trench
at a distance that protects the sides of the trench from collapse.

8.2 Protective tools to be used

Protective Equipment Description Work Required to Be Used For

Helmet All works on site

Safety Shoes All works on site

Gloves All works on site

Safety glasses All works on sites during dust and wind
