Fundamental Concepts
Negative Emotions
This seems to be the starting point of the enigmatic fanbook chart, if there is one at all, which
branches off to Cursed Energy and Innate Domain. Negative emotions produce Cursed Energy,
which can eventually accumulate and ferment until it manifests as a Cursed Spirit.

Jujutsu - 呪術
Jujutsu is the use of Cursed Energy, especially through Cursed Techniques, by the manipulation
and flow of Cursed Energy within the body, or Talismans. Jujutsu can be used to exorcise
Curses, heal wounds, and combat other Jujutsu. In a sense, it is "to control a curse with a
curse".1

Translation Note: Jujutsu

呪術 jujutsu is a term for magic, not to be confused with 柔術 jiu-jitsu, the term for martial arts.2

Innate Domain - 生得領域 Shōtoku Ryōiki

(ID)
An Innate Domain is a space every human is born with, a "mental landscape" that embodies
our "inner heart,"3 e.g. Sukuna's cow skull and bone throne room. It is not a Technique that can
be used, and does not seem to be a physical (or typically accessible) location, but is a
foundation to which sorcerers can imbue their Technique to broaden its applications, such as a
Domain Expansion.
From the basis of the 'mental landscape' we can infer that different users of the same
Technique likely have similar Domain Expansions, but each with their own variations based on
the user's unique soul/self. As such, the evidence strongly suggests Megumi is the only Ten
Shadows user to create Chimera Shadow Garden, and Satoru the only Gojo to create Unlimited
Void.

Translation Note: Mind's Landscape

The Fanbook says that the ID is 人心象風景, which more or less translates to "mind's landscape,"
"scenery of your heart," or "scenery of your mind". In Japanese/Chinese the "heart" and "mind" often
roll together and overlap.4

Cursed Energy - 呪力 Juryoku

(CE)
Negative emotions from humans produce Cursed Energy. Non-sorcerers leak CE constantly as
they experience negative emotions, which can culminate in the spawning of Cursed Spirits.
Sorcerers, however, do control their CE instead of leaking it haphazardly, and can channel this
CE into a Technique in order to activate it. CE flows strongly within a sorcerer, and they
involuntarily generate CE as if generating electricity, a process I have dubbed
Auto-Replenishment.

Translation Note: Cursed Energy Auto-Regen 自己補完 Jiko Hokan

Cursed Energy consumption is stated to be automatically replenished by sorcerers in the Japanese
raws, but this is obscured by the Viz translation in a few places.5 Whenever I mentioned Cursed
Energy "Auto-Regen" in this Glossary I am referring to 自己補完, which means something like
"self/natural covery/repair".6

Sorcerers can be trained to use a spark of emotion to generate Cursed Energy efficiently.7 CE
can be used to activate a Cursed Technique, use a Talisman, heal wounds, defend the body and
soul through reinforcement, and numerous other possibilities.
For a sorcerer to use a Technique, it seems they must adjust two aspects–rotational
direction and energy type. CE can be either Positive or Negative energy, and must be rotated
forward or backward as it is channeled into a CT to activate it. Immediately before a sorcerer
activates their Cursed Technique, Cured Energy surges through them in a phenomenon called
Ignition 起こり Okori, which other sorcerers can see and use to predict whether a big move like
a Domain Expansion will be cast.8
The Reserve (or "capacity") a sorcerer has for CE is not determined by the quantity of
negative emotions, but seems to be primarily based on innate talent, including genetics, e.g.
Yuta's relation to Sugawara no Michizane; Maki's small amount of CE due to being a twin.
Additionally, not everyone with Cursed Energy has enough potential or CE to manifest an
Innate Technique. e.g. Junpei. It is possible that most humans have a dormant Innate Technique
but are unable to use it because they lack the innate talent.

Translation Note: Cursed Energy Reserve 総量 Sōryō

The word 総量 Sōryō, meaning "aggregate amount" is translated inconsistently by Viz throughout the
manga. In context, it is always paired with "Cursed Energy" so a better translation is "Cursed Energy
Reserve".9 It is the quantity of CE a sorcerer possesses.

Translation Note: Activate 発動 Hatsudō

Any time I use the word "activate" in this document it is in reference to the word 発動 Hatsudō, which
often appears in regards to Cursed Techniques but is not translated consistently. "Gege usually uses
the verb "activate" for a Cursed Technique."10

Translation Note: Ignition 起こりOkori

"Ignition" 起こり Okori can also be translated "waking up" but it is difficult to find a good English
equivalent for it.11

Cursed Energy Quality

Cursed Energy occasionally has a peculiar quality or texture, e.g. Hakari's rough,
sand-paperlike CE12; Hajime's electrically-charged CE13; and Geto's irregular CE from carrying
Curses14.

Sorcerer's Presence
Some sorcerers also have unique 'auras', like the intimidating Cursed Energies of Gojo and Yuta
respectively, Yuta's being "creepy" and “slimy” in quality15. Sorcerers and Curses alike can
sense the appearance of a powerful being in their proximity, e.g. Sukuna awakening in Shibuya
and alerting nearby combatants.

Cursed Energy Manipulation
Cursed Energy Manipulation is "the foundation for all Jujutsu."16It is the concept of controlling
the flow/rotation of Cursed Energy. The aspects of CE manipulation are Output 出力 and
Reinforcement (under construction).
In addition to rotation and energy, sorcerers must learn the skill of proper CE flow
control. Cursed Energy originates in the stomach, and novice sorcerers can consciously flow it
through different parts of their body, unlike non-sorcerers who have no control of their CE.

From this point, a sorcerer can learn to flow CE more naturally throughout the body, which
comes from an understanding of the holistic human person as living in the world as mind,
body, and soul. Viewing the body as "disparate body parts" rather than one whole degrades
one's ability to execute proper CE flow control.17 An exception to this is Reverse Cursed
technique, which is directed by the brain.
A sorcerer can 'disengage' or dispel their own Cursed Energy, as seen when Todo drops
his CE defense to deflect Hanami's CE-leeching projectiles.18 Sorcerers can also eject
damaging Cursed Energy channeled into them from a foe out from their own bodies, using
Reverse Cursed technique to heal simultaneously.19
A sorcerer with unusually high speed can delay the impact of their Cursed Energy after
the moment their physical strike occurs, resulting in two separate strikes being dealt to a
target. Typically, this is due to inexperienced handling of CE flow and holds back the caster's
ability to grow in strength. However, a skilled sorcerer with precise CE control can intentionally
delay their CE impact to their advantage. This strategy does not work well against experienced
targets such as Special Grades who know to defend unless it is carefully executed.20
It is difficult to read the flow of CE since a sorcerer wraps their entire body in it and they
can distribute it unpredictably, baring their full strength only at the moment of impact instead
of preemptively coating the part of the body with which they will strike. Experienced sorcerers
can attack without projecting which body part they will use to attack, and can use CE to fake a
strike or the location of a cursed object, e.g. Panda's cursed cores. Cursed Energy manipulation
is key to improving the execution and CE efficiency of a sorcerer's Technique and finding new
applications, called Extensions.21 Black Flash can drastically increase a sorcerer's ability to
understand and manipulate CE.
Cursed Energy can be squeezed out of negative emotions22 but relying on negative
emotions can also disrupt proper CE flow.23
Cursed Energy can be used to protect the soul.

Positive & Negative Energy
CE must be channeled into a Technique in order to activate it. There are two modes of Cursed
Energy--Positive and Negative. The default way for a sorcerer to use CE in a CT is Negative
Energy.
Reverse Cursed technique is the name of the process where a sorcerer produces
Positive Energy.24 If a sorcerer uses the Positive Energy produced by RCt to power their
Technique, they can invert the effect of the Technique, e.g. Gojo's Red as an inverse of Blue
(see Reversal)

The process looks like this:
● Negative Energy x Negative Energy (RCt) → Positive Energy → Healing
● Negative Energy x Negative Energy (RCt) → Positive Energy → Reversal
This is evident in that RCt appears before Reversal in the Fanbook chart.
Note: 'Reverse Cursed Energy' coating Mahoraga’s Blade of Extermination from Ch. 118
is a mistranslation of 'Positive Energy' produced through RCt.25

Forward & Backward Rotation

The regular or normal way to rotate CE is "forward," hence the literal and more accurate
translation of Lapse, a normal activation of a Technique, being "forward rotation". The opposite
direction to rotate CE is "backward" or "reverse" rotation. A useful analogy to envision is a
spinning washing machine, or a hamster wheel, which can spin clockwise or counterclockwise.
In order to use a Technique, a sorcerer must rotate their CE 'clockwise', and then channel it into
the Technique. To use Reversal, a sorcerer must use backward rotation, 'counterclockwise',
instead of forward or 'clockwise'.

The Core of Cursed Energy

When someone who can manipulate Cursed Energy reaches a peak moment in combat or
under pressure, they can have an epiphany wherein they grasp "the core" of Cursed Energy.
Grasping the Core seems to ascend sorcerers to a higher plane of skill and understanding in
Jujutsu, opening further pathways to reaching their greatest potential. We can infer this as we
see the epiphany often occurs in tandem with a sorcerer executing a Black Flash, which raises
one's understanding of CE greatly, or triggering the ability to use Reverse Cursed technique for
the first time.26

Residuals - 残穢 Zan'e
Sorcerers are able to concentrate enough to see the flow of Cursed Energy in opponents, and
can pick up on Residuals, which are traces of CE left behind by sorcerers and Cursed Spirits
when a CT is activated.27 It is "an aroma similar to Jujutsu" which civilians cannot see or sense,
and sorcerers may even fail to notice Residuals if they are not attentive. It is possible to trace
the entity that emitted the Cursed Energy through the Residuals left behind.28 Each individual
seems to have unique, distinguishable CE and Residuals similar to fingerprints.29
Cursed Tools also leave residual traces of CE but it is unclear how distinctive they are
compared to a sorcerer’s CE.30

Reverse Cursed technique - 反転術式 Hanten Jujutsushiki
(RCt)
Cursed Energy is Negative Energy by default. When Negative Energy is multiplied with
Negative Energy, it produces Positive Energy, and this process is called Reverse Cursed
technique. It is not a Technique in the usual sense, but rather a skill, an advanced form of CE
manipulation.31 Note: I have intentionally spelled technique with a lowerscase T to indicate
that it is not a 'true' Technique.
Positive Energy produced by RCt can be used to Heal wounds and regenerate limbs,
heavily damage Cursed Spirits, or activate a Cursed Technique Reversal.32 The ability to use
Healing on others is rare among human sorcerers.33 RCt is difficult to achieve, and the majority
of sorcerers never learn it.
To kill a skilled user of Reverse Cursed technique healing, one must destroy their
opponent's brain in one blow since casters user their brain to direct RCt, rather than with their
whole self as with Negative CE.34

Healing with Reverse Cursed technique

Sorcerers differ in their ability to Heal; some can regenerate limbs, some can Heal scars, some
can only Heal small injuries, and some can only Heal themselves and not others. Weapons
imbued with Positive Energy seem to be another viable application of Reverse Cursed
technique as well, making them efficient tools to exorcise curses.35
Skilled sorcerers can use RCt to heal a Technique that has been temporarily burned out
by Domain Expansion.36 Remedying burnout with RCt requires that the user destroys the part
of their brain where their Technique is engraved (See Cursed Technique), then heal their brain
with RCt. This is an immense strain on the body and mind and can only be done a handful of
times by master Jujutsu users before they they begin to bleed from the head and risk killing
themselves with another Domain Expansion.37

Cursed Technique - 呪術 Jutsushiki

(CT)
Cursed Techniques are engraved in what is roughly the prefrontal cortex of the right side of the
brain, referred to as the "black box of the brain."38 They are activated when the caster pours
Cursed Energy into a specific ability, utilizing either a Forward Rotation (Lapse) or Backward
Rotation (Reversal). Techniques use something that is like a mathematical formula or blueprint
into which Cursed Energy is channeled.39

Innate Techniques, which can be either Inherited or Non-Inherited, are unique abilities
that a sorcerer is born with and which continuously "engrave" into their body, not unlike a
copyrighted program.40 They are proprietary Techniques and can only rarely be mimicked. The
formula/blueprint for Innate Techniques, like Ten Shadows or Limitless, are only accessible to
Megumi or Satoru and other Zenin and Gojo who inherited the engraving hereditarily. Some
Innate Techs spawn naturally within a sorcerer irrespective of their heritage.
Non-Innate Techniques are ubiquitous skills, and anyone with enough talent or
qualifications is capable of using these universal Techniques, e.g. Curtain, Simple Domain, and
simple Shikigami. Non-Innate Techniques are conceptually accessible to anyone to learn.
Although it is not stated explicitly in the canon, it appears that CTs are either passive or
active abilities. The vast majority of CTs are activated manually, while only a few recorded
Innate Techniques are implicitly passive, activating automatically or staying active perpetually
with no manual activation, e.g. Immortality, Miracles.

Translation Note: Technique

There are several words meaning "technique" or "skill" in Japanese, such as waza 技 and jutsu 術. In
Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege uses 呪術 Jujutsu ('sorcery') or 術式 Jutsushiki ('Cursed Technique'). 呪術式
Jujutsushiki was an erroneous translation that made its way onto the JJK Wiki and this word does not
appear in the manga.41

Translation Note: Engraving of the Technique / Black Box

In the panels cited in Ch. 12, Gojo says in the Viz translation that "other than simple Shikigami or
Barriers, the ability to use Cursed Techniques is intrinsic". The Japanese reads more accurately, "Innate
Cursed Techniques are engraved from birth." The word for 'engraved' here is kizamare 刻む and is
translated more accurately in the Volume 10 extra ("carved"). However, one detail missed in the
English is that "Gege never uses 'engraved' in the past tense unless the person is dead. But he uses
either present or present continuous: 'is engraved' ". This implies that Techniques are continuously
engraved into the body as they are used. This may explain how a sorcerer can grow in their
interpretations and skill in using an Innate Technique.42

In Ch. 20, the Viz translation for Shoko's dialogue says, "The connection between the brain and
Cursed Energy is shrouded in mystery after all," but a more accurate translation is, "The relationship
between Cursed Energy and the brain is still a black box." We later see this word crop up in Ch. 230
as Kusakabe describes the brain.43

Techniques often require a Hand Seal or mudra, and sometimes an Incantation or other ritual.
"To master Jujutsu is to master subtraction," and a sorcerer's skill is determined by their ability

Technology & Techniques

Techniques appear to manifest and evolve over time with the progression of human
technology, e.g. Projection/24 FPS, Photo Manipulation, Haircraft Techniques. The implications
of this idea are enormous.
We can speculate that Cursed Techniques form as a reflection of human ideas. This is
seen in Kirara's Love Rendezvous Technique, which operates around the human-contrived
concept of a constellation, in Hakari's Private Pure Love Train, based on a manga, or in Takaba's
Comedian, based on his own understanding of humor.

Technique Naming Conventions and Classifications

under construction
Many Cursed Techniques have different classifications attached to their names, which do not
appear to follow a specific pattern and are lost in the English translation. Fan speculations
about these classifications are included below and are not confirmed to be canon so make of
them what you will.

Jujutsu 呪術
Jujutsu tends to be used when an abstract power acts on something physical. It is also the

Juhō 呪法
Outside of JJK, this word refers to something like a body of sorcery related to one theme.
Within JJK, "Juho feels like a sort of 'Way of the Straw Soll', 'Way of the 7:3' vs [Jutsu,] 'I move
blood around, and I made up attack names for different ways I shaped my blood.' "46 Juho seem
to require some hand-holding for the caster, where some part of it is automatic, as if it operates

Jutsushiki 術式
This is the general word for Cursed Technique.
● Construction - 構築術式 Kōchiku Jutsushiki

No Classification
Some CTs have no classification. We can speculate this may be because they are modern
Techniques registered by a traditional Jujutsu Society run by the elderly who canonically clash
with non-traditional, modern Techniques and sorcerers.
● Cursed Speech - 呪言 Jugon
● Idle Transfiguration - 無為転変 Mui Tenpen

Binding - 縛りShibari
or "Binding Vow"
Bindings are important in the Jujutsu world48 and are foundational to Cursed Techniques. They
are self-imposed restrictions by which a person can sacrifice one thing in order to gain
something else, similar to the law of equivalent exchange.

