through learning as people gain knowledge and acquire new skills. This is essential in
order for them to create a good career path in the future as education opens various
working opportunities. Hence, this idea led the students to be eager in complying with
their academic activities, both in written works and performed tasks. This results in
them making academic activities their top priority. And, due to the fact that time
affects the grades and performances of the learners, they often tend to give their all.
However, although some exert so much effort passing them on time, the instances that
students suffer from the impending academic deadlines are too often nowadays,
causing both pressure and stress to the learners.
Time is a priceless source. Time is the single resource that can’t be changed, can’t
be taken back once it is used and is used completely at the appreciation of the
owner. No one can control the moving of time but everyone is able to decide how to
use it. Time management is self-management with an explicitly focus on time in
deciding what to do; on how much time to allocate to the activities; on how activities
can be done more efficiently and on when the time is right for particular activities.
Time management is the art of arranging, organizing, scheduling one’s time for
the purpose of generating more effectiveness work and productivity. Gerald (2002)
defined time management as a set of principles, practices, skills, tools and systems
that work together to help you get more value out of your time with the aim of
improving the quality of your life. Time management is very important and it may
actually affect individual's overall performance and achievements. Students
nowadays always commented that they do not have enough time to complete all the
tasks assigned to them. Argarwal (2008) in his contribution asserts that time
management is usually a personal problem and if one instinctively knows what is the
right then there is no need to worry. Daily life is not actually a gamble and allocating
time to every activity will help. Unlike other things, time lost never comes back.
Throughout the history, there has been great emphasis on the effective and
efficient management of time, which has also been considered the key to success
(Pugh & Nathwani, 2017; Nasrullah & Khan, 2015). It has also been advised to start
practicing time management from the early student life (Valle et al., 2016). Time
management has also been defined as a form of self-management with a clear
emphasis on time in understanding what activities to do; how to do them more
efficiently; in what time it should be done and when is the correct time to the
particular activity (Savino, 2016).
There have been many studies that found association between greater academic
achievement and effective time management as students acquire strategies that
helps them in meeting competing demands (Nadinloyi et al., 2013; Kharadze, Gulua,
& Davit, 2017). Time management skills have indicated a positive effect on student
learning and associated outcomes. A number of studies have identified the positive
impact of time management. Time management skills have been shown to have a
positive impact on student learning and student outcomes indicated that the ability for
successfully managing their time is the benchmark of students in developing better
study habits as well as strategies for success.
Time management can be very useful in a student's hectic schedule and facing
overwhelming deadlines. It ensures that students are well prepared, organized,
focused to manage their daily lives, and complete academic assignments on time.
Time management has also been defined as a form of self-management with a clear
emphasis on time in understanding what activities to do; how to do them more
efficiently; in what time it should be done and when is the correct time to the
particular activity (Savino, 2016). It can lead to improved success, however, this is a
skill that students have to learn and practice. Students must change their habits in
order to have good time management skills. This can only happen if students take
the first steps in identifying their problems. Good time management skills stems from
the issue of prioritizing one's time effectively. This can be done by setting new
personal goals and striving to accomplish them with a new and improved attitude in
mind. Students should learn how to work smart, and not working too hard, and not
retaining anything. Sometimes students need to study for a couple of hours and take
a break to clear their minds. It is a good idea to take breaks when feelings of
frustration come on. Too much information leads to an information overload that the
brain can't deal with at one time. If students are motivated and disciplined, their time
management skills will improve with practice.
