Chapter 2: The Myth of “Motivation”

Alright, let’s talk about the thing everyone thinks they need
to get started.

Motivation.

You know, that magical feeling that’s supposed to show up

out of nowhere and make you suddenly want to clean your
kitchen, do your taxes, and reply to that email from 3 weeks
ago?

Yeah… that feeling? Total myth.

Motivation is flaky. It’s that friend who says “for sure, I’m
coming,” and then ghosts you because they found a snack
and forgot what day it was.

Here’s the truth no one tells you:

You don’t need to feel like doing the thing to do the thing.
Read that again.

You don’t need to feel inspired. Or productive. Or “ready.”

You just need to start. That’s it.

Enter: The 5-Minute Rule.

Next time your brain’s like, “Ugh, not now,” just say this:
“I’ll do it for 5 minutes.”

Set a timer. Open the laptop. Put on one sock. Whatever the
thing is—just give it five.

Why?

Because five minutes is low-pressure. Your brain doesn’t

freak out about five minutes. It’s like, “Oh, that’s barely a
thing. We can do that.”

And most of the time, once you start, you keep going.
Because action creates momentum.
But even if you don’t keep going? You still won.
You beat the resistance. You moved. That counts.

Remember: Productivity doesn’t always feel good in the

beginning.
But weirdly, it almost always feels good right after you do it.

So next time you’re stuck?

Forget motivation.

Just do five.