Bindings can be used to create 'rules' or customize specific aspects of a Technique. It is
possible that Bindings are implicitly or fundamentally present in different Techniques and
Jujutsu interactions, e.g. the difference between Domain Expansion, Simple Domain, Domain
Amplification. Each are connected to one another on the Technique tree from the Fanbook, and
Bindings may be the underlying key that distinguishes them. However, this is speculation. See
more in the FAQ on these alleged 'implied Bindings'.
Bindings can be used to self-impose restrictions in exchange for a boost in power, e.g.
Nanami's Overtime, which grants him a greater amount of CE when working overtime in
exchange for limiting his regular levels of CE.
Bindings with oneself can be created in a split second to aid in combat, e.g. Hakari shifts
the CE protecting a limb, essentially sacrificing it, to protect the rest of the body against
Kashimo’s steam explosion.32
It is possible that a Binding can restrict a Technique to single-use in exchange for some
increase in power. This is currently unconfirmed but may be implied by Kashimo.49
Lastly, Bindings can be used as a vow or contract between two or more parties. A
Binding between two parties must be mutually agreed upon.50 It is very difficult to force
someone into a Binding.51 Breaking a Binding made with oneself may only result in losing what
was gained; however, breaking a Binding between two parties may result in more costly
penalties. We have yet to see this in effect.

Translation Note: Binding

"Viz originally translated this as “constraint” in Ch. 55. However, the JP uses the term shibari 縛り
which is the exact same term used for a binding vow. Not to mention the JP word for “binding vow”
actually just means “binding” and there’s no “vow” in there at all…apparently a binding can loosen
over time. Basically, anytime you see the term binding, binding vow or constraint in the manga they all
mean the exact same thing."52

Cursed Spirit - 呪霊 Jurei

Cursed Spirits manifest as a culmination of Cursed Energy, which is produced by negative
emotions and leaks out of humans.53 Cursed Spirits are composed of Negative Cursed Energy
and are invisible to the non-sorcerer's naked eye, except in special circumstances such as
near-death experiences, or in the case of a Window. Human fear, sadness, and hatred for
particular concepts, such as urban legends, diseases, natural disasters, or even humans' hatred
for one another, can spawn Cursed Spirits.
Curses turn to dust when they are killed, and even a small part of the body cut off will
follow this rule with few exceptions. However, using a specific method similar to the culinary

Sorcerers measure curses by a grading system.

Cursed Wombs - 呪胎 Jutai

A Cursed Womb occurs when a mass of CE accumulates from negative emotions and appears
in a form similar to a fetus, sometimes hovering over the area where it spawns. It then grows
and changes shape, eventually giving birth and undergoing "metamorphosis" to a fully-fledged
Cursed Spirit. Cursed Wombs are expected to grow into something equivalent to a Special
Grade Curse and are treated as Imaginary Vengeful Spirits during the observation stage.54

Death Painting Wombs - 呪胎九相図 Jutai Kusōzu

The nine Death Painting Wombs are Special Grade cursed objects created by the original
Noritoshi Kamo, whose body was possessed by Kenjaku at the time. Kamo created the
Paintings by exploiting the unique genetic makeup of a woman in the Meiji era who bore a
curse-human hybrid child. He impregnated her nine times, and aborted the product of those
pregnancies each time. The aborted fetuses are the Death Painting Wombs.
The Death Paintings take the form of small fetuses and were originally kept in glass
jars. While dormant in the jars, the Paintings are able to sense their siblings' consciousness. In
order to become a fully-fledged Curse, a human Vessel must swallow the Painting and be
transformed into an Incarnation. The more resistant a Vessel is to curses, the less their
transformation. A Painting in the form of a transformed Vessel can sense when one of his
brothers dies. They have no memories of their mother but do remember their 'father', Kamo,
who was Kenjaku's host, and carry a strong brotherly bond.55
The Death Paintings use blood Techniques inherited from the Kamo clan, as they were
made using Noritoshi Kamo Sr.'s blood, through Kenjaku. Their blood is poisonous.

Lore: Death Paintings - Kusōzu

The Death Paintings allude to an ancient Buddhist meditational practice, "the contemplation of the
nine stages of a decaying corpse". The person meditating observes the stages of a dead body
deteriorating in order to detach themselves from carnal desire. The nine stages also became a
cynosure for Buddhist art and poetry. Artwork of the nine stages is called 九相図 kusōzu and is "an
unapologetically macabre and visceral genre of traditional Japanese art that emerged in the thirteenth
century, influenced by Buddhism’s core tenet about life’s brevity and the inevitability of death.
Acknowledging one’s mortality and ephemerality is vital to achieving Enlightenment."56

The nine stages are as follows:

"i. Chōsō 脹相—distension, corpse expands and becomes bloated due to generation of gases
ii. Esō 壊相—rupture, corpse decays and flesh begins tearing

Vengeful Spirits - 怨霊 Ka Ju-Onryō

Certain Special Grade Spirits possess "boundless Cursed Energy" and cannot be exorcised.
They are Curses "fixated on a specific individual" which manifest on the condition of harming
others, e.g. Rika.58

Imaginary Vengeful Spirit - 仮想怨霊 Kasō Ka Ju-Onryō

(VS)
An Imaginary Vengeful Cursed Spirit is one originating in the imaginations of humans, such as
urban legends, famous ghost stories, yokai, and any other "objects of fear". These Curses
manifest as a grade "proportional to the strength" of people's mental images of them.59
"Imaginary" here is the same word translated as Hollow/Imaginary Purple and Yuki’s
virtual mass in Star Rage.

Over-Cursed Vengeful Spirit - 過呪怨霊

This type of VS is unusually powerful and spawns as a result of a similarly powerful curser 加
呪者. Rika is the only VS called Over-Cursed.

Translation Note: Over-Cursed Vengeful Spirit

"[Rika] is called an over-cursed vengeful spirit 過呪怨霊" in the Fanbook and in Volume 0. In Volume 0
"is where it is supposed to write 過呪怨霊. But the official translation left out the 過呪 (over-cursed)
and just translated the 怨霊 (vengeful cursed spirit)."

過 is also used in chemistry as the suffix "per". Like peroxide. The suffix "per" is added to refer to a
molecule containing an oxygen-oxygen single bond. That kinda makes sense too. Like "bonded-curse
vengeful spirit". But this usage of the prefix "per" is only used in chemistry and is also outdated, I
think? So the connection might be a bit of a stretch. But both do make sense:

(1) bonded-curse (because the vengeful spirit is bonded with the curser)
(2) over-cursed (because they are over-cursed and become vengeful spirits)."60

Special Grade Disease Curses - 特定疾病呪霊 Tokutei Shippei Jurei

Some Curses originate from the fear of a specific disease, having "inflicted such extensive
damage that they are etched in the history of humankind" and remain the object of many
people's fears.61 These diseases, which can be identified by name, often manifest as Curses
when the negative emotions of many people accumulate around their concept.

Taijutsu - 体術
Taijutsu is hand-to-hand combat which unleashes the user's CE.62 Black Flash can be activated
in Taijutsu.

Divergent Fist - 逕庭拳 Keitei Ken

Divergent Fist is not a Cursed Technique, but a Taijutsu technique that occurs when the flow of
Cursed Energy cannot keep up with the high-speed strike delivered by the user, and a lag is
created between the two impacts. The first strike has little CE compared to the second.63

Heavenly Restriction - 天与呪縛 Ten'yo Jubaku

(HR)
or "Heavenly Pact"
Occurring randomly, a Heavenly Restriction forcibly imposes an extreme Binding on a person,
e.g. Toji, Mechamaru, Maki at birth. It is possible for an HR to be altered by its bearer, as
Akutami has stated Maki would need to think critically about what she can ‘discard’ to become

more like Toji.64 This came into fruition in Maki discarding Mai, whose Cursed Energy,
Technique, and ambition held Maki back from achieving Toji's level of physicality since they
were linked as twins.65 It is possible this alternation is unique to Identical Twins. See Identical
Twins for more on this interaction.
A bearer of HR can increase its ability by using the same "Reveal" Binding that applies
with Cursed Techniques.66
There is a possibility that HR has a hereditary component, given the fact that HR
appears to be a rare occurrence, yet two virtually identical HRs manifested in the Zenin family
in a matter of a few generations. This is speculation, however.
See Heavenly Restriction - Zero Cursed Energy for details on Toji and Maki's powerful
HR.

Curtain - 帳 Tobari
-Barrier-
 or "Screen"
Curtains are a vast, spherical shield that prevent civilians from seeing the activity of Cursed
Spirits and sorcerers within a specified space. Curtains are formed using a Mudra accompanied
by an incantation: "Emerge from the darkness, blacker than darkness. Purify that which is
impure." An indirect effect of Curtains is that they block cell service.

Barrier - 結界 Kekkai
-(Barrier)-
Barriers are a Jujutsu construct that typically apply a 'rule' created with a Binding which applies
to the space within the Barrier and any entities inside it. Frequently, Barriers physically contain
certain entities within a space or deny others entry within that space. Complicated Barriers
sometimes require a Talisman, which also uses a Binding, e.g. "anyone can enter the Barrier at
the cost of Gojo Satoru being barred entry". It appears that anyone can set up a commissioned
Barrier that uses a Talisman by chanting the incantation. All Domain Expansions utilize a
Barrier, though Open-Barrier Domains choose to open the shell gaikaku 外殻 of the Barrier.
Barriers are not merely the boundary or fence around a space, but also the volume inside. They
are are better described as a 'zone' or 'territory'.
There is a specific part of the brain that "deals with Barrier Techniques," so if that part
of the brain is damaged a caster cannot user Barrier Techniques.67
A person without any Cursed Energy is not trapped by typical Barriers but is treated
like a building instead. They can choose to enter Barriers as they please. A Domain Expansion
caster must use a physical space, e.g. Megumi's use of the gymnasium, creating a physical
'barrier' to replace the Jujutsu Barrier a 0 CE person can bypass.68 Furthermore, it seems

unlikely that a 0 CE person like Toji or Maki will be able to bypass Open-Barrier Domains
utilized by Kenjaku and Sukuna because their Domains do not designate any special treatment
of buildings in the surrounding environment. However, this is currently speculation.
Under particular circumstances, it is possible for Barriers to manipulate the passage of
time for those who are contained within. The only occurrences of this phenomenon we have
seen has been due to a Cursed Spirit's Technique and a Cursed Object's Technique, the Curse
Utahime and Mei Mei hunt during Hidden Inventory, Prison Realm, and Rokujushi Miyo's
Simple Domain.

Translation Note: Barrier as a Zone

TL;DR: In English, the word 'barrier' is a wall, perimeter, or boundary, but kekkai means both a
zone (that has volume) AND a boundary, 2 in 1. We do not have an equivalent English word for
this.

"Rather than magic or onmyouji, the root of kekkai (結界) actually comes from Buddhism. It basically
means a restricted area or a bounded field. In esoteric Buddhism, it refers to an area of a doujou used
to ward off evil, a sacred area, if you will. And this is where the kekkai concept to ward off enemies in
many supernatural series comes from."69

In Japanese, the shell gaikaku 外殻 or boundary of the Barrier is not the Barrier itself, and "whether a
Barrier has a shell is irrelevant to the general definition of a Barrier"; a shell is merely a component of
a Barrier, where Barrier is defined as a 'zone' and an "area/volume rather than a perimeter/shell."

"We should imagine a "barrier" as a ward, a zone, a territory, or a field. Imagine something like a
magnetic field. Since it is an area of effect. A shield with some surface area can be called a barrier, but
a barrier in general doesn't always imply a shield/shell/exterior. That is what a "barrier" (結界) is
supposed to be like in general. A barrier can either mean (i) a literal shell that blocks something
(vision, object, or people) from coming in or out from the territory, (ii) a literal territory within which
there is some effect, or (iii) both. Whether a territory has a wall is irrelevant to the general definition of
a territory. Similarly, whether a barrier has a shell is irrelevant to the general definition of a barrier." 70

Sunyata Barrier

Tengen
A Sunyata Barrier appears to be Tengen's invention and is a type of blank, Technique-less
Barrier, the structure of which anyone possessing great Barrier skills can configure. The
landscape within the Barrier conforms to the user's design. However, the owner of a Sunyata
Barrier still retains ultimate control of its bounds and can peel away any kind of Domain or
anti-Domain Technique activated inside.71

Pure Barrier - 浄界 Jōkai

-Barrier-
or "Purification Barrier"
Pure Barriers are superior to regular Barriers. Tengen used them to limit the birth of Cursed
Spirits and help to calibrate the Barrier Techniques that Assistant Managers at Jujutsu Tech
use, presumably the Curtains cast to conceal the missions of Jujutsu sorcerers.
There are four critical Pure Barriers in Japan: one at the Imperial Palace, one at the
Tomb of the Star beneath Jujutsu Tech, one at Yamakuni Imperial mausoleum in Kyoto, and one
in the Hida Holy Mountains is very large and splits Japan between East and West. If these Pure
Barriers were to be destroyed or released, "the unremitting battle against Cursed Spirits" and
the sorcerers' "Barrier Technique know-how would revert to how they were one thousand
years ago".72

Brahma Barrier - 梵界 Bonkai

Brahma Barriers are superior even to Pure Barriers. Kenjaku used a Brahma Barrier to create
the Culling Game using Tengen's existing Pure Barriers as its foundation.73

Medium
Mediums are an intermediary object used by sorcerers in some Techniques. Talismans are a
type of Medium commonly used by summoners of Shikigami.
Granny Ogami uses a bead necklace in her Seance ritual. Ten Shadows is unique in that
it uses animal shadows created with hand signs as a Medium, rather than a physical object.
Junpei Yoshino uses his hair as a medium to summon Moon Dregs, as does Yuta when utilizing
Dhruv’s Technique in Sendai.

Hand Gestures - 掌印 Shōin

or "Mudra", "Hand Seals", "Hand Signs"
Hand seals are a fundamental element in Jujutsu and are often used to activate Cursed
Techniques. Once a sorcerer reaches an acute understanding of CE and a high proficiency in CE
flow control, provided they have the innate potential required for the feat, they may omit some
hand seals.75 Hand seals correlate with historic Japanese Mudra.

Cursed Object - 呪物 Jubutsu

Cursed Objects are physical items which have been "embedded" or imbued with Curses. They
often have a notable history and can possess unique supernatural qualities or abilities. Some
Objects are composed of the remains of a dead sorcerer or other being, even possessing the
consciousness of the being. A human who consumes a Cursed Object has a small chance to
become a Vessel for that object and host its power/consciousness.
A normal object can unintentionally be turned into a weak Cursed Object if a sorcerer
channels CE into it repeatedly, e.g. Miwa's sword.76
Special Grade Cursed Objects like Sukuna’s fingers are classified as such because they
cannot be destroyed. "Their existence is guaranteed under the Binding that they 'cease to live
and do no harm to others' ". These Bindings loosen over time and can attract other curses.
Cursed Tools are classified separately from Cursed Objects.77

Cursed Tool - 呪具 Jugu

Cursed Tools are weapons imbued with Cursed Energy and are primarily used to fight Curses.
One category of Tools become gradually cursed as they are used, while the other category
possesses a "dark history" which resulted in their curse.78

Special Grade Cursed Tools - 特級呪具 Tokkyū Jugu

Special Grade Tools boast rare special effects and immense power, e.g. Inverted Spear of
Heaven can forcibly neutralize an activated Technique. 79

Divine Instruments - 神具 Shingu

Several Tools are comparable to Special Grade Cursed Tools due to their powerful effects, such
as Makora's Sword of Extermination and Miguel's Black Rope and thus can be considered
“divine instruments.”80

Talisman - 呪符 Jufu
Talismans are slips of paper resembling ofuda81, which are prepared beforehand by a caster
who fills them with Cursed Energy and act as Mediums82. They can be 'programmed' for
different purposes, e.g. 'stick to the target' or 'channel CE into the target'. The Talisman's
Cursed Energy reacts under certain conditions set by the caster. Since they are filled with CE
prior to use, even a non-sorcerer can use them. Talismans can be used to summon Shikigami,
create Barriers, or seal Cursed Objects.83

Seal
Seals are the use of Talismans to control Curses. Powerful Curses which cannot be exorcised,
such as Special Grade Curses, are often bound with a Seal. Seals are typically infused with
Cursed Energy and weaken as time passes. A sealed Cursed Object gradually attracts other
Curses and feeds off of them.

