Everyone knows that reading is very important. Through

reading, you expose yourself to new things, new information, new ways
to solve a problem, and new ways to achieve one thing. The more you
read, the more you understand one thing. When you are reading, you are
actually gaining the knowledge and experience of someone. Through
reading, you build a more solid foundation for communication. Reading
connects everyone with the world.

Busdac Elementary School implemented its Drop Everything

And Read time, better known as DEAR time to commence Catch-Up
Fridays. It is a time set aside in the classroom schedule for both learners
and their teachers to “drop everything and read”. DEAR time
conveniently accommodates a variety of learner interests and ability
levels, since each learner select for himself/herself the book/s he/she
wishes to read. Teachers are entrusted with the responsibility of ensuring
that learners actively engage in the reading session, allowing no
interruptions during the reading session nor giving of quizzes, as DEAR
intends to develop independent silent reading among learners.

The following are the activities for the school-baed launching of

DEAR:

a. Reading of the memo to all teachers and learners during the flag raising
ceremony

b. Implementation of DEAR in the morning

c. Engaging non-teaching/volunteers to help during DEAR

These activities were followed well and DEAR time was

implemented successfully.
