Year 6 Math Revision Sheet – Term 2

1. Coordinates and Quadrants

Key Concept: A coordinate grid is divided into four quadrants.

- Quadrant I: (+, +)

- Quadrant II: (-, +)

- Quadrant III: (-, -)

- Quadrant IV: (+, -)

Practice:

- Plot (3, -5) and (-6, 2). Identify the quadrants.

- Plot (5, 2) and (-2, -7). Identify the quadrants.

- Plot (-1, -4) and (4, 6). Identify the quadrants.

- Plot (-3, 1) and (2, -8). Identify the quadrants.

2. Ratio and Proportion

Key Concept: A ratio shows a relationship between two values. To solve

proportions, use equivalent ratios.

Practice:

- A class has boys and girls in a 5:3 ratio. If there are 24 students, how many
are boys and how many are girls?

- If a recipe requires a ratio of 4:5 for milk to flour, how much milk is needed
for 25 parts flour?
- A fruit juice mix has a ratio of 3 parts orange juice to 7 parts water. How
much orange juice is needed for 35 parts water?

- The ratio of cats to dogs in a shelter is 2:3. If there are 15 dogs, how many
cats are there?

3. Decimals and Fractions

Key Concept: Convert decimals to fractions by placing the decimal over a

power of ten.

Example: Convert 0.9 into a fraction.

0.9 = 9/10

Practice:

- Convert 0.25 into a fraction.

- Convert 1.6 into a mixed number.

- Convert 0.125 into a fraction.

- Convert 2.75 into a mixed number.

4. Division and Multiplication with Decimals

Key Concept: When dividing decimals, shift the decimal point to make the
divisor a whole number.

Example:4.2 ÷ 7 = 0.6

Practice:

- 8.4 ÷ 4 =

- 3.6 × 5 =

- 7.2 ÷ 3 =

- 5.5 × 2 =

5. Map Scales

Key Concept: A map scale represents real-world distances.

Example: A map uses a scale of 1 cm = 5 km. Find the real distance for:

- 4 cm → 4 × 5 = 20 km

- 7.5 cm → 7.5 × 5 = 37.5 km

Practice:

- If a map scale is 1 cm = 2 km, what is the real distance for 6 cm?

- If 1 cm represents 10 km, what is the real distance for 8 cm?

- A map scale is 1 cm = 3.5 km. Find the real distance for 7 cm.

- A map uses a scale where 1 cm = 4 km. How many km does 9 cm

represent?

6. Reflections and Translations

Key Concept:

- Reflection across the y-axis:Change (x, y) → (-x, y)

- Reflection across the x-axis:Change (x, y) → (x, -y)

- Translation: Move a shape in a given direction.

Practice:

- Reflect (-3,5) across the y-axis.

- Reflect (4, -2) across the x-axis.

- Translate (1,3) right 2 units and down 1 unit.

- Translate (-2, 4) left 3 units and up 2 units.

7. Solving One-Step and Two-Step Equations

Key Concept:

- One-step equations: Solve by performing the inverse operation (addition,

subtraction, multiplication, or division).

- Two-step equations: Solve by undoing addition/subtraction first, then

multiplication/division.

Example:

- Solve for x: x + 5 = 12

x = 12 - 5

x=7

- Solve for y: 3y = 21

y = 21 ÷ 3

y=7

Practice:
- Solve for x: x - 8 = 15

- Solve for y: 4y = 32

- Solve for z: 2z + 5 = 17

- Solve for w: w/3 - 4 = 2

8. Addition and Subtraction of Decimals

Key Concept: Line up decimal points when adding or subtracting.

Example: 3.245 - 1.356 = 1.889

Practice:

- 5.673 - 2.432 =

- 6.98 + 3.76 =

- 9.257 - 4.135 =

- 7.625 + 2.815 =

9. Mass and Reasoning with Decimals

Key Concept: Multiply or subtract decimals to find total or remaining values.

Example: A box contains 10 spheres, each weighing 0.32 kg.

- Total mass = 10 × 0.32 = 3.2 kg

- If 3 are removed → 7 × 0.32 = 2.24 kg

Practice:

- A basket holds 12 apples, each 0.4 kg. Find total mass.

- A bag contains 15 marbles, each 0.25 kg. Find the total mass.

- A machine produces 8.5 kg of flour every hour. How much flour is produced
in 4 hours?

- If 2.6 kg of rice is used from a 10 kg bag, how much is left?