Shikigami - 式神
Shikigami are 'monstrous creatures' similar to Cursed Spirits which can be summoned through
a Medium, tamed, and made subordinate to the caster.84 They often possess unique
Techniques.85 When the caster is incapacitated or sufficiently interrupted, their summoned
Shikigami typically dispel.

Cursed Corpse - 呪骸 Jugai

Cursed Corpses are inanimate objects containing a core and a curse which makes them
sentient, acting autonomously rather than being manipulated like a Puppet. Manmade cursed
corpses contain a built-in core which is akin to a human heart. If the core is destroyed, a Corpse
will no longer be able to function remotely, or will lose access to some of its abilities e.g.
Panda’s brother and sister cores.
The use of Corpses began in the Heian era and "branched out, eventually sublimating"
into Puppet Jujutsu.86

Translation Note: Sublimating of Cursed Corpses

Sublimating is not a commonly used word but is what the original JP used. In psychoanalytic theory, to
sublimate means to divert or modify [an instinctual impulse] into a culturally higher or socially more
acceptable activity. This seems to imply that puppet sorcery was previously seen as a taboo
technique.87

Puppet - 傀儡 Kairai
A Puppet is an inanimate object which is controlled remotely through Cursed Energy. It is not
autonomous and has neither a will of its own, nor can it act on its own. It is simply a vehicle
through which a sorcerer can act. Puppets do not have cores like Cursed Corpses; rather, the
caster channels CE into a puppet and uses a CT through it. This process requires a large
reservoir of CE and a talent for manipulating CE.

Black Flash - 黒閃 Kokusen

(BF)
Black Flash is an effect similar to a critical hit which deals massive damage to the target. It
occurs when the CE in a strike is applied to the target within one millionth of a second of the
physical strike. "Space is distorted" and CE flashes back in an explosive burst, raising the
strike's impact to the 2.5th power88. Most notably, it allows the user to grasp the "core" and
nature of Cursed Energy, giving insight into the user's Technique and higher levels of CE
manipulation. It also can allow the user to quickly recover the output of their Reverse Cursed
technique.
A Black Flash can be applied in Taijutsu including during the use of weapons. Once a
BF is achieved, the user enters a "zone" state similar to an athlete that can help them achieve
more BFs and raise their potential to 120%.89 Sorcerers cannot use BF at will.90
Grasping the core of CE increases a sorcerer's understanding of and precision with CE
and flow control, creating an immeasurable power gap between those who have used BF and
those who have not.91 A Cursed Spirit who uses Black Flash can understand the "essence" of
their "true, unbridled soul," possibly leading to an evolution in power akin to rebirth.92
Enduring a Black Flash immediately after casting Domain Expansion causes significant
damage to a target.93

Translation Note: Is Black Flash to the 2.5th power, or 2.5x?

Black Flash's explanation is translated incorrectly in the anime English dub and subtitles, leading to a
widespread misconception that it increases a strike's power 2.5x the original. The original Japanese in
the manga explicitly states in Ch. 48 it is の2.5 乗 (じょう), to the 2.5th power.

Curse User
Curse Users are the enemies of sorcerers, and make a living by killing Curses. Any sorcerer
who intentionally kills a civilian invoking a Cursed Technique is considered a Curse User and is
pariah in regular Jujutsu society. They often form their own factions, but since they are outcasts,
they are typically identified by the Big Three Families and eliminated quickly. Historically, Curse
Users have a brief existence.100 They are subject to execution under Jujutsu society
regulations.101

Vessel - 器 Utsuwa
A Vessel is a human that hosts a Curse's power and consciousness. Cursed Spirits cannot
become Vessels.103 Sometimes a Vessel and its Incarnation live in a symbiotic relationship,
where neither controls the other and each assists the other in mutual aid.104 In the rare
circumstance that a person swallows a Cursed Object, a phenomenon called Incarnation occurs
where the Vessel is taken over by the swallowed Object's will.
A Vessel that is host to an incarnated Cursed Object for a long enough period can be
altered by the presence of the Incarnation, becoming someone "soaked" or "steeped" in that
Object's individual Cursed Energy. The effects of this are currently unknown but it appears to
empower the previous Vessel.

Incarnation - 受肉 Juniku
If a powerful Cursed Object imbued with the Cursed Energy of a sealed entity is swallowed by
a person, the sealed entity is able to control the mind and body of its Vessel, even changing its
appearance.105 The stronger the Vessel's resistance to Curses, the less it physically transforms
under the Object's influence.106 A Vessel resisting its Incarnation can manifest in the decrease
of the Incarnation's Cursed Energy output, a limiting of the possessed body's full power.107

Bath Ritual: Sinking the Soul
In order to gain total, uncontested control over its Vessel, an Incarnation can 'sink the soul' of
the Vessel by forcing it to bear unbearable grief or personal, emotional pain. One such method
is through the Bath Ritual, which was traditionally used to turn a vessel (not a Jujutsu Vessel,
but a regular object) treasured as a family heirloom into a Cursed Tool to protect it from
outsiders.
In the original Bath Ritual, "a solution of Cursed Energy is created by grinding and
straining organisms chosen in a kodoku108 ritual. The Vessel is then marinated for ten months
and ten days"109. In the recipe for the Bath Ritual Uraume devised for sinking the soul, a few
changes are made. 1) Cursed Spirits are used rather than organisms. Typically Curses become
dust when killed due to the "disappearance reaction," with few exceptions, so Uraume pins
down110 the Cursed Spirit, freezes its core with their ice Technique, then separates it. They then
finely mince and strain the remaining body parts to drip into a bath of distilled Curse blood or
essence. 2) The time period required for the submersion of the Incarnation is shortened to a
very brief period.111
The end result is nearly uncontested control of the Incarnation over the Vessel's body.

Cage - 檻 Ori
In incredibly unusual circumstances, a Vessel who swallows a Cursed Object can sometimes
overpower and contain the sealed entity, suppressing its power as it wills, e.g. Yuji and Sukuna.
A powerful Cursed Object's presence can sense the Vessel's capacity to suppress the
Incarnation.112 To ensure that the potential Vessel does not become a Cage for the Curse
instead, the potential's soul must be broken, i.e. subject to a terrible horror or shock of sadness.

Star Plasma Vessels

Approximately every 500 years, the SPVs are born to merge with Tengen, the possessor of the
Immortality Technique, through a process which "rewrites his physical information". A
compatible SPV's body combines with Tengen's, resetting the natural evolution of Tengen's CT
to prevent their ascension and preserve their 'ego'.113 Once an SPV has merged with Tengen,
Tengen can no longer distinguish or hear their voice.114 Multiple SPVs can exist simultaneously,
as seen with Yuki and Riko living at the same time, however, their individual potentials for
merging differ.115

Body & Soul

under construction

The Relationship Between Soul and Body

Characters espouse varying beliefs about body and soul in Jujutsu Kaisen. The truth of the
matter is not stated explicitly by the author.
The inside of the body is stated to be "like a Domain," which makes it "impossible" to
materialize Cursed Energy inside someone else's body. "You would have to rip it open" to
accomplish such a feat.116 One can use the body as a Domain to raise a Technique's "limit on
activation time" and "unsteady output".117 This appears to functionally boost a Technique's
power, but only within the body of the caster, e.g. Kenjaku preserves his body in Yuki's Black
Hole using Anti-Gravity System.

Theory: Soul Before Body

Mahito
Mahito believes that the soul is not special but is a mundane and ordinary object. In his view,
"the soul should always exist before the body" because he is able to indirectly manipulate the
body using his soul manipulation Technique, Idle Transfiguration, to change the body. "The
shape of the body gets pulled along by the shape of the soul".118 Mahito does not heal himself
with Reverse Cursed technique; he instead "firmly maintains" the shape of his soul to undo any
injuries.119
Mahito states that "unlike the body, the soul can be killed multiple times" in a moment
of revelry about tormenting and "killing" Yuji repeatedly. He appears to mean this in a spiritual
and emotional sense, relating to his previous comments about the emotions such as tears, the
"sweat of the soul" trickling out at times.120 According to Mahito, emotions. which are the
source of CE. come from the soul.

Theory: Body and Soul Are One

Kenjaku
Kenjaku states that "the body is the soul, and the soul the body." He concludes this from the
reaction of his host Geto's memories, which attempt to choke him to death with his own hand
when Gojo demands why he is allowing his body to be used. "This phenomenon, or the fact
that the host body's memories are retained, can't be explained" otherwise.
Kenjaku and Mahito both use different Techniques that interact in some way with the
soul and body, and Mahito suggests that the two "practically live in different worlds," meaning

that the soul-body basics might not be the same for everyone. This exchange is inconclusive,
however, as Kenjaku merely says, "I like that. It's poetic".121

Idle Transfiguration and Soul Damage

Idle Transfiguration and Soul Liberation Blade are currently the only two powers capable of
directly 'damaging' or altering the soul rather than the body. "A person, once disfigured [by Idle
Transfiguration], cannot be helped" by Reverse Cursed technique healing.122 Mahito admits he
should have damaged Junpei physically if he had wanted Sukuna to heal him with RCt. Shoko
and other RCt healers like Sukuna are unable to revert a transfigured human back to their
human form.123 Essentially, the body's blueprint is altered by Idle Transfig, for example, to no
longer include a right hand. It is impossible to regrow the hand because it is no longer a
component of the body, as if the victim's maximum HP in a game has been diminished
permanently124. Idle Transfig is unhealable by RCt as far as we know. However, it's possible
that generic damage to the soul (not Transfig) can be healed.

Protecting the Soul with Cursed Energy

Sorcerers can protect their bodies with Cursed Energy, but "they [just] aren't used to protecting
their souls".125 Mahito observes Nanami "subconsciously" protecting his soul with Cursed
Energy, which is enough protection to withstand 2-4 soul-attacks from Idle Transfiguration.126

Multiple Souls in One Body

When one body hosts more than one soul, the host can begin to perceive "the contours of the
soul," e.g. Yuji and Sukuna. A Technique like Idle Transfiguration enables Mahito to change the
shape of his own soul, making him difficult to damage or kill. One who can perceive the
contours of the soul can cause significant damage and be considered a "mortal enemy" of
someone like Mahito, who is uniquely vulnerable to a soul-perceiver's attacks.127

Strength of the Soul

Some souls are greater than others despite the amount of Cursed Energy they have. Sukuna's
soul is stated to be a "forbidden soul" by the narrator and "on another level" by Mahito, who
barely escapes with his life after intruding on 3-Finger-Sukuna's Innate Domain when Yuji
breaks into Self-Embodiment of Perfection, which touches the soul of its targets.128

Identical Twins
Twins are "inauspicious" for sorcerers because "Cursed Techniques treat identical twins as one
individual". If the two twins have opposing wills and motives, neither can progress and both
are held back. If one has some Cursed Energy and the other has a Heavenly Restriction, the
twins, in some sense, 'share' the CE and neither can grow strong, living in a symbiotic, almost
parasitic relationship. If one twin dies and discards the CE, the other twin with the HR can
maximize that HR by throwing away their twin's CE. Twins seem to be able to share what may
be an Innate Domain under special circumstances as seen with Mai and Maki. They can make a
Binding-style agreement within their ID.129

Fate - 因果 Inga
under construction
Fate is a similarly shrouded topic in Jujutsu Kaisen and is mentioned for the first time in Ch. 145
when Tengen describes the relationship between themself, the Six Eyes, and the Star Plasma
Vessel. Those with 0-CE Heavenly Restrictions are capable of breaking the "chains" of Fate.
Reggie Star references Fate several chapters later, and Hana Kurusu calls Megumi the "fated
one". The manga, Fanbook, and other canon sources offer no additional information on Fate.
The information in the box below is strictly fan theory and interpretation and is not stated in
the canon.

Theory: Fate
"Fate, the Cursed Energy Ecosystem, and the Four Final Solutions" (Cindersnap)
Link to post here
This theory posits that Fate is not a karmic or cosmic force, but a descriptor for a Binding/Heavenly
Restriction which is part of the natural, cyclical flow of a Cursed Energy 'Ecosystem'.

Technique Categories
Innate Technique - 生得術式 Shōtoku Jutsushiki
Innate Techniques are carved into the user's body130. They are in some part hereditary, since
Innate Techs can be inherited by a user's offspring. However, Innate Techs often manifest apart

from genetics and regardless of a person's ancestry, e.g. Geto's Cursed Spirit Manipulation,
despite having been born to non-sorcerer parents.
Not all sorcerers are born with an Innate Technique. There is some genetic component
to Innate Techniques, and Innate Techs probably depend on the existence of Cursed Energy,
therefore Touji never had one due to his Heavenly Restriction. An Innate Tech is required to
manifest a Domain Expansion.
It is possible that Innate Techs may also be carved into the soul as well as the body, as
seen in Sukuna's influence on Yuji's body which will force him to learn Sukuna's CT, and the
body/soul connection postulated by Kenjaku. However, this may be due to the physical
component of Sukuna's fingers ingested by Yuji.
Not everyone is born with an Innate Technique, and some seem to have a dormant
Technique which they are unable to manifest due to poor innate talent or potential, e.g. Junpei,
and Kenjaku's vessel/CT interference for the Culling Game. Manipulating the brain of a person
can bring out that potential Innate Technique, since the soul and the body are said to be one,
and twisting the body twists the soul, as seen in Mahito's interference with Junpei.

Inherited Technique - 相伝術式 Sōden Jutsushiki

Some Innate Techniques are passed down hereditarily, e.g. Ten Shadows or Straw Doll. From
this we can conclude that Innate Techniques are in some way linked to genetics in addition to
the theorized soul/self/mind link. This fits comfortably with the information we have on the
body, mind, and soul.

Non-Inherited Technique
Some Innate Techniques manifest when a person is born regardless of their genetic
connections, e.g. Geto's Cursed Spirit Manipulation or Nanami's 7:3, neither of which originate
from their parents.

Non-Innate Technique
Non-Innate Techs are universally accessible, non-hereditary, non-unique techniques that
anyone capable of CE manipulation can use regardless of whether they have an Innate Tech,
e.g. Curtain, Simple Domain. Some Non-Innate Techs do not fall under specific subcategories.
Categories are not mutually exclusive.

Anti-Domain Technique
-Anti-DE-
Anti-Domain Techniques are countermeasures designed to withstand Domain Expansions.

Barrier Technique - 結界術式 Kekkai Jutsushiki

Barrier Techniques employ Barriers to trap entities within a zone or without and can be imbued

Innate Technique Interpretations

Technique Lapse - 術式順転 Jutsushiki Junten
also translated "Forward Rotation"
Lapse or Forward Rotation is the basic, default, 'neutral' activation of a Technique. To activate a
Technique, the caster applies a forward rotational direction to their CE and channels it through
their Technique.
Gojo's Infinity is a Lapse. His Blue is a reinforced or 'strengthened' Lapse based on the
Gojo CT chart, which shows that he creates Blue by adding Negative Energy to Negative
Energy, strengthening it.

