Introduction

As part of our company’s product development project we are working to design, manufacture
and distribute fire hose cabinets of different dimensions for suitable applications in different
buildings and factories. For the time being Even though we don’t have all the necessary
production machineries like bending, shearing and painting machines, skilled manpower for
quality welding and other necessary tools. We are working to start production of samples by
using other workshops. But in the future after reviewing the market for this product we will have
all the necessary tools and manpower. On this proposal I have written the work progress of the
product development steps and its financial feasibility.

General information about the product

Generally Fire hose cabinets are designed with varying materials type, dimensions and
arrangement based on specific requirements. The fire cabinet we have planned to manufacture
and supply is double door horizontal cabinet which is the most commonly used type in Ethiopia.
Our cabinets are to be manufactured using the best quality steel and glass to ensure that they are
able to sustain wear and tear of time and weather. These cabinets can also be surface recessed or
semi-recessed mounted. If the products financial profit is good, we will manufacture all our
cabinets at our workshop by using the best machines and technology. Fire cabinets are usually
made from mild steel with the sheet thickness of 1.0 to 2.0 mm or stainless steel with the sheet
thickness of 1.0 to 1.5 mm. The outer
edge of the hose reel is rolled over for safe handling and aesthetic appearance, The latch
mechanism for these type of cabinets is turn handle type. It has two doors for accessing the fire
extinguisher bottle and 30 meter length swinging fire hose reel. All of its components are listed
as follows:

HOSE & CABINET ACCESSORIES


Pressure Reducing Valve
Pressure Reducing Valve is mainly used in a hose reel system to reduce the pressure at the inlet
of the hose reel to the nominal working pressure. Material: Brass Working Pressure: Inlet
pressure up to 20 bar and outlet pressure between 1 to 4 bar.
Air Release Valve
Air Release Valve is used to manually trigger the water flow in case the flow of water does not
turn on automatically. This valve is used as a backup just in case the water pressure or flow is not
as required due to certain situations. Air release valve is made from brass for durability and
reliability and is tested under the pressure of 350 psi.

Lock Shield Valve


A valve which can be locked to a position by means of a detachable key, with its operating
mechanism shielded in such a way that the valve cannot be operated by general tools and
requires only its own key to unlock the position. Once the key is detached from the valve, the
valve position is locked and shielded for tempering by unauthorized personnel whereby
preventing its accidental operation.
DOOR HINGES

It is available in the market we will buy it from shop.

Fire hose reel

Fire hose reel drum couldn’t be manufactured so importing it will be preferable with all its
accessories.
Work Schedule

Week -1 (17/03/2025-22/03/2025)

Two pieces of Steel sheet metal with a thickness of 1.2mm-1.5mm will be purchased. i.e.
2000x1000x1.2mm

With the prepared design we will cut the sheet metal for the manufacturing of parts. This process
will be done at our workshop.

We will move these parts to another workshop to find bending machines to perfectly bend the
components.

Week 2(24/03/2025-30/03/2025)

After bending the next step will be welding this will be done on the same workshop.

We will paint the cabinet using red powder.

Next we will buy other accessories of the cabinet box like glass, locking rubber gasket and latch
for door, fire hose reel with nozzles, and other hose accessories.

Finally, the fire cabinet will be assembled with fire hose reel and accessories and we will
conduct testing of the tool.
