Experience Module 11: Self-Regulation

Grade Level 11 MCH Lesson Self-Regulation

Week Week 2 KaKaMPI Values Kahusayan

GET STARTED

The benefits of self-regulation helps you avoid tantrums and public outbursts of emotion as
aspiring professionals in the future. They include:
• a calmer temperament, through the brain-body balance
• greater sense of independence, through mastery of emotional reactions, and
• a more solid connection between the feelings and the response to those feelings.
Self-Regulation is defined as the discipline to manage your own behavior, having the
following behavior manifestations:
1. I will do what I'm supposed to do, whether or not I feel like doing it.
2. I recognize and adjust my behavior to do the right thing.
3. I set aside what distracts me from the big picture.
4. I delay gratification for the sake of long-term gains.
Though it seems generally easy to identify what we feel at the moment, many people
actually have a problem doing so, and perhaps we are one of them. To make the
connection between self-regulation and emotional intelligence, we will be using some tools
in this EM.

Critical Thinking Question: What personal practices and strategies can help us be more
in touch with what we feel so that we can respond appropriately to different and
challenging situations?

Share with a classmate your answer to the following question:

Understanding our own emotional states and needs helps us appreciate what
others feel and need too. But before that we must be aware of ourselves first and
that begins by observing oneself. When we are aware of fostering practices that
elevate our Emotional Quotient then we can react more appropriately to a variety
of pleasant and unpleasant stimuli. Balancing our emotions helps us live the life we
want to lead, alone or together with others.