Translation Note: Forward Rotation

The kanji 順転 can mean "to roll, fall over, tumble". 'Lapse' is perhaps not the best translation since it
implies regression. The meaning of 順転 is 'forward rotation', and its most accurate translation is
probably something closer to 'with the grain' (junten) vs 'against the grain' (hanten - see Reversal). Or,
if you take a river as the metaphor, the "jun" direction is flowing with the river flow, and the "han"
direction is going against the river flow...or it's like rubbing a cat's fur from head to tail vs tail to head.
Akutami likely uses rotation in regards to how sorcerers flow/rotate CE through their body, as
explained by Todo. See Cursed Energy Manipulation for more on this.132

Technique Extension - 拡張術式 Kakuchō Jujutsushiki

also translated "Technique Amplification"
(Ext)
An Extension is any interpretation that goes beyond a Technique's normal activation, and is a
broad category,133 e.g. Red and Blue, which are variations of Gojo's Limitless, or Mahito's Soul
Multiplicity, which is a variation of Idle Transfiguration.

Translation Note: Technique Extension

拡張 expansion is a general term for expansion, such as expand your house, expand your knowledge,
expand your interpretation.134

Technique Reversal - 術式反転 Jutsushiki Hanten

or "Technique Inversion"
(Reversal)
In a Reversal, the caster channels the Positive energy of Reverse Cursed technique into their
CT to create an inverse effect of their existing Technique. Reversal outputs at least two times
as much CE as Lapse.135
Reversal is difficult for sorcerers to achieve, and so only some of the elite sorcerers who
have achieved Reverse Cursed technique have demonstrated Reversal.

Maximum Technique - 極ノ番 Goku no Ban

(Max)
Maximums are a Technique's ultimate move136 and "most supreme art"137. They are Extensions
that push a Technique to its furthest creative potential, often allowing for new unique effects
based on the foundations of the CT. Current known maximums include Geto's Uzumaki, Jogo's
Meteor138, and Eso's Wing King139.
Megumi's Max Elephant is not a Max Technique, despite the translation, in addition to
Gojo's Max Cursed Energy Output: Blue/Azure Glow, which is a Stack.

Translation Note: Maximum

極ノ番 also translates as 'pinnacle' or 'zenith'.140

Stack - 載 Sai
Any move that uses the maximum output of CE but is not a Maximum is a Stack, e.g. Flowing
Red Scale: Stack141. According to this definition, Gojo's Max Cursed Energy Output: Blue, also
translated 'Azure Glow' (by Jaimini's Box scans), is a Stack, despite the name.

eDomain Expansion - 領域展開 Ryōiki Tenkai

Barrier,143 which expands outwards from the Innate Domain. The Barrier can have an open
boundary/shell if the caster chooses. The basis for a DE's functionality seems to depend on
Bindings, one of the fundamentals of Jujutsu.144
Objects sometimes manifest through an Innate Domain, appearing within the Domain
Expansion, but typically are a symbol of the Domain, have no particular purpose, and "may as
well not exist."145

Translation Note: Domain Expansion

Tenkai 展開 is a wider range expansion, which can refer to a different city, state, or global level.146

Translation Note: Imbue 付与

Any time I use the word "imbue" in this document it is in reference to the word 付与 Fuyo, which often
appears in regards to Cursed Techniques but is not translated consistently.

The general rules are:

"(1) You can imbue a CT into a DE.
(2) You can imbue a skill into a CT (eg. Choso imbuing "tracking" into his Piercing Blood).
(3) You can imbue a CT into a cursed tool (eg. Yuki imbuing her CT into Garuda, and other special
grade cursed tools are also said to be imbued with CTs)."147

Domain Mechanics
Domains classify as an advanced Barrier Technique application which create a spherical
Domain around the caster and surround it with Barriers, forge an environment with a unique
landscape, boost the user's stats, and guarantee the imbued sure-hit Technique's attacks
against entities within the Domain.148 "The imbued Cursed Technique activated in the Domain
will always hit," ergo, anyone caught in a Domain cannot use their Cursed Technique
defensively to neutralize the guaranteed hit.149 A sure-hit Technique can still be blocked or
absorbed, but its contact with the target is guaranteed. The tradeoff for Domain Expansion's
power is that it usually consumes a vast amount of Cursed Energy.
DEs are very difficult to escape from since they operate off of the condition that they
are, in exchange for being virtually inescapable, relatively easy to break into. The best way to
break out of a DE is to overcome it with another DE.150

A skilled Jujutsu user can "use the body as a Domain" in tandem with a Technique to
alter its limitations.151

Technique Burnout - 焼き切れ Yakikire

Once a Domain has been dispelled, the caster has difficulty using their Technique as it suffers
from "burnout," becoming "temporarily disabled and uncontrollable". The extent of this
burnout depends on the caster's skill and innate strength.152 CT burnout is similar to a machine
overheating and behaving erratically; all you can usually do is what for it to cool down. A
burnt-out Technique can be healed with Reverse Cursed technique so that the cooldown
period is lessened.153 See Healing with Reverse Cursed technique for detail.

Translation Note: Domains and 'Neutralize'

The contentious and ambiguous word 'neutralize' in the explanation of a DE's powers is 中和 chuuwa
as seen in Ch. 82. It can also be translated as 'counter'.

There is some debate as to whether a Domain simply counters a Technique's attack, bypassing the
defensive CTs that would normally inoculate the sorcerer against the guaranteed hit, or whether it is
altogether disabled within the DE, or whether CTs are only barred activation in surekill DEs
specifically. However, Charles uses his CT within Hakari's DE154, Mei's previously summoned crow
remains active when trapped in the Smallpox Deity's DE155, and Gojo cannot avoid being hit by Jogo's
DE's attack using Infinity while in Jogo's DE156.

In summary, DE's imbued sure-hit CTs neutralizes/bypasses/counters (it is the same word as
"neutralize" above) defensive CTs like Gojo's Infinity but that Gojo is still capable of activating
Limitless within a DE. "Neutralize" in English has gradually shifted in meaning to indicate an
aggressive maneuver, i.e. "neutralize a threat," but the original meaning here, which pervades in JJK, is
"counteract" or "render ineffective".157

Split-Second Domain Expansion

DEs can be flashed for brief periods of time, e.g. Gojo and Mahito's 0.2 second DEs. The effects
of the DE's environment and Technique are reduced during a split-second cast.

Moving Domain Coordinates

The coordinates of a DE can be moved by the caster while it is active. When a DE is dispelled
after its coordinates have been moved, the entities trapped within the Domain shift location as

well. This can be used to create an environmental advantage leverageable by the caster who is
the only one aware of the movement prior to dissolving the Domain.158

0 CE Immunities
An entity with 0 Cursed Energy is not bound by the laws of closed Barriers and can choose to
"consent" to a Domain if they choose, acting as a free agent rather than being trapped
involuntarily. The guaranteed hit of a DE cannot automatically strike someone without CE
because it does not recognize them, unless the DE uses a mechanism that targets inanimate
objects, e.g. Dismantle.159

Multi-Domain Clash
In a battle of Domains, the more polished or refined Domain will overpower the weaker.160
Since the sure-hit effect is imbued into the Barrier of a Domain, the clash is between the
Barriers themselves, not the Techniques. The same clash occurs with Simple Domain versus
Domain Expansion, even though SD has no imbued CT.161 Additionally, when two or more
Domains are in a clash for dominance, the sure-hit Technique commands of all competing
Domains are negated, canceling each other out when they overlap.162 To restore a Domain's
guaranteed hit, the competing Domain must be crushed.163 In the DE tug-of-war, if one caster
takes a strong hit or one of the casters' Domains collapses, the other's sure-hit Technique will
"immediately retaliate".164 There are exceptions to these rules when an Open-Barrier DE is
involved; see below.
To bypass a defensive Technique like Limitless within a Domain clash, a disruptive
Technique like Domain Amplification must be used.
When three or more Domains clash, their Barriers and internal and external conditions
differ, and during the tug-of-war, the Barriers are vulnerable to outside attack. A fourth party
can shatter the Barriers from the outside.165 Open-Barrier Domains create several exceptions to
these mechanics.
A hole can be torn open in the shell of a Barrier using an opposing Domain, allowing
escape. This also nullifies the sure-hit Technique until the integrity of the breached Domain is
restored.166

Open-Barrier Domains
The Barriers constructed by a DE may be opened in a "masterpiece" DE where the Domain's
space is painted onto reality itself, and the outer shell of the Barrier is opened. This creates an

Open-Barrier Domain and thereby an escape route; the user can then form a Binding which
gives up the benefit of the Barrier shell trapping the target in exchange for increased range and
effectiveness. This is considered a masterpiece or "divine" application of the Technique,167 e.g.
Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine in Shibuya, Kenjaku's vs Yuki.
In a two-way Domain tug-of-war, if the two DEs negate each other due to being
equivalent in strength but the effective range of one Domain is greater than the other, then the
smaller Domain's shell can be attacked from the outside and be destroyed since Domain
Barriers are weaker on the outside, i.e. Sukuna's large Open-Barrier Domain expanding past
the shell of Gojo's Domain and dismantling it from the outside.168
Open-Barrier Domains are different from Unrefined Domains; see below.

Translation Note: Barrierless vs. Open-Barrier

In the official Viz translation of Ch. 119, Sukuna's masterpiece Domain is stated to be his Innate
Domain realized "without using a Barrier," but this is not quite accurate.

"結界を閉じず 生得領域を 具現化することは

結界 - barrier (kekkai)
を - index: 1) accusative case (object);
閉じず (it is a negative form from 閉じる) - unclosed, unlocked, open
生得 - from nature
領域 - domain
を - index: 1) accusative case (object);
具現化する - realize, materialize
こと - this
は - indicating the nominative case or subject of the sentence."169

A clearer translation: “Malevolent Shrine differs from other Domains in that it doesn’t separate space
from its barrier. The ability to materialize an Innate Domain without closing its barrier is equivalent to
drawing art not on a canvas, but on air. A truly divine technique.”

"In the 1st box,「結界で空間を分断しない」is where VIZ misses the finer nuance: it’s not that Malevolent
Shrine “doesn’t create a separate space….”; rather, the barrier doesn’t separate (分断) the airspace (空
間, existing space) from itself. Thus, the barrier isn’t constructed as a new physical space and volume;
it becomes the current space/airspace itself, and why the Domain’s barrier is seen as “invisible”."170

In Ch. 206, Viz translates this phenomenon accurately when Kenjaku expands his Domain "without
closing the Barrier". The Fanbook also clearly states masterwork DEs to have Barriers that are
unclosed.

Unrefined Domains
An unrefined Domain like Megumi's early attempts at Expansion may lack vital components,
such as a shell. Environmental containers can be forcibly used as a Domain shell under such
circumstances, e.g. the gymnasium. However, this is due to incompetence, not to mastery as
with an Open-Barrier Domain, so the tradeoff is that unrefined Domains are not imbued with a
sure-hit Technique and merely serve to extend the caster's Technique and boost it to 120% of
its power.171 They still interfere with opposing DEs regardless of whether they're using a
completed shell, e.g. Megumi vs Dagon.

Interpreting a Domain Expansion

Domain Expansions are, by implication, unique to each caster (due to each person having a
unique Innate Domain) and reflect both the unique Innate Domain and appear to reflect the
caster's sense of self/soul, e.g. Gojo's conversation with Jogo about Infinite Void, Megumi's
struggle to manifest a completed DE. Because the DE comprises these two qualities, we can
speculate that different users of the same Innate Technique may manifest uniquely different
DEs, e.g. Satoru is likely the only Gojo to create Infinite Void.

Domain Expansion History

DEs were a more common Technique for sorcerers in the past, but over time they have
become increasingly rare because sorcerers gradually began to streamline them for lethality.
Constructing a Domain intended to be lethal requires immense skill, so the number of DE users
decreased. Most ancient DEs merely forced targets within the DE's radius to obey the rules of
the Domain's Technique rather than depending on a guaranteed-hit attack.172

Domain.

Simple Domain is a Non-Innate Domain countermeasure. It mimics a standard DE, expanding a
Domain but minus the imbued Cursed Technique, with the caveat of certain shortcomings. It is
something like a 'blank' DE with no imbued Technique 'flavor'.
With an SD, the caster can neutralize the sure-hit threatened by an opposing Domain
Expansion by using its Barriers to defend against DE's opposing Barriers. Normally, a Domain
Expansion does not directly defend against Cursed Techniques themselves, rather, the Barriers
in which CTs are imbued. As seen with the Megumi vs. Reggie fight, if the caster does not close
Barriers in their DE (whether through lack of refinement or Open-Barrier skill), their Technique
does not count as a sure-hit and can still attack through Simple Domain's Barrier.173
Since SD typically expands a very small Domain radius without any Technique imbued,
it therefore lacks an offensive mechanism on its own. It can be 'programmed' with 'rules', which
are Bindings, like a Domain Expansion, and synergizes well with an offensive move such as
Batto Sword Drawing.
It appears that the caster of Simple Domain must be stationary to activate the
Technique, but is capable of moving afterward while still benefiting from effects.174 When
combined with Batto Sword Drawing, the caster must remain stationary, however, or the effect
is broken.175
Normally, one cannot use Simple Domain and manipulate CE normally at the same
time, but a skilled sorcerer can use Reverse Cursed technique while SD is activated.176

Simple Domain History

SD was created by Sadatsuna Ashiya during the Heian Era as a "Domain for the weak".
However, SD has been hoarded almost exclusively by a few influential clans using an embargo
Binding which forbids it from being taught to those outside the Big Three clans, so most
sorcerers do not know how to use the Technique. Some have seen the Technique used and
learned it regardless of the Binding, however, since the Binding did not take this loophole into
account.177

Domain Amplification - 領域展延 Ryōiki Ten'en

-Anti-DE-
or "Domain Extension"
(Damp)
Domain Amplification is an Anti-Domain Technique by which the caster wraps or cloaks
themself thinly in their Domain, allowing them to neutralize an attacker's CT if it comes into
contact with them, e.g. Gojo's Infinity.181 The Fanbook states specifically, "This means that the
attack will hit a sorcerer no matter what technique they have". A caster cannot use their Innate
Technique while Damp is active.182 As such, the caster using Damp often depends on
Taijutusu.183 Damp always neutralizes the Technique it encounters, e.g. Infinity, and weakens
the sure-hit Technique imbued into the opposing Domain.184
Damp functions similarly to Simple Domain,185 but has the "great merit" of allowing the
user to move freely when it is activated rather than requiring the caster to remain rooted in
place.186 Pushing against a Damp is "as if you're being surrounded by water," and feels similar
to the sensation of when one initially pushes back against a Domain Expansion.187
Damp is not a Barrier Technique. When Gojo thinks in Ch. 231, "Even though [Sukuna]
can't use his Domain [Expansion], he can still use Amplification. Is that because the part of the
brain that's damaged is close to the part that deals with Barrier Techniques?" This
demonstrates that Damp is not a Barrier Technique.

