GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR BAND SHOWDOWN COMPETITION

DECEMBER 13, 2024

1. Band Showdown Competition is on December 13, 2024. Assembly area is at New


Municipal Building Grounds at 3:00pm. Band Showdown Competition will start at 4:00pm.

2. The contest is invitational to all public and private elementary and secondary schools in
the municipality.

3. Band members must be bonafide students of the school they are representing and must
be certified by the School Head. Submission of the names of band members with
certification is on November 18-22, 2024 at the Municipal Tourism Office.

4. The composition of the band to include instrumentalists/musical players,


major/majorettes, and flag bearers/movers.
 for Elementary Category MINIMUM OF THIRTY (30) AND A MAXIMUM OF FIFTY (50)
band members
 for Highschool Category: MINIMUM OF FORTY (40) AND A MAXIMUM OF SIXTY (60)
band members

5. Mechanical instruments, electronics or motor engines are not allowed. Only batons, flags
and other props such as banners, pompoms, etc will be used.

6. The use of live animals is strictly prohibited .The use of flammable materials such as
fireworks and pyrotechnic as part of the presentation is strictly prohibited. A five (5)
points deduction shall likewise be imposed.

7. No deduction shall be made for the dropping of the baton.

8. Judging and time count shall commence from the start of the first beat excluding entry to
the performance area. The performance time is minimum of seven (7) minutes and
maximum of ten ( 10 ) minutes. Two (2)points will be deducted from the total points for
every minute in excess.

9. All members shall do the drill or formation and not the major/majorettes alone.

10. A Five (5) minutes allowance shall be given to the band in preparation for their
performance.

11. The organizing committee assigns time keepers with Flag-lets with corresponding
colors to signal the following:
 Green Flag -------------- start time
 Red Flag -------------- stop time
12. Time stops as the last sound of the beat stops. The EMCEE shall immediately announce
the time consumed.
13. The ranking system should be used in determining the winner and the decision of the
board of judges is final and irrevocable.

Judging Criteria:

MUSIC – 50%
-Orchestration: Rhythm, Tempo & Ensemble 25%
-Tone/Pitch/Balance & Dynamics 25%

PERFORMANCE – 40%
-Choreography: Creativity and artistry of movements 20%
-Synchronization, Precision and Execution of movements 20%

COSTUME – 10%
-Design & Appropriateness 10%

TOTAL: 100%

Best Band Majorette:


The Search for the Best Band Majorette is not a beauty pageant. It is simply a search
for the Lead dancer who possesses the exceptional qualities, both in physical beauty and
dancing skills, among her peers. That makes her them the first among equals. What the
search will highlight will be the Lead Dancer’s performance skill and her ability to interpret
the dance with rhythm and grace and all other accompanying artistic considerations.

Qualifications:
1. The candidates must be the Lead Dancer of the contingent and must participate in
the final showdown. A certification from the School Head will be submitted as
proof that she is the Lead Dancer of the Band.

Best in Band Costume:

1. Costumes should be relevant in its design and appropriateness befitting decency


in accordance with generally accepted band costume.

BEST IN BAND COSTUME - P10,000.00

BEST BAND MAJORETTE (Elementary) - P3,000.00

1ST PRIZE WITH CERTIFICATE - P30,000.00

2ND PRIZE WITH CERTIFICATE - P20,000.00

3RD PRIZE WITH CERTIFICATE - P15,000.00

CONSOLATION PRIZE with CERTIFICATE - P5,000.00

BEST IN BAND COSTUME - P10,000.00
