Course Description This course is aimed at introducing students to the basics of
computer skills, by discussing basic components of computer
hardware and software. Students will be introduced to concepts
and terminologies of computer systems, some application
programs etc. In addition to this, this course will make students to
be familiar with basics of internet and its applications.
Course Objective At the end of this course student will be able to
 Discuss computer as a system
 Understand the basic function of hardware components (input,
output, storage, and processing units)
 Understand the important factors/elements to be considered in
buying computers for office/ home use.
 Identify the different types of computers and their application
in industry
 Be able to understand and use Microsoft Suite program (MS-
word, MS-excel, MS-power point, and MS-access)

The success of this course depends on the students‟ individual
Roles of and collective contribution to the class discussions. Students are
the expected to participate voluntarily, or will be called upon, to
students contribute to set exercises and problems. Students are also
expected to read the assigned readings and prepare the cases
before each class so that they could contribute effectively to
class discussions. Students must attempt assignments by their
own. Proficiency in this course comes from individual
knowledge and understanding. Copying the works of others is
considered as serious offence and leads to disciplinary actions.