Translation Note: Domain Amplification Weakens Sure-Hit Technique

In Chapter 84, in the Viz official translation, Gojo says that "the chances of an attack missing will
increase, but [Damp] will always neutralize the Technique." However, this interpretation is a result of
confusion with Domains having sure-hit Techniques imbued into them. It should read more accurately,
"the sure-hit effect is weakened."189 In context, the whole quote states that using Domain
Amplification is "like the feeling when you initially push back a Domain [in a Domain battle]. Your
sure-hit effect will be weakened but [your opponent's] Cursed Technique will definitely be
neutralized."190 To explain further, "Right at the moment when a Domain battle is starting to
commence, your sure-hit effect is weakened but you can definitely neutralize your target's CT. So you
exploit these mechanics by even purposely removing your sure-hit effect [in Damp] to achieve the
same objective." What this means is likely that when two closed-Barrier Domains clash, "it's the
feeling that the sure-hit is getting weaker, but it can still neutralize the enemy Cursed Technique…and
that is what Damp users are abusing basically. They are also freeing that slot [by not using a CT] to
neutralize more of the Technique."191

No, a DE is what occurs when an ID is manifested into the physical realm using a Technique,
and given Barriers. An Innate Domain is, by definition, not a Technique nor a physical location
which can normally be accessed. It is the "mind's landscape". When Megumi attempted a DE in
Origin of Obedience versus the finger bearer, his inexperience led to a "pathetic" result--an
incomplete Domain Expansion lacking proper Barriers. In comparison, Sukuna opened the
Barrier shell in his DE in Shibuya to allow for a tradeoff using a Binding, which allowed him to
greatly extend the range of his DE. So Megumi's lack of closed Barriers was due to
incompetence and made his DE weaker, while Sukuna's opening his was intentional and made
his DE more versatile in the tradeoff. We later see Megumi force a gymnasium into acting as his
Barrier shell since it is still unrefined.

Q: What is the difference between Innate Domain, Domain Expansion,

Simple Domain, and Domain Amplification?

ID - the mind's landscape/essence, not a Technique or a physical place

DE - a powerful offensive sphere which traps and attacks the target through an imbued CT; the
physical manifestation of an ID with the CT applied
SD - a limited, stationary 'vanilla' defensive DE with only a Barrier and no CT imbued
Damp - a limited, mobile 'vanilla' DE in which the caster cloaks themself; unclear if it has
Barriers

Although not explicitly stated, it is possible that the difference between the three Techniques is
based on Bindings; there is a tradeoff, or a give-and-take exchange between each Tech for
their respective benefits/buffs and limitations. Some of these traits can be altered using a
tradeoff, such as Jogo and Hanami's Domain Amp in Shibuya sacrificing use of their Innate
Technique to increase power.194

Q: What's the difference between Reverse Cursed technique and Cursed

Technique Reversal?

RCt refers to the ability to create Positive Energy, which can be used to Heal or to power
Reversal. RCt is not a Cursed Technique, but is instead a form of CE manipulation. Reversal
refers to the reversed or inverted effect of an Innate CT, e.g. Red. The kanji for RCt and Reversal
are the same but swapped.
RCt - Hanten Jujutsushiki
Reversal - Jujutsushiki Hanten

Q: How did Gojo kill Hanami in Shibuya?

He used Infinity to crush Hanami.

Initially he baited Hanami into dropping Domain Amplification, which was protecting
Hanami from Gojo's Infinity. He took advantage of this moment to tear out Hanami's eye-trees,
which are their weak point. Hanami re-enabled Damp, but then Gojo pressured Hanami with
Infinity by overpowering their Damp. Hanami was crushed to death almost instantaneously by
Gojo expanding Infinity, similar to how a hydraulic press acts on an object.
Normally, Damp would have been sufficient to negate Infinity, but Hanami was unable
to keep up a strong Damp active in their weakened state.

Six Eyes - 六眼 Rikugan

(6E)
Gojo clan, Satoru Gojo
The Six Eyes are an "inherited" or "innate gift/trait," not stated to be a CT, which allow the user
to see the flow of Cursed Energy on a level completely beyond a normal sorcerer, like high
definition infrared vision195, and control CE to an extremely precise and efficient degree.196 The
level of efficiency is so great that the energy loss when Gojo activates a Cursed Technique is
"infinitesimally close to zero."197 Their ability to 'read' the flow of CE uniquely empowers the
user to watch a CT when it is in use, read its CE flow, and often determine the nature of the
Technique.198
The Six Eyes are "an idiosyncrasy of the Gojo clan that allows them to see through a
target/subject's techniques and detect CE" 199, meaning that only a Gojo can acquire the 6E.
Additionally, the 6E is connected by fate to Tengen and the Star Plasma Vessel, and only one
6E bearer can exist at a time.200 The 6E, it seems, is fated to be the SPV's guardian until their
merger with Tengen.
Sorcerers can see Residuals and the CE around another person, but 6E are so potent
that the CE flow of the user's surroundings can be seen even when their eyes are covered, and

leaving the eyes uncovered at all times causes fatigue.201 The 6E appears to be a passive trait,
costing no CE, as demonstrated when Gojo is sealed inside the Prison Realm and immediately
notices time does not pass within (likely using 6E), replacing his blindfold to reduce the fatigue.
It is the 6E exclusively that allow a Limitless user to execute their Technique. In the
Japanese raws, it appears that Limitless is unusable without Six Eyes. See Translation Note for
full details discussing the Japanese raws on this contentious topic.

Translation Note: Six Eyes, Natural Gift, and Gojo Clan Exclusivity
The 6E are a trait or ability exclusive to the Gojo clan and are an inherited or natural gift. See
translator notes from a translator on the side note on Fanbook p. 158:

"It is a natural gift/innate gift/innate ability that is essential for perfectly handling the Limitless…an
idiosyncrasy of the Gojou clan that allows them to see through a target/subject's techniques and
detect CE."

"It calls it...a natural ability....like...someone born tall is good at basketball. People with big hands play
piano well...that sort of "natural gift". That 6 eyes passage confirms it. 6 Eyes is Gojou family
specific.202 "

Another translator also calls the 6E inherited. "Under the limitless, approaching things are just
perpetually getting closer in “convergence”. Gojo family’s inherited “Limitless cursed technique”
realizes the infinity to be a barrier which is able to block any contact."203

The word translated "idiosyncrasy" here is 特異体質 tokui taishitsu and "innate talent/natural gift" 天
賦の才 tenpu no sai.

Heavenly Restriction - Zero Cursed Energy

(0-CE HR)
 Toji Fushiguro, Maki Zen'in
This rare occurrence of Heavenly Restriction takes all the Cursed Energy from the user's body,
and in exchange, grants them preternatural physical speed, strength, and bodily durability.
Such a person can uniquely bypass Barriers and their Binding rules, including those in Domain
Expansions. They are uniquely endowed with the ability to break free from Fate; the meaning
of this is unclear and it may be a subjective statement of Tengen's.

Innate Techniques
Anti-Gravity System - 反重力機構 Anchigurabiti Shisutemu /
Anti-Gravity System [Han Jūryoku Kikō]
 Kaori Itadori, Kenjaku
The full potential of Anti-Gravity is unknown since we have primarily only seen its Reversal in
use by Kenjaku. Anti-Gravity can be used by the caster to negate the pull of gravity from a
specific direction, e.g. Yuki's Black Hole.
A skilled Jujutsu user can "use the body as a Domain" in tandem with this Technique to
"raise the Technique Lapse's limit on the activation time and unsteady output".204

Gravity
 Reversal
The caster can create a zone of intensified gravity around themself, which crushes targets'
mass into the Earth while they remain inside the 2-3 meter area of effect. The duration of the
effect is 6 seconds.205

Translation Note: Anti-Gravity System

"Kanji is 機構 (mechanism) but furigana reads システム (system)."206

Womb Profusion - 胎蔵 Taizō

 or "All-Enveloping Garbhadhatu"
 DE
This Domain's sure-hit is the same effect of Gravity, but expanded beyond its originally small
radius within the bounds of the Domain to crush its targets into the Ground with great force.
Simple Domain in the hands of a powerful sorcerer can temporarily withstand its effects.
Kenjaku has demonstrated a masterwork Womb Profusion Expansion similar to
Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine in Shibuya, using open Barriers. It is unclear if Kenajku received a
powerup via a Binding for this omission.207
When Kenjaku/Kaori's Domain is expanded, a tower of large, fused-together faces
appears next to him. The full interior appearance of the Domain is unknown since we have only
seen an open-Barrier manifestation.

concept of the Womb Realm.

"Kanji breakdown: 胎蔵 (taizou), probably taken from 胎蔵界 (taizoukai), in Buddhism refer to Womb
Realm, a space inhabited by Five Compassion Buddha, and said to encompass everything, and to
nurture a person. 遍 (hen) means spreading or widespread. 野 means an area. The full name means
something along “the spreading of the womb”."208

"The Garbhadhatu Mandala always centers - a primary aspect of the Buddha, because it depicts the
space where he revealed his secret teachings to his disciple from his 'womb of great compassion'."209

Additionally, the word "all-enveloping" here can have negative connotations; while it literally means
'blanketing the countryside', it is used to mean 'everywhere' and is a component of Chinese four
character idioms (Chengyu) such as "starving corpses everywhere" or "disaster victims
everywhere".210

Mudra: Womb Profusion

Kenjaku's mudra is associated with the Buddha Shakyamuni.
"Instead of the usual hand seals shirushi (印), Kenjaku’s hand seal
is different. Unlike the others, his hand seal is one of the 十二合掌
(juunigassho) (literal translation; twelve Anjali mudra). His hand
seal forms 反叉合掌 (honsho gassho), interlocking fingers. In
esoteric Buddhism, Twelve gassho reflects the process of Buddha
in defeating Mara and reaching enlightenment.

To be noted that in esoteric Buddhism, right hand reflects the

Buddha world (金剛界 ; kongokai or vajradhatu; the diamond
realm), while left hand reflects the human world (胎蔵界 ; taizoukai or garbhakosa; the womb realm).
The symbolism of Kenjaku’s hand seal might refer to him reaching enlightenment (which has a strong
association with Gojou) coming from the human world."211

This can be translated "Flame Brave" so Blazing Courage is not a bad translation.
"焦眉之赳 Shobi no kyu comes from 焦眉の急 shobi no kyu. Gege plays with words here. 焦眉の急 is a

Blood Manipulation - 赤血操術 Sekketsu Sōjutsu

Kamo Clan, Noritoshi Kamo Jr., Choso
Blood Manipulation halts the blood's coagulation, allowing casteres to control their blood
inside and outside of their body, as well as “whatever touches [the caster’s] blood.” 214 Different
Blood Manipulation Technique applications can be combo'd to great effect. The Technique is
versatile, capable of both long and short range attacks, and has been passed down hereditarily
within the Kamo Clan.
The Technique's two major weaknesses are that the caster can run out of blood to
wield and that blood can be interfered with, rendering the caster vulnerable.215 Mixing water
with blood whose coagulation has been halted by Blood Manip dissolves the blood more easily
than is typical. Blood exposed to water is exposed to osmotic pressure, resulting in the red
blood cells' membrane tearing and losing its usefulness and potency.216
Death Paintings overcome the risk of blood loss due to a unique attribute that allows
them to transform CE into blood.217 Human Blood Manip users carry blood bags to be drawn
upon during combat.

hardened as with Blood Meteorite.218

Blood Meteorite - 血星磊 Kesseiseki

 Ext
Blood imbued and compressed to its very limit can be hardened and formed into a dense
projectile to be launched at an opponent. It lacks the power and speed of Piercing Blood.219

Convergence - 百斂 Byakuren
 Ext
Convergence compresses blood, which weaponizes it for the caster to use in different
interpretations of Blood Manipulation. Blood can also be hardened around body parts to form a
strong protective layer. However, hardening blood within the body increases the risk of sudden
thrombosis, the formation of vasculature-clogging clots, so this is a high-risk move.220

Crimson Binding- 赤縛 Sekibaku

 Ext
Blood can be formed into a rope or net to instantly bind an opponent.221

Flowing Red Scale - 赤鱗躍動 Sekirin Yakudō

 Ext
The caster can manipulate blood within their own body to increase physical performance.222
Since the user has the ability to control blood in any form, they can manipulate “body
temperature, pulse rate, number of red blood cells, [as well as] blood composition” in order to
optimize the user’s physical condition. This can be compared to doping.223
Flowing Red Scale can be used as a Stack move, greatly strengthening the caster's
ability.224

Piercing Blood - 穿血 Senketsu

The caster briefly charges up a beam of weaponized blood with a sharp arrowhead point
between their palms, aims, and fires a shot at supersonic speeds.225 The beam is a long, thick
rope of blood which can be pulled by the caster after firing. Piercing Blood moves fastest at the

Body Hopping (?)

Kenjaku/Brain/Getwo
This Technique allows the user to inhabit the corpse of another person. The user replaces the
corpse's brain with their own, the only remaining part of their original body, and possesses the
new body. The possessed body bears a characteristic scar on its forehead where the top of the
skull detaches to reveal the brain, which has a set of teeth resembling a Cursed Spirit's.
Kenjaku uses stitches to hold the 'skull cap' in place. The scarring cannot be healed due to a
Binding, although the details of this Binding are unclear. The interloping Brain can use the
original body's Cursed Technique as well as their Body Hopping Technique.228

Boogie Woogie - 不義遊戯 Bugi Ugi / Boogie Woogie [Fugi Yūgi]

Aoi Todo

The user can cause their body parts to explode and cause significant damage. The body parts
can be torn off the body and thrown at a target like grenades. We can speculate that some
body parts might cause more damage than others depending on their value, e.g. eyes, teeth. If
this were true, it would operate off of the principle of an implicit Binding as with other jujutsu.

Construction - 構築術式 Kōchiku Jutsushiki

Mai Zenin, Yorozu
The user creates objects using their Cursed Energy; however, the size of the object is limited to
the amount of CE that the user possesses. The object will not disappear after the Technique is
finished. Due to the fact that a large amount of CE is used, this Technique leaves repercussions
on the body.230
Mai is able to sacrifice all of her Cursed Energy and her life to construct an exact replica
of the Special Grade Cursed Tool, Split Soul Katana. This even appears to take place in an
Innate Domain shared with her twin sister.231

Insect Armor -虫の鎧 Mushi no Yoroi

Yorozu
The caster Constructs a unique liquid metal with a "changeable volume yet stable physical
properties due to semi-autonomous Cursed Energy". The caster forms the liquid into "flesh
armor" made by clustering or "aggregating" together numerous biological functions, in
imitation of the capabilities of specific insects: long-distance stamina, energy efficiency, and the
capability of lifting many times the weight of one's own body. The caster can then freely
manipulate their armor as long as they feed CE into it. Reversed Cursed Technique neutralizes
and erases the Cursed Energy flowing through the liquid metal, rendering the armor out of the
caster's control.232

True Perfect Sphere - 真球 Shin Kyū

Ext
The caster creates a "true sphere," normally considered impossible to materialize since it is a
concept that does not physically exist. Its contact area "doesn't exist" so it can exert an infinite
amount of pressure on any object it touches. Explanation by Shishiso team:
"If a perfect sphere were to exist physically, then any point on the sphere would be akin
to a needle point with an infinitesimally small surface area. So, the sphere would exert
an infinite amount of pressure on anything upon contact…Yorozu's "true sphere" is
analogous to a sphere having a surface of infinitely many, infinitely thin needles that
scrapes off everything in its path".233

Threefold Suffering - 重疾苦 Shikku Shikku Shikku / Sick Sick Sick [Sanjū

DE
The Domain's imbued sure-hit Technique is True Sphere. If the caster activates True Sphere,
the targets within disappear, as they are unable to survive physical contact with a surface
exerting infinite pressure.

"The furigana is simply the term 'suffering' repeated three times, but it's also a common onomatopoeia
for sobbing.

