To configure TCP/IP settings on a Windows 10 computer, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open Network & Internet Settings
1. Right-click on the Network icon in the system tray (bottom-right corner of the screen). 2. Click on Open Network & Internet settings. Step 2: Open Network Adapter Settings 1. In the Network & Internet settings window, click on Change adapter settings (on the right side of the window). Step 3: Access the Properties of the Network Adapter 1. In the Network Connections window, you will see a list of available network adapters (e.g., Ethernet or Wi-Fi). 2. Right-click on the adapter you want to configure (e.g., Wi-Fi or Ethernet). 3. Select Properties from the context menu. Step 4: Select the TCP/IPv4 or TCP/IPv6 Protocol 1. In the Properties window, scroll down and look for Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) in the list. 2. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) for IPv4 settings or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) for IPv6 settings (depending on which you want to configure). Step 5: Configure TCP/IP Settings 1. After selecting Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or TCP/IPv6, click on the Properties button. Step 6: Set the IP Address ● For Automatic IP Address Assignment (DHCP): o Select the option Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically if you want Windows to automatically get an IP address from a router or DHCP server. ● For Manual IP Address Assignment: o Select the option Use the following IP address. o Enter the following information:
▪ IP address: Enter the static IP address you want to assign to
your computer (e.g., 192.168.1.10).
▪ Subnet mask: Enter the subnet mask (usually 255.255.255.0
for home networks).
▪ Default gateway: Enter the IP address of your router (e.g.,
192.168.1.1). ● For DNS Settings: o Under Use the following DNS server addresses, enter the DNS servers you want to use:
▪ For example, Google's DNS servers:
▪ Preferred DNS server: 8.8.8.8
▪ Alternate DNS server: 8.8.4.4
Step 7: Save the Settings
1. Once you’ve configured the desired settings, click OK to save your changes. 2. Close any remaining windows. Step 8: Verify the Settings 1. Open Command Prompt (Press Windows key + R, type cmd, and press Enter). 2. Type the following command and press Enter to confirm your IP configuration: Copy ipconfig You should now see your IP address and other network information. This will complete the configuration of your TCP/IP settings on your Windows 10 system!
