ATARG Do you enjoy mountains and being part of a team? Argyll Cadets Adventurous Training Argyll Adventure is a summer camp based at Garelochhead Training Garelochhead Camp on the west coast of Scotland. The camp is focused on learning and developing the skills of mountain walking and includes a mountain camping expedition in the Arrochar Alps . Other activities include orienteering and team challenges and there are likely to be opportunities to abseil, climb and sail as well as experience a Royal Marine Rigid Raider and Royal Navy Search and Rescue helicopter acquaint. Canoeing, assault course, map reading, orienteering, yacht sailing, scuba diving (taster sessions) and abseiling. Located in Cawsand Bay in beautiful surroundings in Plymouth Sound. Three courses. Two as preparation for Cadet 150 at HMS Raleigh and HMS Bristol (Portsmouth). One course for all comers at BRNC Dartmouth to provide complete school bands or individuals with specialised training on a wide range of musical instruments. A valuable military as well as musical experience at a wonderful location. Opportunity to join in with all the Dartmouth Summer Camp activities. This is a 5 Day Skipper Motor Cruising Course. The Day Skipper covers pilotage, navigation, seamanship and boat handling up to the standard required to skipper a motor cruiser safely by day in tidal waters with which the candidate is familiar. This is a 2 day Helmsman course, Introduces the complete beginner to boat handling & safety within a defined area. Officers canoe course with a view to gain Canoe Instructor Qualif. The course will follow the BCU2* syllabus which includes kayak and open boat (Canadian) paddling. Mainly on flat water, the students will be given an introduction to sea (tidal water), moving water (flat river) and grade 2 white water. The tender has a permanent officer who will advise on the many training opportunities available on the Clyde. Ideal for team building of RN Sections. Opportunity to gain valuable long distance sailing experience on 4 leg yacht sailing and motor cruising on Amaryllis (Sigma 38 Yacht) or power boat Black Swan Practical rock climbing and mountain walking and abseiling. An introduction to the life of a young Officer under training at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth. The aim is to develop self-reliance and basic leadership skills. To include sport and waterborne activities in a variety of boats. The course enjoys the superb facilities at BRNC on the banks of the beautiful River Dart. Theoretical and practical introduction to basic first aid and casualty handling, leading to the award of Red Cross First Aid Certificate (Nationally recognised). Basic introduction to Naval Aviation and Air Operations. There is a possibility of flights in either fixed wing or rotary aircraft. Opportunity to operate a Fox Terrier (22 ft yacht) within the Solent. To gain practical experience towards Coastal Skipper qualifications under controlled conditions by taking responsibility for the operation of a small yacht at sea. Additional opportunities are available for Day Skipper qualified Officers to gain further experience.

2 day introductory course and 5 day intermediate Gliding Course Cadets at Daedalus, Lee on Solent. Accommodation on HMS Bristol. There will be a cost attributed to this course in the range of 50 for the short course and 400 for the long course. We will be attempting to reduce the cost to cadets. Further information will be promulgated. This two day course is designed to familiarise cadets with the Cadets principles involved in the two subjects and to give an outline of how the RN makes best use of these important aspects when operating at sea. The acquaint is based on that given to Junior RN Officers during their training. Theoretical and practical training in electronics, with some Cadets reference to radar and weapons and the applicability of Electronics to the modern Royal Navy. To develop cadets leadership and power of command. Introduction to practical leadership tasks and team training. Each cadet will be given the opportunity to take charge of a squad for drill, conduct a major practical leadership task and participate in team activities such as assault courses, orienteering and sports. The aim is to encourage the development of a cadets leadership potential in a controlled environment while having fun during a weekend. This is a multi-activity camp which is based on HMS BRISTOL. During the camp cadets are able to take part in a number of activities including: yacht sailing; overnight exped on a yacht or power boat; trekking, camping and orienteering in the New Forest; dinghy sailing; and kayaking. The week concludes with a regatta, inter-divisional sports and a disco. A challenging course for fit and strong swimmers (do not expect to use the course to get fit for any of the elements) The course consists of numerous phases all leading to an exam and assessment on the final day. Successful candidates will be awarded the National Pool Life Guard qualification renewable every 2 years and internationally recognised. Course lasts 5 very intensive days. This is a physically demanding course.

Requires physical fitness with good eyesight and hearing. Pre-course requisites are jump or dive into deep water, swim 50m in less than 60 seconds, swim 100m continuous on front or back, tread water for 30 seconds, surface dive to the bottom of the pool and climb out unaided. There is classroom work involved and pre-course reading will be sent to successful applicants. To develop Officers leadership and power of command in preparation for assuming senior positions within CCF (RN). To advance their knowledge of CCF (RN) training and the Royal Navy to the benefit of cadets in their charge. To qualify for the award of RYA National Powerboat Proficiency Scheme Level 2 through the handling of powerboats, maintenance checks and pilotage exercises. Course comprises swimming pool training, theory lessons and dive training in open water, learning various underwater skills resulting in candidates becoming qualified to dive with other divers to a depth not greater than that experienced during training. All activities conducted under the supervision of BSAC nationally qualified Instructors.
Very competent boat handlers may qualify for the Safety Boat Certificate Must be able to swim 50 yards. A medical declaration is required (countersigned by NOK/guardian) and the purchase of a BSAC training pack (workbook, logbook, qualifications book, diving manual, decompression tables and training video) at a cost of approx. 35. To provide basic Naval training for newly entered CCF (RN) Officers, so as to equip them to take their places, with confidence, in a RN Section. To qualify CCF Officers with no experience to RYA level 1/2 and Officers with experience to complete 2 of the following modules: Seamanship, Racing, Spinnaker, Day Sail or Performance Sail providing the appropriate instructor is available. Handling a powerboat including engine maintenance, anchoring, towing, mooring and associated pilotage both practical and theoretical. To familiarise cadets with RN Aircrew training and Squadrons operating from HMS SEAHAWK with their aircraft - Jet Stream, Sea King and Merlin. 'Hands on' opportunities in the Sea King Simulator and possibility of flight on Jet Stream aircraft. Designed principally for CCF members considering a career in the Fleet Air Arm. RYA National Dinghy Sailing Course to qualify cadets with no experience to RYA Level 1/2 and cadets with experience to complete 2 of the following: Seamanship, Racing, Spinnaker, Day Sail or Performance Sailing providing the appropriate instructors are available. To develop practical leadership ability and power of command. Involving assault course, resource and initiative training, parade training and team activities. The aim is to develop leadership potential in a controlled environment. Institute of Leadership and Management Team Leader award (NVQ level 2) may be awarded to candidates who reach the required standard. A broad introduction to the Royal Navy - including ship visits/dockyard tour, fire fighting, practical seamanship, assault course and sea training. An active, lively course combining sports activities. An ideal course for the new intake.

RYA Level 5 - to qualify as RYA Dinghy Sailing Instructors Before a successful candidate can be issued a RYA Certificate, an in date First Aid Certificate approved by the RYA and a RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate must be held.
Basic - A course for complete beginners that teaches you the basics of windsurfing using the right equipment and be able to sail to a chosen point on the water and return to where you started from in light winds. Intermediate (non planing and planing) - Introducing you to the Fastfwd coaching technique, helping to fine tune basic skills and make your windsurfing faster and more fluid. Harness and foot strap techniques combined with the Fastfwd coaching to improve your stance and get the board planing, giving you the exhilaration of speed and improved theory knowledge. Beach starting and gybing will be taught within the course, tailored to an individuals needs.