"It's possible this is referencing the Buddhist concept of 三苦 'three categories of suffering'," suffering
of suffering, suffering of change, and suffering of existence. "三重苦 is also used for the triple handicap
of being blind, deaf, and mute."235

Contractual Re-creation - 再契象 Saikesshō

 Reggie Star
The caster can manifest goods and services acquired through contracts, using the paper
'receipt' from the contract. Physical items act like shikigami when summoned, allowing the
caster to choose a velocity and direction they want the object to move.236

Copy - 模倣 Kopī / Copy [Mohō]

or "Mimicry"
Yuta Okkotsu

Rika, which is unique to Yuta and retains remnants of the original's will237, is part of the Cursed
Technique and stores Cursed Energy for the caster. While the caster is connected to Rika
through Yuta's ring, which functions similarly to a Medium, the caster can use Copy Technique,
Rika is fully manifested, and Rika provides a CE supply to the caster. Yuta Okkotsu can maintain
a sustained connection to Rika for five minutes at a time.238 The condition the caster must

Yuta's mudra is associated with Dakini. "Dakini is a type of

among beliefs, ranging from flesh-eating female demons, similar to Kali in Hinduism, to goddess
associated with constituents of human body."242

Translation Note: External Storage 外付け

"Everyone started implying that the current Rika is Okkotsu's CT because of what was written in
chapter 178. In fact, it is a mistake of the translators…

While in the raws, Gege put an emphasis symbol in the raw 外付け which means “external storage”.
This term is usually used in “external SSD or Hard-disk drive”. So Rika is a kind of external storage for
CT and CE.

So, actually, the TCB translation is correct for this one."243

Cursed Speech - 呪言 Jugon

Toge Inumaki
Cursed Speech influences opponents or objects using words infused with CE. Users bear
tattoos around their mouths, the 'snake and fang', which signify their speech is cursed. It is
unknown whether they are born with the tattoos. They cannot speak normally without the risk
of cursing others, and rely on code language and nonsense words to communicate.

Cursed Spirit Manipulation - 呪霊操術 Jurei Sōjutsu

(CSM)
Suguru Geto
Cursed Spirit Manipulation allows the user to compress Cursed Spirits into a sphere and
swallow them to gain control over the Curse. It appears that the user can swallow an indefinite
number of spheres. CSM can "reassemble" or "combine" Curses, but this ability is largely
useless because it makes it difficult to use the Techniques of more powerful Curses.244
The consumed Spirits can be deployed and commanded, and when summoned, they
emerge near the caster, trailing an inky liquid substance that resembles a dripping Curtain as it
descends on an area. The compressed Spirits taste like rags used to wipe up vomit and filth.245
A Curse is difficult to obtain and compress if the Grade of the Curse is too high
compared to the user's, or if the Curse has a master/servant relationship with someone else,
e.g. Toji and Worm Curse in Hidden Inventory.

Uzumaki - うずまき
Max
Uzumaki combines all Cursed Spirits absorbed by the user and strikes an opponent with

Translation Note: Fugue / Shrine

In Shibuya, Sukuna uses his Technique to kill Jogo, activating it by saying "Open". The kanji for open 開
's normal reading is kai but Sukuna pronounces it "fuuga," written in Katakana, which can be used to
indicate an invented or foreign word; it may be the musical term "fugue" or a homonym related to
amnesia in this case. In Gege's previous one-shot, No. 9, the main character chants "Fugue" to open
his box, in which he stores weapons.253

Dismantle (Adapted)
Sukuna uses Makora's wheel to adapt and evolve Dismantle so that it cuts through space and
existence. The target is no longer merely the caster's opponent, it is the world itself; if the
target exists in the space being cut, their existence is split in half along with everything else.
This allows it to nullify the inviolability of any defensive Technique, i.e. Gojo's Infinity ward.256

Cleave - 捌 Hachi
 Ext
Cleave is a secondary slashing attack which can be adjusted depending on the level of Cursed
Energy the target has. The Japanese implies this is an automatic adjustment, not unlike Gojo's
automatic Infinity filter.

Translation Note: Cleave Auto-Adjustment

In response to Cleave failing to cut both the Finger Bearer and Ryu, respectively, into the intended
number of slices:
"呪力差・強度に応じ一太刀で対象を降ろす「捌」
By responding to the cursed energy level and toughness (of the target), cleave cuts the target in one
fell swoop (Ch. 119).

"It definitely reads as if the cleave is automatic in JP, and it's not something like Sukuna himself
manually adjusts because of the word 応じる (to respond/to depend upon). The one that is responding
to the target's toughness is the slices (ie. the cleaves). The fanbook further confirms this. The slice in
itself responds to the target and adjusts its potency automatically to make sure that it cuts the target
in one fell swoop. Sukuna can probably adjust the shape or amount of the cleave he releases, but this
in itself is unrelated to the causality between the target's toughness and the target being cut in one
fell swoop. In short, the dependent variable is the cleave cutting the target in one fell swoop. And its
independent variable is the target's toughness, and not Sukuna's intention."257

Cleave: Spiderweb
Cleave can apply to a large surface area, spiderwebbing into a radius and then applying its
slashing as an area of effect attack.258

Lore: Spider's Thread

Some fans have speculated that Spiderweb refers to the famous tale "The Spider's Thread" 蜘蛛の糸,
Kumo no Ito by Ryūnosuke Akutagawa, a 1918 short story from the children's magazine Akai Tori. In
the story, the Buddha lowers a Paradisical spider's thread into Hell to free Kandata and, inadvertently,

Malevolent Shrine - 伏魔御厨子 Fukuma Mizushi

or "Demonic Feretory"
 DE
Malevolent Shrine creates a shrine at the center of the Domain. In its full form, it uses an open
Barrier,260 which is "akin to an artist painting a masterpiece not on a canvas, but in the air. A
truly divine Technique". By allowing an escape route due to the open Barrier, a Binding is
leveraged where the DE's guaranteed hit range expands to nearly 200 meters. The range can
also be manually narrowed by the caster.261
The Domain's guaranteed hit is a vicious and massively destructive attack using both
Cleave and Dismantle on all entities within its radius. Anything with Cursed Energy is hit with
Cleave, and anything with no Cursed Energy is hit with Dismantle.

Mudra: Malevolent Shrine

Sukuna's mudra is associated with Enmaten / Yama. "Enmaten is
more famously known as King of Hell, he is a deity who governs
fate, death, and underworld. He passes judgements to soul of
people who had died, to send them to the appropriate afterworld.
He is often depicted to have fierce expression. He is also the
protector deity of south direction."262

Translation Note: Cleave and Dismantle

When describing the sure-hit attack of Malevolent Shrine, Chapter 119 in the Viz translation states
"for anything with Cursed Energy within range–Cleave. For inanimate objects–Dismantle". However,
the Japanese was changed in the volume tankoubon release, where Dismantle is "said to be used for
things without Cursed Energy".263

"Now, Sukuna's Domain Expansion is called 伏魔御廚子 Fukuma Mizushi, translated as Malevolent
Shrine. A 'zushi' is a miniature Buddhist feretory; 'mi' is a honorific prefix. But the name might also be
a reference to the Mizushidokoro, the Imperial Kitchen that served the emperor.

We've seen Sukuna chop and dice things multiple times. The technique is called 解 Kai, translated as
Dismantle. It could also be for 解体 Kaitai, a term for slaughtering and butchering meat.

Ch 119 of Jujutsu Kaisen. The aori reads: "A delicious death begins with meticulous mise en place,"
and we get the name of another technique: 捌 Hachi, translated as Cleave. 捌く Sabaku is another term
for cutting up fish or meat, so yeah, chef Sukuna is all but confirmed…Kai seems to be represented by
a deba, while Hachi is a takohiki, which is interesting given their different functions."264

Extinguish - 消滅 Shōmetsu
 Angel / Hana Kurusu
This Technique can "negate" or "extinguish" other Techniques, including those in Cursed
Objects or Barriers, both of which include Prison Realm.265 There is a rare chance it can revert
possessed Incarnations to their original state by stripping the Curse away, but it is more likely
that the Vessel will die because the Cursed Object and the body may fuse.266
See FAQ for the difference between Extinguish, Black Rope, and Inverted Spear of
Heaven.

Jacob's Ladder - 邪去悔の梯子 Yakobu no Hashigo

The caster chants, summoning an enormous symbol in the sky which strikes the target with a
large beam of light, causing major damage.267

Lore: Jacob's Ladder

"邪去侮 (Yakobu, Jacob) is a combination of Kanji that roughly means "getting rid of evil," perfectly
suiting its purpose against the "Fallen Angel" (堕天)."268 Jacob's Ladder refers to a passage in the
Jewish Torah and Christian Bible in which God shows Jacob a dream of angels ascending and
descending a ladder from the earth to the heavens. Interpretations vary, but traditionally Jewish
Rabbis view the ladder as prayer, representing the link between the spiritual and earthly worlds, or as
a parallel to Mt. Sinai, aka the altar of God which atones for sins so that man can draw near to him.269
The Christian gospel of John recounts Jesus Christ citing this passage and identifying himself as the
ladder or way between heaven/God and earth.270

There are a number of theories about the primary symbol Hana summons–that it is a Sigillum Dei, a
Septagram, or a Setogram. The symbol, particularly the septagram/heptagram, appears to originate in
kabbalah or Jewish mysticism (not a Star of David, as it does not have enough points). The cross
potent on the edges of the circle is related to the ancient Chinese word for witch/shaman and is also a
variant of Christian crosses from the Byzantine empire.271

Star Rage - 星の怒り Bom-Ba-Ye [Hoshi no Ikari]

 or "Wrath of the Star"
Yuki Tsukumo
The caster imbues themself or the Shikigami Garuda with "virtual mass". Garuda, which can be
turned into a Cursed Tool by the caster, is the only other entity that can be targeted with Star
Rage. The added mass does not add true weight that slows down the caster or Garuda, but
still acts against a target of the caster's Taijutsu or Garuda's impact. A virtually massive attack
is bolstered by immense force, as if they truly contained the "virtual mass" assigned to them.272

"Due to herself or her shikigami having an imaginary mass aspect, we can conclude
Kenjaku can see the ball and its speed, but he can't see what the imaginary length of
the mass is inside…And adding more mass to her or her shikigami doesn't influence her
or shikigami's speed too (Kenjaku said this in this chapter). So it would not make
shikigami or her any slower no matter how heavy they become…
In Gojo's case, we use imaginary numbers only as a tool in Euclidean space, not
as something that actually exists. But Gojo's CT can turn this imaginary length into
reality, which causes reality to reject it and react to it. Which leads to the effect of
pushing out or pulling in (Red and Blue)
Yuki, on the other hand, adds this imaginary length to increase the weight when
touched. And it looks like she can limit it.
And unlike mass, weight does not depend on the internal properties of an
object, but is determined by gravity. That's why Yuki's speed/weight doesn't change,
but her internal properties (mass) changes."273

Black Hole
While the caster is unaffected by Star Rage's alterations in mass, this only holds true up until a
certain density. The caster can increase their virtual mass past this threshold to titanic
amounts, transforming their body into a black hole. To use this skill means suicide for the
caster, however, as their body's mass is condensed into a tiny volume. Black Hole can be
countered by Anti-Gravity.274

Translation Note: Star Rage and Garuda

Star Rage / Wrath of the Star is written in kanji but spelled out as 'Bom-Ba-Ye', referencing the
crowd's chant from a match between famous boxer Muhammad Ali and George Foreman in 1974. The
late, well-known Japanese wrestler Antonio Inoki also invoked this in his entrance theme, a gift from
Ali.

Garuda is written as 凰輪 'phoenix wheel' and spelled out as 'Garuda' in the furigana. Phoenix here
refers to 鳳凰 Hō-ō (Japanese) or 凤凰 Fenghuang (Chinese), a firebird present in numerous Eastern
mythologies. They look similar in appearance to the Western phoenix, although they are not the same
kind of creature, and are associated with fire, the sun, and the imperial or royal family. "Yuki's
Shikigami is female because…凤凰 actually refers to a mated pair of eastern phoenixes, with 凤
representing the male and 凰 representing the female."275

Cursed Energy Discharge: Granite Blast

 Ryu Ishigori
This Technique releases a powerful, explosive burst of CE from the caster's hair.276 Whether
the caster is using their CT or not, they have the same level of attack output.

Domain Expansion
Ryu's DE is currently unknown.

Mudra: Ryu's Domain Expansion

Ryu's mudra is associated with Kujaku Myo-ou /
Mahamayuri. "Mahamayuri is a female bodhisattva, whose
name means “Great Peacock”. She is depicted to have three
faces and four arms. Because peacock eats poisonous
snakes such as cobra and other pests, Mahamayuri became
known to be able to protect her followers from pain and
disasters. She is also believed to be able to protect people from poisoning, either physically or
spiritually."277

G Warstaff - G戦杖 Jī Senjō

 Charles Bernard
The caster can summon a large ink pen-staff hybrid weapon. When the user touches a target
with the pen, the condition is fulfilled for the pen to be filled with ink. The caster can then mark
their target with a small manga panel, via which the caster can see the target's very near
future approximately one second in advance to its occurrence. The more ink fills the pen, the
farther into the future this clairvoyance stretches. Warstaff allows the caster to see the future,
but it does not grant them the ability to hear future sounds as seen when Charles can forsee
Hakari's Domain Expansion pose but is not aware that he will say "Domain Expansion".
Through this we can infer it is likely the caster cannot taste, smell, or touch future visions
either.
This Tech's greatest weakness is that it only allows the caster clairvoyance into their
physical field of vision. When attacked from a blind spot, the caster cannot see the future.278

Haircraft (?)
 Hanyu, Haba
The caster's hair can morph into a set component of an aircraft, granting the user special
mobility. The user's body parts are significantly less sturdy the farther away they are from their
hair, most likely due to a Binding.279 Little is explicitly stated about this Tech, but so far there
seem to be two variations, which may be different mutations of the baseline CT.280
Jet
 Hanyu
The caster's hair morphs into the engines and wings of a jet, allowing the user to fly and burst
toward a direction at a high velocity, inflicting enough impact damage to pulverize the average
target.
Helicopter
 Haba
The user's hair can morph into helicopter blades, allowing for flight. The caster can adjust the
propeller's length, angle, rotational velocity, and toughness. This may be due to a Binding, as is
the case with many CTs. The propeller is strong enough to cut through steel.

Hand Projection (?)

 Jinichi Zenin, Chojuro Zenin
The caster can project and control an enormous manifestation of their hands. Nothing is
explicitly stated about this Tech, but so far there seem to be two variations, which may be
different mutations of the baseline CT.281

Air Variation (?)
 Jinichi Zenin
The caster throws punches into the air, and the punches are projected in the form of immense
fists in the air. The CT creates multiple identical facsimile hands, up to at least seven at once. It
is unclear whether the caster can use Hand Projection for actions other than punches. The
physical makeup of the hands is unknown. Air Variation projection hands mimic the caster's
movements.
Earth Variation (?)
 Chojuro Zenin
The caster must touch the earth or a surface connected to the earth to project large hands and
arms out of the ground. The construct appears to be made of earth. Earth Variation does not
mimic the caster's movements the way that Air Variation does; rather, the caster remains
immobile with their hands touching the chosen surface, and the facsimile hands operate
according to the caster's will.

Hanging (?)
Mimiko Hasaba
This Tech seems to only have been used in tandem with Nanako's Photo Manipulation
Technique. The caster uses a rope to hang a human effigy, and the hanging is projected onto a
victim when the caster takes a photo of them simultaneously using Photo Manip Tech.282 The
details of this CT are unknown.

Ice Formation - 氷凝呪法 Hikori Juhō

Iteboshi Uraume
Ice formation generates and manipulates ice for attack. The caster can use it for large-scale
attacks, such as a thick, serpentine rope of ice bristling with crystals of ice, which the caster can
launch at their target. The caster can also generate a small, sharp icicle from their finger with
which to attack in close combat.283
If the caster is inhibited by poison, the ice is 'deactivated' and collapses.

Lore: Ice Formation, Uraume, and Unai

The kanji for Uraume's Ice Formation appears in the Noh play Motomezuka (The Sought-for Grave). It
involves a maiden named Unai who chose the hellfire of Sukuna over paradise, and a marsh covered in
ice. The kanji also appear in the Man'yoshu (Collection of Ten Thousand Leaves), in which the waters
of a river have frozen over.

Idle Transfiguration - 無為転変 Mui Tenpen

Mahito
under construction
This Tech manipulates the shape of the soul, and therefore the shape of the body. It can
transfigure anything corporeal with a soul into various forms. There is a limit to what the
human body can be morphed into, as seen in Mahito's experiments with shrunken or
gargantuan humans. A transfigured human body cannot live long.
One can guard against this Tech by protecting their soul with CE, which requires a
sense of the self's soul.

Translation Note: Idle Transfiguration

"...if you're wondering where the phrase "Mui Tenpen" comes from: In Japanese there's a Buddhist
phrase called "Ui tenpen" (有為転変) that basically means impermanence (in other words, that
everything undergoes change and nothing is constant). "Mui" (無為) is the antonym of "Ui," and so it's
highly likely that Mui Tenpen is derived from this phrase.
This. Muitenpen comes from Uitenpen.

The significance of "Ui" to "Mui" comes from the meaning of "Ui" in Uitenpen. "Ui" in this case means
'changes due to natural/divine causes". "natural/divine cause" is not a great translation but its the
buddhist concept of a 'primary cause' and all effects follow it. Essentially "cause and effect" with
philosophy.

So "Mui" is the opposite of that. Intentional change breaking the natural flow of events."286

Immortality allows the user to live on without dying of natural causes, similar to a tree. Every

their will/ego, the user can merge with a new Star Plasma Vessel every 500 years to avoid
evolving.288 The SPV's fate is intertwined with that of the Immortality user and the Six Eyes.289

Arata Nitta

Awasaka Jiro

Limitless - 無下限 Mukagen

Gojo Clan, Gojo Satoru291
Limitless alters space by pushing and pulling. It is apparently impossible to use Limitless
without the Six Eyes292. The last Limitless & Six Eyes user combo was born in the Gojo clan
400 years prior to Satoru, not 100, which was a mistranslation by Viz.

Translation Note: Limitless is Unusable Without Six Eyes

Historically, there has been some debate over this topic due to some ambiguity in the Japanese, plus a
mistranslation by Viz. However, after seeing three translators weigh in, the conclusion I find most
likely is that Limitless is not usable at all without Six Eyes.

Full notes and Japanese translations from multiple JP speakers here:

Limitless Unusable Without Six Eyes - TL Notes 293

Summary:
● It is stated in a Volume 2 Extra294 that only Gojo can use Limitless because he possesses the
Six Eyes.
● The Fanbook295 states that the Six Eyes enable one to use/operate Limitless fully/perfectly.
However, this ambiguity does not necessarily imply that 6E are needed to optimize or
maximize the Limitless, or that Limitless is usable without 6E.
● This is further clarified in the recent Jump GIGA Autumn 2022 Q&A296 which states that the
Six Eyes are necessary to use Limitless, with no ambiguity.

They later corrected this in the volume release:

In the Fanbook it says specifically,

and the strongest jujutsu sorcerer in modern times."

Blue - 蒼 Ao
or "Azure"
Lapse
Blue in its basic form pulls things by creating a vacuum, which sucks matter towards itself. It
can be used to compress objects.
Gojo's physical strikes powered by Blue are stacked with its suction effect in addition to
being reinforced with Cursed Energy. The sensation of being struck with such a strike feels like
"getting hit with a counter" or a "critical hit" and can cause even a Special Grade opponent to
vomit.298
Blue's incantation, which is omitted in subtraction, is "Phase. Twilight. Eyes of Prajna."

Translation Note: Blue
"Limitless Jujutsu is not only mathematical in nature, but also has color representations that denote
blooming of flowers through its kanji…Blue, the bluish hue of grass like in deep lush forests."299

Infinity - 無限 Mugen
Lapse
Infinity is what we collectively call the use of Blue, which is reinforced Limitless, and which
forms a shield of "inviolable space" 不可侵 fukashin300 around the user.301 It effectively slows
things down infinitely as they approach the user. Infinity can be set to run automatically at all
times, and can be 'programmed' to filter out specific substances and objects, such as poison,
fire, or a foe's strike. Running Infinity 24/7 fatigues and damages the user's brain, so Satoru
runs RCt at all times to preserve his mental faculties.302
Infinity gives opponents the impression that they're hitting the caster by altering their
perception of space, when in reality they're not touching the caster at all.303

Red - 赫 Aka
Ext, Reversal
Red functions as the inverse of Blue, pushing entities rather than pulling. It can be used to
violently blast targets away. It is nearly impossible to activate Reversal without causing

The kanji 虚式 can mean 'imaginary', 'void', 'hollow', or 'false'.

Someone who has mastered Purple can omit its incantation and its Hand Seal, but these may

"九綱 Kukō, 偏光 Henkō, 烏と声明 Karasu Shōmyō, 表裏の間 Hyōri no Hasamo"
"Nine principles. Polarized light. Crow and Shomyo chant. The rift between and
without."310
"Nine ropes. Polarized Light. Crow and declaration. Between front and back."311

Translation Note: Hollow Purple Incantation

Mixture of TL note sources below. Shishiso312 is in blue and Lightning313 is in green.

"九綱 'Nine Principles.' Can also refer to classes in biological taxonomy or rope/nets, though the latter
usually uses a different pronunciation."

"(lit. Nine Ropes): The literal TL is misleading, rather, it refers to Kyushu written in Chinese (the
reading くこう (kukou) doesn't exist in JP). Kyushu is historically regarded as a cultural gateway to Japan
due to its proximity to Asia; in fact, both trade & knowledge came from China through here too.

Nihon Shoki, one of Gege's influences for JJK, also reports JP Buddhism being introduced from China
through Kyushu. It’s also believed the earliest people to inhabit Japan came thru Kyushu’s islands.
Thus, you could consider Kyushu to signify the "beginning,” the roots of both Japan and its culture."

"偏光 'Polarized Light.' Light with the same vibration direction."

"Without getting technical, think of it as 1/2 of natural light. This chant piece seems random at first...
until you realize Red's Kanji 赫 means “illuminate; be brilliant.” And Kyushu is known for its lush
grasslands of bluish green... same as Blue's 蒼. Thus it can be inferred 九綱 + 偏光 are references to
Blue 蒼 & Red 赫! Even cooler, it uses Kyushu as a foundation for the history of Japan, of Jujutsu."

"烏と声明 'Crow and Shomyo Chant.' Shomyo is a style of Buddhist chant specific to Japanese esoteric
Buddhism."

"The crow is a celebrated bird in Japan, considered Divine in old stories and bringing good fortune.
Shomyo is a collection of Buddhist chants/sutras in Japan. They were vocal prayers and songs used in
shrines, both for the gods and to celebrate prosperity of emperors during the Nara/Heian era. Thus, it
can be said that「烏と声明」symbolize Divine aspects of the Purple incantation itself."

"(Chasm of Front and Back): We can figure this out with a bit more context. First, 間 is read as
"hazama," same reading as Kenjaku's "space" in Ch. 160. But is it the same space as that b/w "Dreams
& Reality? No. 9 (Akutami's oneshot) may give us some insight to Gege's way of thinking. But is it the
same space as that between "Dreams and Reality"? In his old series, main character Tsukumo explains
the concept of 表 and 裏 - Front and Back. Just as there is "Life and Death," "Creation and Destruction,"
there is a duality to everything.

Just as "Reality and Dreams" are part of that same foundation, so would "Blue and Red" also be
considered as such. Thus I believe the final chant, the in-between of Front & Back — Lapse Blue 「蒼」
and Reversal Red「赫」 — is Void Purple「紫」itself. The collision of two Infinities brings forth a virtual
mass: a profound balance of the two, like how the space in 160 is both a blessing and a curse."

Unlimited Void 無量空処 - Muryōkūsho

DE
The target's mind is flooded with unlimited information and awareness at an incredible rate,
rendering them helpless and stunned, given everything but unable to do anything. This DE kills
non-sorcerers if they endure it for too long, and its enduring effects even after only 0.2 seconds
of exposure, which amounts to 6 months' worth of information, render regular humans
unconscious and require two months of rehabilitation. A 0.2 second Unlimited Void stuns
intelligent Special Grade Spirits temporarily.314 Unlimited Void does not affect Satoru or anyone
he is touching.315

Mudra: Unlimited Void

Gojo's mudra is associated with Indra / Taishakuten / Sakra.
"Sakra means “powerful” or “mighty,” and is originated from Indra.
Taishakuten is often depicted as a pair with Brahma (or Bonten)
as the greatest protector deities (dharmapala) of Buddhism. As
Indra governs other devas in heaven, Taishakuten is also depicted
to govern other 32 gods in heaven and served by the Four
Heavenly Kings (四天王 / shitennou)."316

The caster uses Limitless to teleport short and long distances by compressing space and
coordinates.317 Short-range Teleportation uses Blue. There are also tenets to Teleportation
which prevent the user from using it unconditionally. It appears that the user cannot 'clip'
through objects and cannot teleport out of an enclosed space.
To teleport entities without accompanying them on their journey, Gojo uses a drawn
circle of sigils to enclose the entities before teleporting them.318

Translation Note: Teleportation is Blue
Chapter 84 confirms that, at minimum, short-range Tele is accomplished using Blue. In the official Viz
translation, Kenjaku states of Satoru Gojo, "Using Blue for its high speed is difficult too," but the literal
translation is something like "using Blue for high speed movement,"319 with a background panel of
Gojo in Goodwill Teleporting to Juzo Kumiya.320 Satoru is confirmed to be the fastest character in the
verse using his Technique, so his high speed movement in this case is direct shown to be Blue.

Love Rendezvous - 星間飛行 Rabu Randebū / Love Rendezvous [Seikan

Hikō]
 Kirara Hoshi
This Technique follows the motif of the Southern Cross constellation. The caster stamps points
of Cursed Energy with a named star–Imai, Acrux, Mimosa, Ginan, Gacrux–which represent a
star from the constellation. The caster can easily remove or exchange the star stamps. For one
entity marked with a star to approach another, it must follow a predetermined order, nearest to
farthest from the earth in the order named above, or it will be physically pulled to another
entity marked with the same star, as with a violent magnetic force. This can be used to force
opponents to remain in specific locations until they learn the CT's pattern. 321

Translation Note: Love Rendezvous

星間飛行 means "Interstellar Flight" but the pronunciation given in the furigana, Love Rendezvous, is a
reference to the song of the same name from Macross F. Listen at the 2:22 timestamp for a Kira!

The user summons a jellyfish shikigami. The jellyfish's tendrils inflict debilitating poison
produced by CE, and the end of its oral arms can form spines with which to attack. The
jellyfish's elastic, malleable body can easily absorb the impact of physical attacks.323

Mythical Beast Amber

or "Phantom Beast: Amber"
The caster reshapes their body to "manifest any phenomena created by transforming
electricity." This includes an agility boost from the stimulation of electrical signals in the
caster's brain, sonic waves optimized and synchronized with the natural vibration frequency of
matter, and electromagnetic waves which can evaporate things exposed to them. To manifest
these elements, the caster's body must exceed the limits of humanity, and it will crumble once
the Technique finishes.324
The caster's CE normally has an electric trait, granting natural resistance to
electricity,325 and when Mythical Beast Amber is activated, their CE blazes and they grow a pair
of horns, claws, and a set of three eyes.

Paralysis Eye (?)

 Ranta Zenin
The caster renders immobile a single target within their line of sight. It appears that they must
extend their arms in the direction of the target as if holding them back, although it is unclear if
this triggers or aids in the CT's paralysis effect. The target can push back against the caster's
incorporeal grip, and if the caster loses the push battle, their eyes burst and bleed.

Photo Manipulation (?)

Nanako Hasaba
The caster can manipulate entities caught in a photograph on the caster's phone. Nanako has
used Photo Manipulation to transport her and Mimiko out of harm's way by taking a selfie with
them both in the shot. Mimiko's Hanging Tech can be used in tandem with this Tech. The
details of Photo Manipulation are largely unknown.

Private Pure Love Train - 私鉄純愛列車 Shitetsu Jun'ai Ressha

 Kinji Hakari
This Technique revolves primarily around seeking Jackpot bonuses which provide incredible
buffs to the caster. The caster rolls for randomized Visual Effects (Abilities/Attacks) in the
shape of train doors and balls, which can be used to attack a target and increase odds for
triggering a Ricchi Scenario and then a Jackpot during Domain Expansion.
The Technique itself is rife with complex rules and details, but part of its effect may be
to intentionally distract the target trapped in the Domain with such details by info-dumping.
The fundamentally important summary of Jackpots and the Idle Death Gamble rotation is that
the more the caster rolls and achieves Jackpots, the higher the gambling 'fever' and the more
Jackpots the caster will obtain because the numbers are rigged via Hidden Probability. The
caster can indefinitely sustain their CE reservoir, casting their Domain over and over with no
loss as they take advantage of windows of near-invulnerability and heal themselves from
damage.
To win against this Technique, what matters most is that the opponent discerns the
caster's vulnerabilities and counters without becoming sidetracked by calculating Jackpot
probabilities and reacting to Riichi scenarios, e.g. destroying the brain in one blow, poisoning or
paralyzing the target, etc.326

Idle Death Gamble327 - 坐殺博徒 Zasatsu Bakuto

or "Restless Gambler"
DE
Domain Rules Chart: Viz Translation | TCB Translation

In summary, Idle Death Gamble allows the caster to gamble as if they are rolling slots on a
pachinko machine to receive powerful buffs and benefits in combat from a Jackpot. IDG's
strength originates from its ability to increase its speed and odds of rolling a Jackpot with
consecutive rolls. The DE is themed around a romantic comedy manga, Private Pure Love Train
by Candy Nakamura.
The infodump dropped onto a target caught in this Domain seems in part designed
to overwhelm the victim with a seemingly complicated Technique; however, the core of the
Technique's rotation remains simple.

Jackpot Mode
Hitting the Jackpot ends IDG and grants the caster a bonus of unlimited Cursed Energy during
the round, which begins as the Pure Love Train theme, "Admiring You," resounds audibly from
the caster for 4 minutes and 11 seconds. During this round, the caster's CE and expended CT
replenish, so if the caster can hit consecutive attacks, they can chain Idle Death Gamble DE
casting indefinitely. The caster is virtually unkillable during the round and their entire brain
must be destroyed, or they must be quickly killed using poisons, toxins, or other

inhaled/absorbed substances before RCt counters it automatically. The unlimited CE bonus can
enable the caster to reflexively perform RCt even if they have not actually learned how to use
RCt outside of Jackpot.328
When Jackpot wears off after the 4:11 is up, the caster is no longer borderline immortal,
but they have an increased probability of scoring Jackpot again.

IDG Flowchart
1. When a target is trapped within the Domain, the guaranteed hit is that the details and rules of
IDG fill their mind. The effect is harmless and as such, the DE can activate in less than 0.2
seconds and is resistant to being overridden by another Domain in the 'push and pull' struggle
between DEs.329
2. The caster, who begins in Normal Mode, can begin rolling with the ultimate goal of obtaining a
Jackpot via rolling 3 of the same numbers/symbols. Visual Effects (Abilities) can be rolled along
the way, triggering a Riichi / Reach Scenario, which contributes to the probability of scoring a
Jackpot. The baseline probability of rolling a Jackpot begins at about 1/239, and the chance of
increasing the probability with each roll is about 75%.
3. The possible Visual Effect Indicators which can be rolled are as follows, with letters listed in
increasing order of chance to roll. The caster chooses which effect they want, but its success is
still chance-based.
a. Reserve Ball / Collected Ball - Green, Red, Gold
b. Door / Shutter - Green, Red, Gold
c. Consecutive Effect / Pseudo-Spin - x1, x2, x3
d. Rainbow-colored Indicators or 4 consecutive Effects ensure a Jackpot
4. If the caster generates an Effect 1+ times, they can physically attack with doors/balls, and if they
roll 2 of the same number they advance to a Riichi Scenario.330 The better the Visual Effect
Indicators, the less likely the Scenario is to fail. Scenarios transport the caster and the target to a
'stage', which is a location in the manga. If the target can defeat the caster before a specific
event happens from the manga on the stage, the Scenario will fail, returning to the start.
5. Riichii / Reach Scenarios are as follows, listed in increasing chance (or 'hype') order. Even if the
caster rolls a riichi that has a low hype level, it is still possible to hit a Jackpot if the caster gets
their chance up.
a. Transit Card Riichi - If Yuki passes through the train gate and arrives at work on time,
Hakari hits the Jackpot.
b. Seat Struggle Riichi or Potty Emergency Riichi (equal chance). If Hiro reaches
Shinyurigaoka without an accident, it results in a Jackpot-rich Scenario.
c. Friday Night Final Train Riichi - (80%+ chance for successfully hitting a Jackpot). If
Yume doesn't get on the train after it departs and reappears, the caster will hit the
Jackpot.
6. Chance Boosters can randomly occur during Riichi Scenarios and increase the chances of
Jackpot even in unfavorable riichi scenarios. Boosters are as follows:
a. Yume Background - When advancing to a scenario, a tantalizing image of Yume Asagiri
appears.
b. Amanogawa Cut Scene - Amanogawa Senpai helps during scenario presentations.

c. Group Indicators - A Jackpot is certain but not in the Pure Love Train.

Other Mechanics
1. Post-Jackpot Effects: When Jackpot runs out, the caster can enter one of two modes.
a. Increased Probability / Probability Change Mode - 確変 kakuhen: Rolling an odd
number increases the chance for the next Jackpot, allowing the caster to eventually
score a predetermined Jackpot.
b. Faster Spins / Time Reduction Mode - 時短 Jitan: Rolling an even number will increase
the speed at which the caster can roll. The faster the spins, the greater the decrease in
the number of chances remaining to hit a Jackpot (70 or 30 rolls). If the caster rolls an
unexpected Jackpot during Faster Spins Mode, it ensures they have increased
probability.331
i. Hidden Probability - 潜伏確変 Senpuku Kakuhen332 - The caster secretly has the
+75% chance of increased probability to roll a Jackpot in Faster Spins mode
even though they did not enter Increased Probability Mode. Therefore,
Probability and Speed Modes can be simultaneously active.
2. Consecutive Effect / Pseudo-Spin Redo: The caster can reroll a Consecutive Effect sequence,
which can be beneficial if they draw a dud Effect at first. The probability of hitting the Jackpot is
over 20% on the first activation, so it is an Effect with high chances. This makes the risk of
drawing a dud during Normal Mode increases, so it is more beneficial to use it during Increased
Probability windows.333 "In terms of the game the number looks like it's stopped rolling but it's
actually still going, but in terms of combat it means Hakari can negate an instance of damage"
as we see him do twice versus Kashimo.334

Translation Note: Idle Death Gamble / Restless Gambler

"The 'restless' and 'idle death' translations are from the same root, I think - they're just creative
interpretations of the same idea…the Chinese idiom is 田父可坐杀, which is the idea that someone who
works hard all day (a farmer) will die if they have leisure time (sit down), since they're so used to their
schedule that being idle a shock to them. I believe it's paralleling the conversation about boredom vs.
despair that Hakari and Charles had earlier.
So Viz's translation is quite literal - and probably a smarter choice since we don't really know how the
Domain will interpret it. 'Restless' is a more fun translation since it's somewhat literal (literally no
rest) but also picks up some of the meaning about how someone who works hard needs to keep
working hard."335

Mudra: Idle Death Gamble

Hakari's mudra is associated with Benzaiten / Saraswati.
"Benzaiten as one of the seven lucky gods (七福神 /
shichifukujin) is worshipped for monetary fortune. She is
often depicted playing biwa as goddess of music. Saraswati
is also regarded as goddess of river, hence she becomes
known as goddess of “all things flow”; water, time, music,
eloquence, fortune, and knowledge. Another version of
Benzaiten depicted her as a protector deity having eight
hands holding weapons; a bow (弓 / yumi), arrow (箭 / sen),
sword (刀 / katana), ax (斧 / ono), spear (三股戟 / sankogeki), long pestle (独鈷杵 / tokkosho), iron
wheel (輪 / rin), and rope (羂索 / kenjaku)."336

Projection - 投射呪法 Tōsha Juhō

Naobito Zenin, Naoya Zenin
The caster divides up 1 second into 24 frames, as in film photography. They then
choose a predetermined movement path for their target which the target must then follow. If
the target breaks from this predicted path, they will become frozen for 1 second. The
movement path cannot be adjusted once it has been chosen. If the caster chooses an infeasible
movement path that violates the laws of physics, they also will become frozen.
In order to activate this Technique, the caster must touch the target with their palm and
the target must remain in their line of sight.
The caster can use Projection to mark out their own path using 24fps, which
functionally causes them to move at very high speeds. Naobito is stated to be the fastest
character in the manga excluding Gojo.

Time Cell Moon Palace - 時胞月宮殿 Jihō Gekkyuden

Translation Note: Time Cell Moon Palace

"時 (toki, ji) means "time" - most likely referring to his technique which related to speed and time, 胞

someone else's. The effect is ignited when the user speaks the name of a dead person, whose
information then overwrites the pill consumer's body, transforming them into the deceased
person's form.348 The caster can command the summoned entity's actions. It is dangerous to
summon the soul's information because it risks giving the deceased person's soul control over
the pill consumer, so Ogami only summons the body's information.349

Gavel
The gavel is the caster's basic attack. Its size and shape can be lengthened or enlarged at will,
and the caster can teleport it between their hands at will.

Deadly Sentencing
DE
Deadly Sentencing engages the caster and the target in a trial, in which the shikigami
Judgeman operates off of Japanese law to judge the target. It is possible that Judgeman
functions using the caster's understanding of the law, and not the objective law itself, but this
is unclear. This DE is similar to ancient DEs, in which there is no fatal guaranteed hit Technique,
but the Domain operates off of specific Bindings instead.
Once the participants have been locked into the trial, they are prohibited from using any
physical violence. Judgeman, the trial's judge and arbiter, possesses complete knowledge
about all entities within the Domain. First, it states the crime of the defendant from when they
have broken a specific law in their past. The caster is then given an envelope submitted by
Judgeman containing evidence supporting the accusation of the defendant's crime. The
envelope does not contain conclusive evidence, rather, the verdict is determined based on the
defendant and the prosecutor's presentation of their respective arguments. The caster knows
the envelope's contents, but the defendant does not.
The defendant must state their case, dispel all doubt, and earn a pronouncement of
innocence from Judgeman. Otherwise, Judgeman will pronounce a sentence of Confiscation on
the defendant. The defendant may either remain silent, confess their crime, or deny their crime.
Lying is permitted.
The consequences for the prosecutor when the defendant is pronounced innocent are
currently unknown.

Confiscation
Judgeman pronounces a guilty verdict and sentences the target with either Cursed Technique
deprival, or execution.
The default Confiscation temporarily deprives the defendant of the ability to wield
their Innate Technique. If the defendant has no Innate Tech, their Cursed Energy is confiscated
instead. The conditions for reversing Confiscation seem to be either to incapacitate the caster,
dispel the caster's shikigami, or to have the caster voluntarily dispel the effect. Preventing the
use of an Innate Tech also tends to weaken a sorcerer's foundational CE control.
Once a target is subject to the effects of Confiscation, they must either defeat the caster,
or demand a Retrial, which will engage the participants in another trial with a new accusation.
If the defendant loses the retrial, they are subject to Confiscation: Death Penalty, which
summons the Executioner's Sword.

Executioner's Sword
Anyone cut by this sword will die. The sword is only summoned by Judgeman once it has
pronounced Confiscation: Death Penalty upon a target.

 Utahime Iori
This Technique temporarily amplifies the Cursed Energy reserves and output of the caster and
other chosen entities in their Technique's effective range. Although subtraction can be used,

Straw Doll Technique - 芻霊呪法 Sūrei Juhō

Kugisaki Nobara, Nobara's grandmother
The user relies on a hammer, nails, and a humanoid straw doll effigy to attack with CE-infused
nails, using the target's essence--such as a body part or a fragment of an object--to offensively
channel their own CE into the target remotely.

Resonance - 共鳴り Tomonari

 Ext
Resonance applies CE to a specific body part using an human effigy, causing damage to the
targeted area. Its range is broad and its effectiveness depends on the difference between the
user's and target's skill level and the value of the targeted part. An arm, for example, is a more
valued part than a fingernail or hair. Resonance depends on the strength of the connection to
the opponent.356 It can also be used on inanimate objects, e.g. straw from Momo's broom.357
The basic requirement for the effigy is that it be humanoid; therefore the user can use
their own body in place of a straw effigy, e.g. Nobara attacking Eso and Kechizu through their
blood, which had infected her own blood, by stabbing her own arm.358

Hairpin - 簪 Kanzashi
 Ext
The user causes a CE explosion emanating from a nail they have embedded into a target by
rapidly expanding the CE already infused within the nail. Hairpin behaves similarly to a sticky
grenade.

Talons (?)
The user's fingers are lengthy, durable talons. It is unclear whether their hands can actively
transform into talons or if they always remain transformed.

Ten Shadows - 十種影法術 Tokusa no Kage Bōjutsu

 (10S)
Zenin Clan, Fushiguro Megumi
Using shadows as an intermediary rather than a Talisman, this Tech can summon and
command ten specific Shikigami once they have been tamed. 359 Once a Shikigami has been
destroyed, it remains permanently indisposed, but its traits can be inherited by other tamed
Shikigami. The user can use 10S to store objects including their own body within the shadows.
In order to gain command over one of the ten Shikigami, the caster must tame it. The
qualifications for taming are currently unknown but may simply include defeating it in battle.
A caster's Shikigami that have been killed in battle may be combined with other
Shikigami to create a hybrid, enhancing their abilities. This is known as Totality 渾 Kon.
The caster can intentionally keep the form of the Shikigami unstable, thereby increasing
the effective range of the Shiki and preventing their complete destruction when under attack.
The expense of this tradeoff is that Shiki cannot act independently, of their own volition, and
their attack power plummets.360
10S has been passed down hereditarily and exclusively within the Zenin Clan.

Divine Dogs - 玉犬 Gyokuken

 or "Demon Dogs"
The caster begins with a Black and a White Divine Dog, which are large and wolf-like,
and possess a powerful sense of smell. 10S users are born with these beasts already tamed
by default.

Divine Dog: Totality - 玉犬「渾」Gyokuken・Kon

This is a combination of both Divine Dogs which can be formed when one of the shikigami
are destroyed. The remaining Cursed Technique and power the shikigami leaves behind when
destroyed are inherited by the other shikigami, resulting in a merge. Unlike The Well’s
Unknown Abyss, this is not an Extension, but a feature of the 10S Technique.361

Nue - 鵺 Nue
Nue summons a large, winged, masked creature which can generate a field of electricity
around its body with which to attack foes by body slamming them. It is strong enough to carry
a person in its claws in flight.

Note: In Chapter 213 it appears that Sukuna may have combined Orochi and Nue. When
combined with Orochi, Nue becomes colossal in size, larger than a skyscraper with a similarly
vast electrical attack. It is unclear whether Sukuna's use of Ten Shadows is simply more
proficient than Megumi's, or if Megumi can also summon such an enormous Nue-Orochi.362

Lore: Nue
Nue originates in a yokai/ghost from Japanese legend, and is said to be a combination of a monkey, a
tiger, and several other animals. Nue appears in The Tale of Heike, which is quoted and alluded to in
JJK on several occasions.

Eight-Handled Sword Divergent Sila Divine General Makora - 八握剣異戒神

将魔虚羅 Yatsuka-no-Tsurugi Ikaishinshō Makora
or "Mahoraga"
This humanoid shikigami carries the Sword of Extermination 退魔の剣 Taima no
Tsurugi, which is composed entirely of Positive CE, and has a wheel on its head which rotates
as it learns new information. It gradually becomes stronger as it uniquely adapts to and learns
from battles, analyzing more data every time it takes a hit.368 It is powerful, durable, and
difficult to kill, and until Sukuna took over Megumi's body, had never been tamed by a 10S
user. To summon Makora in battle was viewed as a last-ditch, suicidal endeavor.

Makora's Wheel
A 10S user who has tamed Makora can equip its wheel, which hovers over their head and can
adapt the caster to Techniques the same way it does with Makora. Using other Techniques
while the wheel is active blackens its appearance, indicating its adapting function is
interrupted.369 Techniques in the caster's possession can gradually evolve to overcome an

Lore: Mahoraga / Makora

Makora is one of the Twelve Divine Generals from Buddhist lore, and protects the Buddha of healing.
The incantation Megumi uses to summon Makora references the Ten Sacred Treasures, another
concept from Japanese lore. Makora's eight-handled sword is also one of the Ten Treasures, and the
insignias on his shikigami appear to match the symbols of the Treasures. Some fans have theorized
based on Ten Treasures lore that one of the 10S summons is able to grant new life to the dead.

Mudra: Chimera Shadow Garden

Megumi's mudra is associated with Kannon / Avalokiteśvara / Guanyin,
bodhisattva of compassion. "...this Buddha will bring 10 kind of "victories" to
the world, one of which is immunity to the Gu poison. And we know that
Culling game is basically the Gu ritual."375

Note: There is some disagreement over Megumi's mudra. In the three panels featuring his mudra (Ch.
170 - 171), only one thumb appears to be visible, so I chose to promote Option 1 (Kannon) here
instead of Option 2 (Yakushi Nyorai). View Option 2 in the footnotes.376

Kamutoke - 神武解

Translation Note: Kamutoke

"神武解 (Kamutoke). Literally translated, this would be something like 'Divine Martial
Release.' Likely a play on words with 神解け, which has the same pronunciation and means
'lightning.' Note that 解 is also the kanji used for Sukuna's 'Dismantle,' but it's pronounced
differently here. It can also refer to 'solving' or 'lifting' (i.e. of a curse)."378

FAQ - Techniques, Curses, & Cursed Objects

Q: How does Gojo fly and teleport?

Q: What's the difference between Hana's Extinguish, Inverted Spear of

Heaven, and Black Rope?

Translation Note: Extinguish, ISOH, and Black Rope

The difference between ISOH and Black Rope kanji for 'cancel' is that ISOH's 強制解除383, translated
as "nullifies CTs" means 'forcefully nullifies', similar to when you 'undo a knot' or 'release', 'forced
release-age', whereas Black Rope is 'mutual destruction'."384 Black Rope "disrupts and cancels Cursed
Technique effects" 乱し相殺する385 and the kanji can mean 'disturb/cause disarray',
'offset/counterbalance', 'cancel out', or 'counter'. Hana's Extinguish 消滅 can mean 'extinguish',
'destroy', 'terminate', or 'eliminate'.

Q: How did Yuji survive in Jogo's Domain Expansion?

In the Fanbook, Gege stated it could be one of three things:

"Because Jogo is extremely strong, an ordinary sorcerer will be completely burned when they
enter the DE area, which is a debuff effect. The reason why Itadori was fine was because, 1)
thanks to Sukuna, 2) Thanks to Gojo, 3) Itadori is not an ordinary person. You choose the one
you prefer." 386

Q: What is Yuta Okkotsu's Technique?

His Technique is explicitly stated three times in the manga to be Copy. Once by the narrator in
Ch. 178, who states that his Cursed Technique use is possible only while he's connected to
Rika through the ring, once by Uro Takaka in Ch. 178 ("Okkotsu isn't just a Cursed Speech user
with Shikigami Jutsu! Okkotsu's Cursed Technique is Copy!"), and again by Ryu Ishigori in Ch.
180 ("I thought [Rika] had a Cursed Technique of its own! But I was wrong! Okkotsu's Cursed
Technique is Copy!").
